<olleolleolle> Hello, I’m investigating the release of Puma 3.12.1, how it works with my JRuby app. load error: puma/java_io_buffer -- java.lang.reflect.InaccessibleObjectException: Unable to make field protected byte[] java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.buf accessible: module java.base does not "opens java.io" to module org.jruby.dist
<olleolleolle> (I’m on jruby-9.2.6.0, oraclejdk9)
<olleolleolle> Teh current JAVA_OPTS='--add-opens java.base/java.util.zip=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.util=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.security.cert=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.security=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.io=ALL-UNNAMED'
<olleolleolle> (Experimenting, trying to —add-opens the org.jruby.dist. Dog at keyboard.)
<olleolleolle> My test suite passed when I had JAVA_OPTS='--add-opens java.base/java.io=org.jruby.dist --add-opens java.base/java.util.zip=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.util=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.security.cert=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.security=ALL-UNNAMED --add-opens java.base/java.io=ALL-UNNAMED'
<kares> olleolleolle: hey, seems this release does not contain the IOBuffer rewrite
<kares> only 3.13 will
<olleolleolle> <3
<olleolleolle> Ty!
<kares> yeah its confusing ;)
<kares> still good jos with the opens - thay still will be needed
<kares> thing they should be in the bash launcher
<kares> if smt misses we should add them ... let me check
<kares> so the security (openssl needs those) aren't there
<kares> oh I think its due that not being part of the jruby.dist module
<kares> its quite tricky - would need to module-ify jossl.jar and than load the ext a "module" way
<kares> (which I am unsure what that would mean)
<olleolleolle> Thanks for shedding some light on this. The clues make sense.

<lopex> enebo: what's up with this discord thing ?
<lopex> I never know where to lurk, gitter, irc or whatever ?
<lopex> or matrix or is it still athing ?
<enebo> lopex: kares and I were playing with matrix irc bridge
<enebo> lopex: if it works matrix can bridge to both irc and gitter but we are just playing with it
<lopex> enebo: there's bridges for irc/discord too
<lopex> though, it becomes a paranoia of a sort
<enebo> lopex: ah yeah but can you bridge to gitter?
<enebo> lopex: personally I am looking for open protocol which can be used by im clients
<lopex> just googled it
<lopex> enebo: lol, let's reinvent xmpp
<lopex> but discord is gaining popularity for some reason now
<enebo> but it cannot be written in go
<enebo> (kids)
<enebo> lopex: thanks I will look into this...it is mostly an individual bridge right
<enebo> lopex: if I can use these site from pidgin it would make me care quite a bit less about using a commercial site (although I lament the end of open standards)
<enebo> shoot I need to eat dinner
<enebo> lopex: or just use xmpp who is providing chat with xmpp any more?
<enebo> lopex: and why not?
<lopex> enebo: why not what ?
<enebo> no one uses xmpp
<lopex> yeah, killed by corps
<enebo> "killed by THE MAN"
<lopex> da big brotha
<enebo> from the corporate motha
<lopex> enebo: but seriously, remember that gtalk suported xmpp for a while ?
<enebo> yes..they said it was not good enough for what they were doing but seemingly nothing changed in the client (that I could see)
<enebo> not gtalk -> hangouts -> piss off
<enebo> s/not/now
<lopex> my jabber server is down for two years now or so, and I';ve been using it for like 10 years
<lopex> and it was the one which supported smtp transport for the longest
<lopex> which was the coolest feature
<lopex> but the situation now is no funny at all
<lopex> enebo: the corp I wark at just introduced teams
<lopex> let's see how it goes
<lopex> the corp skype was a disaster
<lopex> enebo: and I'd really like to have thick client for chats
<lopex> well, not the electron one of course
<lopex> enebo: do you still use hangouts with headius ?
<enebo> Telegram
<enebo> gotta eat...
<lopex> I know, I'm always able to annoy enebo to the point he has to eat...
<lopex> nirvdrum: just scrolled that backlog, ebcdic and other ancient ibm encodings are not going to die soon
<lopex> we are tied to iseries and mainframes so we still have to deal with those
<lopex> I was even able to transcode strings from iseries using as400 jdbc driver extra features like reading iseries members using jcodings
