Hm, I lost track on the state of the USB3 port on the rk3328. Is it supported in current mainline kernels now?
<nomis>
(I am still on a 5.4 kernel and pondering an upgrade)
<robmur01>
Not yet.
<nomis>
robmur01: is there a preferred patch? AFAIK there were two different patches bouncing around last time I looked.
<robmur01>
(on my NanoPi R2S I just have the DWC3 parts added to the DT with the RK3399 compatible - that doesn't even need any kernel changes :D)
<nomis>
robmur01: you are on current mainline? 5.11.x?
<robmur01>
I think there were more like 3 or 4 different patch sets floating about by the time I gave up and started tuning it all out again...
<nomis>
I guess I should try upgrading to 5.10 and start fiddeling on that, that is the next longterm release apparently.
<nomis>
for me usb2 would be totally sufficient. Right now the port is dead as a dodo unfortunately.
<robmur01>
In truth I don't think I've even booted that box for a month or more, so it's probably not updated to 5.11 yet, but it's nominally running rolling mainline
<robmur01>
(TBF Arch have carried the very original RK3328 DWC3 patches since forever, so I could equally be taking advantage of that)
<robmur01>
no phy disconnection issues when the USB3-ethernet chip is hard-wired :)
<nomis>
robmur01: I am not familiar with the r2s, does it have an ethernet-adapter hardwired to the usb3 port?
<robmur01>
indeed, its intended purpose is to be a teeny-tiny dual-port GbE router
<nomis>
nice :-)
<nomis>
robmur01: thanks for your input. I'll try updating to 5.10 and hack on from there.
<nomis>
heck, even disconnection issues would be kind of acceptable.
<robmur01>
certainly if you have only one device or an external hub you can keep plugged in - otherwise it depends how much you like rebooting to swap devices ;)
<nomis>
hotswapping in our case is not that critical. The system is intended to be started and then run perpetually. However, clients reliably plug stuff in the wrong port when installing it for the first time...

Is possible to compile u-boot without FIT?
<uis>
Or make it just smaller
<uis>
8.6 mb
<uis>
And what purpose of returning to brom?
<uis>
Ouch. It's not 8.6
