<djdv[m]> swedneck: probably this https://github.com/tableflip/ipfs-fuse . If you want a Go version, I can probably allocate time near the end of this month to fixing up the plugin I was writing.

<ipfsbot> LIN WAN SHEN @senlin posted in when the file is cut into several chunks, what command can I use to know which nodes the files are placed on? - https://discuss.ipfs.io/t/when-the-file-is-cut-into-several-chunks-what-command-can-i-use-to-know-which-nodes-the-files-are-placed-on/7390/1
<djdv[m]> If it gives you grief, let me know. I'm thinking of bringing the fuse and 9P branches I have up to date this weekend now. I'd like to see something easy (to set up) exist for this too.
<swedneck> hmm, i also can't install it
<swedneck> i will never understand how on earth npm is supposed to work
<swedneck> at least with python i know i can just virtualenv it when in doubt
<djdv[m]> As a Windows user, I always have issues with JS and Python packages not being ported :^(
misuto has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<swedneck> can always just use WSL i guess?
<djdv[m]> If you're on Linux you can try this branch out https://github.com/djdv/go-ipfs/tree/feat/plugin-filesystem but it's not really stable. Also nice to find out godoc.org isn't updating the documentation despite changes...
<djdv[m]> I'm gonna take the fuse work that was done and try to integrate it into this so you end up mounting via fuse on things like BSD, Windows, etc. and use 9P on platforms that support it. But that's later.
<swedneck> would be lovely to have
<djdv[m]> It all already works, it's just not very well tested. Ancient progresss reports here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrZxGPqQuwHC_cZF2assuM0Vl3D5s5OSN
<djdv[m]> Has worked at some phase or another* (;´∀`)
<swedneck> guess i'll give it a shot then
<swedneck> err, how do i build it?
KempfCreative has joined #ipfs
<djdv[m]> You should be able to just build that branch as you would normally, but you'll have to include the filesystem plugin in the plugin loader, let me see
<swedneck> afaik i've only used `go get`
<djdv[m]> Gotcha, it might be a bit involved. You'd have to add the branch, add the plugin, then build with Go. I could cross compile a binary if you trust it.
<swedneck> if you just list the steps i should be able to do it
<swedneck> then again, why wouldn't i trust your binary of your own branch? :P
<swedneck> not like i'm gonna look through your code anyways
<djdv[m]> Better to document it anyway, but I'm thinking of seperating it from the main repository which will change the steps a bit. Either or.

<djdv[m]> Oh no it looks like fresh installs were broken. I'm assuming this is my bug. Going to make sure this functions with an existing .ipfs dir, but my VM is fighting with me.
<djdv[m]> >$ ipfs init
<djdv[m]> >Error: error initializing plugins: ipfs not initialized, please run 'ipfs init'

<djdv[m]> This should work to build https://pastebin.com/s79y4qBL but it's not showing the `ipfs files` root for some reason, just /ipfs and /ipns. I might have explicitly disabled it even though it sets it up internally. Will mess with this another day and pm you about it when things are a little more graceful.

<zzo38> I try to think of how to use netnews articles with IPFS. Articles never change, although new articles may be added over time (and old articles may be unpinned).
<zzo38> Each article is named by a message ID; also some of the headers are probably not applicable to IPFS so should be omitted to produce the CID, such as "Path", "Xref", "Received", and "X-Received" (some implementations use "X-Received" instead of "Received").
<zzo38> Next thing is to make NNTP server software which is compatible with IPFS.
