LiquidAcid: your 257px patch indeed fixed my x2 hdmi problem - with it get a proper 1280x1024 signal for my monitor - thx a lot!
<hexdump>
is audio supposed to work out of the box on the x2 on mainline? i checked and i have set all the options you combined in your x2/u3 option, but don't get anything in /proc/asound/cards - are there other changes in the tree to make audio work, maybe in your dtb changes?
<mszyprow>
hexdump: audio works on x2/u3 with mainline out of the box
<mszyprow>
hexdump: I just test it with "aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/*.wav"

strange - for me there is no audio device - which kernel version and config is this on your end? (4.12.8 and exynos_defconfig with some docker required options)

<mszyprow>
hexdump: vanilla v4.12 with exynos_defconfig
<mszyprow>
hexdump: just tested to be sure, odroid u3
<tjakobi>
and because i always tend to forget what options need to be enabled
<hexdump>
tjakobi: yes i saw your config option and had all thos in - mainline from exynos_defconfig really works - rebuilding my config now with sound no longer as modules, lets see if this changes things ... one other thing was different in my config too: i had usb-audio enabled as well
<tjakobi>
would be interesting to know if it's related to build-in vs. module. i think i have never used the internal codec as module
<tjakobi>
hexdump, i just sent the 275px hack to the ml. if you want, make some noise and voice your interest. might improve the chance for this to hit upstream

it looks like the reason for the missing alsa devices was the sound being compiled as modulues - i have now reverted all the module compile from m to y and now i have working sound with my config too
<hexdump>
anoher sound question: still the sound does not work on the snow chromebook (5250) - /proc/asounc/cards looks good, alsamixer and all works, but i can't get sound ... the hardware seems to be the same as on the x2: max98090 codec, but looking into the dts files the sound stuff there looks completely different
<hexdump>
would it be possible to rewrite the sound part of exynos5250-snow-*.dts* in a way like exynos-odroid*.dts*? i tried to have a look at it, but i do not really understand enough of how all this dtb stuff works

<hexdump>
in last line i ment exynos4412-odroid*.dts*
<hexdump>
one other thing i notice with mainline (4.12.8) on the x2 is that reboot does not work - but i think i saw patches for that in tjakobi's tree - will have a look at this in the next days
<hexdump>
and will respond to the list tomorrow regarding the 257px patch
<hexdump>
another nice side-effect of the 257px patch is that i can now properly connect the monitor to the hdmi port of the snow chromebook and it works perfectly and i can set everything fine with xrandr
<hexdump>
i.e. external monitor work and extending the desktop to it as well
<hexdump>
btw. i can really recommend those snow chomebooks (xe303c12), they are light (just about 1kg), quite cheap nowadays, everything works with a slef compiled chromeos kernel (3.8) and a lot works with mainline (no audio and no suspend at least) and its still quite snappy with its dated 1.7ghz dual-core
<hexdump>
battery still lasts around 4-6 hours even on a used device - quite impressive keeping in mind that they are a few years ald now already
<Wizzup>
hexdump: for sound on snow you need toggle certain switches
<Wizzup>
but it will in the end still not work, because the sound runs too fast and is unstable
<Wizzup>
suspend used to work fine in mainline
<Wizzup>
audio never worked well on mainline, battery life can be up to 11 hours
<Wizzup>
for example this is the only way to get 44.1Khz audio to play somewhat decently on snow/peach-pi: mpv --audio-pitch-correction=no --speed=0.91 foo.wav
<Wizzup>
for 48000 you want 0.75 speed...
<Wizzup>
and this of course doesn't work outside of mpv
<Wizzup>
There's something wrong with the PLLs I think
<Wizzup>
<-- been using peach pi as main work machine ever since I got it ... like two years ago?
<Wizzup>
another thing that I'd like to fix is the brightness sensitivity. on chromeos kernel it was much more sensitive/nicer, in mainline it's very coarse
<Wizzup>
but everything else works great
<hexdump>
Wizzup: do you remember which switches one needs to toggle to get sound working at all? so far everything looks good, but ido not get any sound out of the speakers - ucm stuff should be correct and alsamixer setting as proper too i think
<Wizzup>
Left Speaker Mixer Left DAC?
<Wizzup>
those kinds of things
<Wizzup>
Left Speaker Mixer Right DAC
<Wizzup>
same for Right Speaker
<Wizzup>
I'm going to sleep.
<hexdump>
this i all have, but still no sound at all
