<JohnDoe_71Rus> rebranding?
<mnemoc> JohnDoe_71Rus: https://sunxi.org/ works since early 2012 iirc
<mnemoc> a naive attempt to broaden the scope of the community
<mnemoc> sadly many people keeps binding us with the 3.4 kernel alone
<mnemoc> it was always intended to cover anything related to allwinner SoCs.... kernel wise we began at 2.6.36 and move it forward to 3.0 and to 3.4 before allwinner did
<mnemoc> i fail to see why the move to mainline is different
<mnemoc> or different kernels, bootloaders, and REing of closed units
<JohnDoe_71Rus> how many sunxi devices work in the world? some statistic
<mnemoc> no clue
<wens> afaerber: how's mmc on the a80 coming? i have some clock patches for it: https://github.com/wens/linux/tree/sun9i-mmc

<hramrach_> chkktri: there is no tablet with known good touchscreen support. Also surfing can be quite resource intensive
<hramrach_> as in I have not seen an AW tablet with decent web browser performance
<hramrach_> best performance you will get is probably with a20 atm but still poor
<hramrach_> touchscreen support is hit and miss. unless somebody has touchscreen working on a tablet and you can be sure you can get the exact same hardware it may or may not work
afaerber has quit [Quit: Verlassend]
<hramrach_> you might get usable surfing performance with an a80 or rk3188/rk3288 but the support for those SoCs is severely lacking

<mnemoc> mripard: I fail to see why the move from 3.4 to 3.8 and so on qualifies as an "we vs. them" and not just the continuation of the same project which began with 2.6.36
<mnemoc> mripard: goals evolved as the project and the community matured.
leviathanch2 has joined #linux-sunxi
<mripard> mnemoc: why does it qualify?

<hramrach_> *port
<hramrach_> because you get sanely structured and licensed drivers in case you were to try another OS
<hramrach_> there is that NetBSD effort to make most drivers dual kernel/userspace without code change
<hramrach_> rapid development and possible code reusability in other projects

<Offshore> how to intentionally make a recoverable error on ext* filefyftem making it unmountable without fixing it by fsck?
<Offshore> i need it to create a sutuation when root cant be mounted and fsck forced and it PROMPTS user during a boot time
<Offshore> so i can check a connection to headless server to answer something to the prompt\
<Offshore> using tune2fs to forse check is unsuitable -- it just checks and continues

<hramrach_> Getty: yeah, you can like backup your superblock and then overwrite it with 0
<Getty> hramracn_: that would have been my suggestion
<Getty> like dd out some blocks at the beginning
<Getty> and dd them back in later
<hramrach_> but you might have trouble booting even with fsck without restoring the superblock by hand
<Getty> yeah well it seems like he wanted just to see that it stops
<Getty> and not actually get it fixed on that stage
<hramrach_> there are some repairable but not automagically repairable errors
<hramrach_> on which fsck stops
<hramrach_> Offshore | how to intentionally make a recoverable error on ext*
<hramrach_> so probably wants it fixed after the prompt
<Getty> i thought it was more a "after the test recoverable" ;)
<Getty> wouldnt the boot test like for sure recover errors he can recover? and only would ask if he for sure destroys data if he would fix it (and so gives you the chance to fix it otherway)

<Offshore> Getty, not yet
<Offshore> [00:16] <Getty> yeah well it seems like he wanted just to see that it stops
<Getty> "not yet" <= you didnt found it
<Getty> and you quote me to say "yes thats what i want" ?
<Getty> dude, you got 10 fingers, use them ;)
<Offshore> no, i really want to make some "serious" inconsistency for fsck to be worried but be able to fix
<Getty> oh! ok, yeah thats a bit more complex then :)
<Getty> i just wonder what this case will be
<Offshore> [01:30] <Getty> "not yet" <= you didnt found it | yes i didnt, sorry :)
<Getty> as i think fsck fixes all automatically what it CAN automatically fix without damage to the data
<Offshore> Getty, well 10 fingers, but not native english :p
<Getty> he just blocks if there is a RISK that data gets lost and he cant decide that
<Getty> me too :-P thats no excuse
<Getty> just write MORE
<Getty> say it 3 times
<Getty> works ;)
<Getty> we are not twitter, no 140 char limit! :D
<Getty> btw, its "native speaking english".... i do the same mistake ;)
<Offshore> [01:31] <Getty> as i think fsck fixes all automatically what it CAN | well. orphaned inodes maybe
<Offshore> but how to introduce them?
<Getty> Offshore: yeah well.... zero-pad some area of the fs???
<Getty> offshore: if you dont care abut the test filesystem, just zero-fill like.... 1/4 of the harddisc
<Getty> I BET THATS ENOUGH TO STOP HIM ;)
<Getty> hehehe
<Getty> but he will offer you a fix, i bet
<Offshore> Getty, now im testing with vm, but the final test will be done with real system
<Getty> vm is fine for this
<Getty> totally
<Getty> so test what he does
<Getty> if you zero-fill some area
<Getty> be sure to hit an inode ;)
<Offshore> so, the situation im trying to be ready to:
* Getty suggests https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O51Wnm7Jvio for the good mood
<Offshore> consider lvm2, one vg, 4 pvs, 2 lvs: 1 mirrored (2 copies) and 1 linear
<Offshore> mirrored for db data, git, etc
<Offshore> linear for logs, torrents and stuff
<Getty> OH SHIT, LVM....??
<Getty> i am out ;)
<Offshore> no matter, lvm or raid
<Getty> "no matter"
<Getty> yeah that is pretty much relevant
<Getty> but ok.... as said, try with 0 filling some shit and see what happens
<Offshore> they are both good enough now, but lvm is much more convenient
<Getty> its a start
<Offshore> well okay
<Offshore> but tomorrow, its almost 2am in moscow :)
<Getty> 2 AM? and you stop working?
<Getty> seriously???? ..... pussy....
<Getty> and that as a russian..... my white russian next to me is seriously disappointed

<Getty> LOL how old you are now?

<Getty> then you dont need to be there at 8 oclock :-P

<Getty> you are doing it wrong!
<Offshore> 8am is time to get up to be there at 10am
<Getty> when i still worked at companies, the boss was pleased when i reached at 13-14 oclock
<Offshore> ceos assembly when no managers there
<Getty> nowadays i work till 5-6 in the morning
<Offshore> Getty, heh, just 1 year ago i was doing the same shit
<Offshore> and i fuken miss that thing
<Getty> YOU picked todo legal shit
<Getty> its YOUR choice
<Getty> we do IT cause we can do that
