<gdeverlant> hi guys
<gdeverlant> how is everyone
<gdeverlant> I'm back for asking news about mainline kernel and odroid c1
<gdeverlant> like i said before
<gdeverlant> I just need to use the mainline with c1 for docker purpose
<gdeverlant> headless and the possibility to make networking with external HD
<gdeverlant> i need only those features is it possible at the moment to use the mainline with c1 for those

<steev> gdeverlant: should be able to
<steev> i don't use the c1 with mainline myself, but afaik, networking and usb work on it
<gdeverlant> steev: hey hi buddy
<gdeverlant> how ?
<steev> narmstrong: should i re-send the big endian thing to the list (and maybe CC more lists/people?) there were 0 responses, but i did only send it to the linux-amlogic list
<steev> what do you mean how?
<steev> the same way you would with the vendor kernel, just use the proper config
<narmstrong> steev: yep, and cc the mmc and arm lists
<steev> will do!
<steev> not today, but soon
<steev> gdeverlant: you would start with probably the multi_v6_v7_defconfig and then ensure all the options docker/systemd/whatever your distro uses are enabled
<gdeverlant> that is too far advanced for me
<steev> maybe look into using an armbian build then?
<gdeverlant> here is something
<gdeverlant> there is a version with mainline kernel
<steev> then use it
<gdeverlant> but there are some issues
<gdeverlant> version of kernel is 4.18.y
<steev> if you're gonna use a mainline kernel with an arm device, you're gonna have to get your hands dirty at some point
<steev> and learn how to do things like compile the kernel, and apply patches
<gdeverlant> serial console only
<gdeverlant> no USB hotplugging, power the board with USB device is needed
<gdeverlant> no DVFS, fixed CPU frequency
<gdeverlant> reboot doesn’t bring up the board, you need to power cycle.
<gdeverlant> eMMC not supported
<gdeverlant> these are the issues
<steev> yes, i know, i looked at the page
<gdeverlant> how can I easily
<steev> if you do not want to put in the work yourself... you're just gonna have to wait for someone to do it
<gdeverlant> override the kernel with the latest version
<steev> i already told you how, you said it is too far advanced
<gdeverlant> well I have 10 odroid c2 boards and 2 odroid c1 boards
<steev> weird flex, but okay
<gdeverlant> what do you mean by weird flex
<steev> you could try finding someone in the community and offering them a bit of money to do the work you want done
<gdeverlant> what does it mean
<steev> it means that the amount of hardware you have means nothing towards the conversation
<gdeverlant> oh sorry it was for use purpose
<gdeverlant> these are the devices im trying to update
<steev> i'm not trying to be rude or mean, but if you don't have the skills to build a kernel, then you need to find someone who does and offer them something in exchange for their time to do it
<gdeverlant> :D I understand thanx for not being rude
<gdeverlant> I did build once the kernel
<gdeverlant> I've heard also that I can compile in parallel on multiple boards
<gdeverlant> but the thing I don't get is how do I do it for odroid c1 specifically
<gdeverlant> do I do it inside of qemu or on the boards
<gdeverlant> to ease my work I thought I can just grab the armbian mainline distro
<gdeverlant> flash a sdcard and then
<gdeverlant> run it and copy and past the latest mainline kernel
<gdeverlant> and replace the Zimage and dtb files
<gdeverlant> I might be on the good path with that tought
<gdeverlant> the thing is I don't know where to find the latest files compiled
<gdeverlant> ready to be extracted
<steev> maybe as in the armbian forums or irc channel (if they have an irc channel)
<steev> ask in*
<gdeverlant> do you know how to make all those things ?
<gdeverlant> did you learn them ?
<steev> i did, but that's because my first foray into linux was back when there were a lot of things that didn't work, so the first thing i had to do after installing debian on my machine was recompile the kernel to support my ethernet
<steev> it's not difficult to learn it at all, if you can read, you've got a leg up on a lot of people
