<kz1> does anyone here know how to stop this message: [DISP WRN] file:drivers/video/sun7i/disp/de_bsp/de/disp_layer.c,line:364: all layer resource used!
<mnemoc> vi drivers/video/sun7i/disp/de_bsp/de/disp_layer.c
<kz1> yeah, I'm trying to understand why is it happening?
<mnemoc> kz1: libv, ssvb and techn are the people to answer that question
bbrezillon has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<ssvb> kz1: there is no 'drivers/video/sun7i' directory in the sunxi-3.4 kernel, what kind of kernel are you using?
<kz1> the stock allwinner kernel
<ssvb> this does not tell me anything, is it even easily available anywhere (for example on github)?
<kz1> I'll have to look for it online. It is the kernel that I was provided for the a20 from Allwinner. It sounds like the code is not public though.
<ssvb> on android or gnu/linux? and what are you doing when it happens?
<kz1> unfortunately it's android-4.4 and I am trying to boot the kernel. I am using the working lichee kernel from android-4.2
<ssvb> in any case, you probably understand that we are very unlikely to be able to provide any help with this problem, since we can't even identify the kernel
<ssvb> btw, has anyone tried android-4.4 with the sunxi-3.4 kernel?
<kz1> Yep. I'll see what I can do about that last part.
<kz1> Allwinner have recently ported 4.4 but the lichee they have provided is oopsing at boot
<kz1> I can get a lot further with the old lichee from 4.2 but it still has issues
<kz1> afk, lunch...

<bonbons> anyone know how rtc is powered on cubietruck? When I shutdown (sunxi 3.4.x kernel), pull the power cable, wait 5 minutes, plug cable back in rtc time is lost (and cubietruck boots immediately while I would expect it to stay off until pressing power button)
fredy has quit [Excess Flood]
* ssvb has found it in the cubieboard linux-sunxi fork a few week ago, but has not tested it yet
<ssvb> bonbons: if you confirm that it really helps, then mnemoc may probably sanitize and apply it to the stage/sunxi-3.4 branch

<mnemoc> +1
<bonbons> ssvb: hm, how do I get github to present me raw patch?
<mnemoc> append .patch to the url

<bonbons> ssvb, mnemoc: seems not to help, dmesg says: "rtc: get i2c master0 failed"
<bonbons> which means it's not poking at the i2c registers at all
RzR has quit [Excess Flood]
<ssvb> bonbons: maybe some other patches are also missing? you can probably try to compile the cubieboard kernel fork and check if it works
<bonbons> will try
<ssvb> if this helps, then we would need to identify which patches are missing in the linux-sunxi kernel and scavenge all of them :)

<bonbons> in practice as well, but not sure why sometimes it likes to boot from nand instead of mmc
FreezingCold has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<mnemoc> bonbons: that means it didn't see the mmc
<bonbons> mnemoc: seems to happen mostly on shutdown -h -> power-on via power button.
<bonbons> not seen it yet on reboot (as far as I remember), but reboot is not nice to SATA disks as it does not stop the disk before resetting (and thus cutting SATA power)

<Turl> sehraf: if you're using a cubietruck those are the firmwares wens & others have been using for bcmdhd on mainline
<Turl> sehraf: I believe you can adjust the file names in use with module parameters

<sehraf> yes i'm using a CT - i'll se if i can get it to work
<Turl> if you're using 3.4 make sure you get the working driver from cubietech, https://github.com/cubieboard/linux-sunxi/commit/aff95a2fc4192f72c9ff33abfd17144e25773c5a

<imcsk8> hello, i'm following this tutorial http://docs.cubieboard.org/tutorials/ct1/development/compiling_latest_kernel_for_cubietruck_cubieboard3 but i have a problem. when i boot my system hangs showing a backtrace after some systemd-journal process info, i don't have a serial connection so i can't paste the output. can somebody give me a hint?

<Turl> imcsk8: the config is probably lacking one of the options systemd assumes people enable
<Turl> if you have a previous kernel that worked ok, then reuse its config, otherwise have a look at the config fedora images are built with
<Turl> or Arch ones
<Turl> I believe both of them use systemd

<syeekick> how would one back up there cubie truck to make a bootable image file so i could copy back onto the hard drive with something like clonezilla, and make it bootable without much hastle?
<Turl> syeekick: you'd need a card still to host the bootloader
<syeekick> turl!!
<syeekick> grub?
<Turl> most people just copy their rootfs with rsync/cp to a new partition on the disk and then change the uboot configuration to pass root=/dev/sdawhatever
<Turl> syeekick: no, uboot
<Turl> I assume you're talking about sunxi hardware given the channel we're in+
<syeekick> yeah
<Turl> so just connect the disk and sd card to a pc, copy the rootfs carefully and edit the uEnv.txt on the sd card to pass root=/dev/sdaN isntead of /dev/mmcblk0pN
<syeekick> would you back up the hole partition ?
<Turl> you can do that and then grow it if you want
<syeekick> yeah
<Turl> you can just copy the files as well as long as you preserve permissions and such
FreezingCold has joined #linux-sunxi
<syeekick> like shrink it down from 240gb to the max size which is 6gb used and then back up that .imgg of the whole filesystem and binaries, then dd that onto the hard drive and use uenv to manipulate the uboot loader
<syeekick> Skaag,
<syeekick> yeah i had a crda problem with the cubietruck but, it worked
<syeekick> eventually
