<alyssa> Lack of audio on rk3399 mainline makes Panfrost way less fun ;P

<anarsoul> alyssa: is anyone working on audio for rk3399?
<alyssa> anarsoul: Not sure
<alyssa> I've got my hands full with graphics myself :P
<alyssa> Desktop GL isn't going to implement itself! :P
<anarsoul> can midgard do desktop GL?
<alyssa> anarsoul: That's tbd

<beeble> but i2s is working on rk3399 mainline?
<alyssa> Is it?
<beeble> at least i have it enabled and can hear sound :)
<alyssa> beeble: Oh, huh, neat!
<alyssa> beeble: (What does i2s correspond to, physically, on a RK3399 Chromebook? Headphone jack mayhaps?)
<alyssa> Sorry if that's a silly question, I do graphics (and am correspondingly, well, you know how graphics folks are ;P)
<beeble> i2s is the connection to the audio codec. so i would guess everything. but as i'm not owning a chromebook i don't know the routing
<alyssa> Alright
<alyssa> Thank you :)
<beeble> looking at the gru dtsi i see a codec defined
<beeble> might be that you need to enable a few extra kernel options to grt it working
<alyssa> mm

<tomeu> mmind00: heh, I'm right now waiting for the build to finish to test the nanopc series :)
<tomeu> will give news in a short bit
<mmind00> tomeu: hehe, great ... I've only applied the first one anyway, the others need one more spin :-)
<tomeu> yeah, I won't be able to properly test the others

<DuClare> Aha
<DuClare> Disabling usb autosuspend appears to make one of the usb ports work
<DuClare> So this is dwc2@ff540000
<DuClare> Which is wired to a microchip usb2512 hub
<DuClare> Hub shows up on the bus ok no matter what the config
<DuClare> However if autosuspend is enabled (default), plugging a device into the port at usb2512 starts throwing up read errors and "usb1-port1: cannot enable. maybe the usb cable is bad?"
<DuClare> I also tried a whole bunch of different kernels & dtbs, mainly armbian builds with rk3288 evb & firefly dtbs, some of these would start resetting the hub in an infinite loop
<DuClare> Each time adding a new device after reset
<DuClare> Of course I've no idea what would cause that or why disabling autosuspend would fix it :)
matthias_bgg has joined #linux-rockchip
<mmind00> DuClare: dwc2 is simply a strange beast ... there were patches flying around trying to fix some quirks, but I don't know right now what became of them
<mmind00> tomeu: not sure about that Tested-by ... together with your Signed-off-by that might get confusing ;-)
<tomeu> yeah, don't know
<mmind00> tomeu: I guess I'll keep the applied patch as it is ... it's now in the mail archives that the author (you) was fine with it :-D
<tomeu> well, I was technically fine with the version I sent :)
<tomeu> but yeah, I don't really mind
<mmind00> I didn't see any complaints which equals fine for me ;-)

<DuClare> mmind00: This perhaps? https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/cover/742888/
<DuClare> Appears to be silently dropped..
<DuClare> I tried this patch, it results in the same behavior as with armbian, i.e. device constantly resetting and then showing up with a new number
<DuClare> So I guess they incorporated that patch
<mmind00> DuClare: alternativly you could check if there already exist a flag to tell it to not use autosuspend at all
<DuClare> "it" == dwc2?
<mmind00> DuClare: yep
<DuClare> rg autosuspend drivers/usb/dwc2 turns up nothing
<mmind00> DuClare: another place where you could look for dwc2 improvements is of course the rk3288-veyron chromeos kernel: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/q/project:chromiumos/third_party/kernel+branch:chromeos-3.14+dwc2
<mmind00> DuClare: and it seems dwc3 has a devicetree flag to disable suspending the phy: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/tree/Documentation/devicetree/bindings/usb/dwc3.txt#n63 .. not sure if something like that should added to dwc2 as well [as you might've guessed I never had a close relationship with dwc2 ;-) ]
sb35 has joined #linux-rockchip
<DuClare> Yeah I don't know what the policy is
<DuClare> If dwc2 (or its realization on rk3288) can't handle it, shouldn't it be hard-disabled in the driver rather than through DT flags?
<DuClare> Not that it matters to me personally
<DuClare> :)

<DuClare> Hmm
<DuClare> dwc2 exposes a regdump via debugfs, any idea if there's something similar for the generic ehci driver?
<DuClare> Actually, as a matter of fact, I'm a little confused as to how ehci_hcd would get its regs set
<DuClare> (... but then again I haven't written any debug printfs for that yet so the answer could be obvious)
<DuClare> struct ehci_hcd and struct usb_hcd both have regs
<DuClare> vendor kernel does the same but then also assigns regs for ehci_hcd, with a slight offset: https://github.com/rockchip-linux/kernel/blob/release-4.4/drivers/usb/host/ehci1-rockchip.c#L292
