<chewitt> jbrunet: I'm not really able to bisect the aiu issue, but I was able to go backwards to 5.8-rc6 and saw this in dmesg https://pastebin.com/raw/8ud9hp3N
<chewitt> I'm now working backwards with LePotato .. I see the same ^ error on 5.8.0

<chewitt> first paste above is from a GXM device (WeTek Core2)
<chewitt> in both cases there are no patches applied to the kernel, i.e. none of my usual patchset

<asdf28> has anyone had any luck getting the proprietary mali driver and blob to work on an S905 box and a mainline kernel?
<narmstrong> asdf28: yes, but you should use Lima instead now since it's usable now
<asdf28> thanks, i have tried it and i like it
<asdf28> the problem is, it makes the system crash from time to time
<asdf28> and i can't get opengl 3d to work with it, it glitches out
<asdf28> the mali driver doesn't crash but it's extremely slow for some reason
<narmstrong> this is unfortunate
<asdf28> the 2d stuff works great at least
<asdf28> i'm just asking if anyone got it to work i'd be interested, just to see how it might perform in comparison
<asdf28> i have tried compiling the old mali driver from the 3.14 kernel for a recent kernel, but it's extremely difficult because there is so much platform specific code wired into it
<asdf28> narmstrong if you got mali to work, what was the driver and blob variant that you uses if i may ask?
<asdf28> used*
<narmstrong> For the blob, the X11 works very badly, fbdev with a specific kernel config but gbm works fine

<asdf28> thanks!
<asdf28> wow, that's a lot of blobs
<asdf28> do you know which one of these supports gbm? it doesn't say in the file name as far as i can see
<asdf28> i had no luck getting a fbdev blob to work so far
<asdf28> they all crashed with a message EGL_BAD_ALLOC
<asdf28> x11 worked but as you said, very slowly
<asdf28> wayland i have not tried yet, maybe it is worth a shot
<asdf28> may i ask what was the kernel config option that you used to get fbdev to work?

<narmstrong> asdf28: fbdev needs special tweaks in sdl2 to work because the fbdev gl extension is non standard
<narmstrong> CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_LEAK_PHYS_SMEM will make it work
<asdf28> oh
<asdf28> thanks, noted
<asdf28> AddressSanitizer: heap-use-after-free on address 0xffff98403e98 at pc 0x00000091dc64 bp 0xffff98dfdee0 sp 0xffff98dfdef8
<asdf28> this is one message i got using fbdev
<asdf28> i will now recompile my kernel with that option

<narmstrong> asdf28: you’ll also need the drm_leak_fbdev_smem drm module param
<narmstrong> And set fbdev overalloc to 300
<asdf28> thanks
<asdf28> how do you set this module parameter? i found a forum post that adds "drm_leak_fbdev_smem=1" to the kernel command line
<asdf28> but on kernel.org it says "via the kernel command line with a module name prefix" such as "usbcore.blinkenlights=1"
<asdf28> so "drm_fb_helper.drm_leak_fbdev_smem=1" ?
<asdf28> never mind, i found it
CyberManifest has joined #linux-amlogic
<asdf28> drm_kms_helper.drm_fbdev_overalloc=100 drm_kms_helper.drm_leak_fbdev_smem=1
<asdf28> it did not solve the crash but i'll try another fbdev blob
<asdf28> what's interesting is that setting the overalloc to 300 gives me a black screen
<asdf28> 200 works

<asdf28> anyway, thanks a lot for your help so far, i appreciate it
<asdf28> i'll test the same driver and blob on another board tomorrow
