<beeble> R0b0t1: on the h6 the usb3 controller is host only
reinforce has joined #linux-sunxi
ernestask has joined #linux-sunxi
<R0b0t1> That is unfortunate
<R0b0t1> I have two exynos boards. I do not like them because they are closed. But, seeing as the SoC was meant for phones I thought I might have a chance of doing device mode USB 3 with them. The newer one with better support has the controller behind a hub on the circuit, unfortunately.
<R0b0t1> The older one might work.
<R0b0t1> But since it's closed I may be depending on 1 guy.
<R0b0t1> I have a Cypress FX3 board which is a parallel to USB3 interface but I'm not sure it would be easy to glue to an Allwinner part
naggety has joined #linux-sunxi
<R0b0t1> I can program the FX3 just fine but I'm not sure how easy a driver for parallel XHCI would be
<naggety> jernej: I saw your message about TVIN documentation in R40 manual. Thanks, I will try to check if they are the same registers than in A20 looking to the driver.
<beeble> R0b0t1: interfacing the fx3 would be more then a challenge and you would not gain any speed improvements
<beeble> R0b0t1: how about just using a device that has a usb3 dual role controller? :)
<R0b0t1> Do you know of any
<R0b0t1> I've tried what I could think of (mainly searching for gadget driver stuff) but it's not something that is advertised
<beeble> rk3399 for example if it can be something other then allwinner
<R0b0t1> That'd be fine
<R0b0t1> rk3399 only, the older ones do not do device mode?
<beeble> talking about socs that are open enough. rk3328 has only usb3 host. 3288 is 2.0 only
elros has joined #linux-sunxi
<R0b0t1> Not trying to be picky, the "older" ones are cheaper
<R0b0t1> Dang
<R0b0t1> beeble: Can you recommend a manufacturer?
<beeble> select two: cheap, open, functionality
<R0b0t1> Xunlong Software Co. Ltd. is out of stock otherwise I'd have tried that
<R0b0t1> Open first, then cheap
<R0b0t1> Then open and functionality
<beeble> then you are out of luck :)
<beeble> i will not recommend any manufacturers as i'm biased
<wens> lol
<R0b0t1> What do you mean beeble
<R0b0t1> I don't have anything to go on, really
<wens> R0b0t1: he works for a board vendor, hence is biased
<R0b0t1> Well since he said that it's above board now
<R0b0t1> I'd still like a recommendation unless he thinks I am going to go find him and/or send him flowers
<R0b0t1> Unless he wants flowers I guess

<anarsoul> mripard: no worries

Mr__Anderson has joined #linux-sunxi
mavkhimenia has joined #linux-sunxi
<mripard> anarsoul: it's not clear how we can have something useful
<mripard> the more accurate technical solution would be to use the display_timing structure and convert to that API
<mripard> and it allows to specify minimum, maximum and typical values for all the timings
<mripard> however, we most of the time don't have that information for the panel we have
<anarsoul> mripard: OK, how do I do that if panel is connected through bridge?
<anarsoul> and I get all the timing information from EDID
<mripard> the 5% setting is an arbitrary limit that should work in most cases, but not all of them, and we might have some false positive
<mripard> so you have the TCON -> Bridge -> Panel ?
<anarsoul> yes
<mripard> what bridge is that ?
<anarsoul> anx6345
<anarsoul> rgb->edp bridge
<anarsoul> and panel is edp panel

<anarsoul> mripard: I agree that 5% is arbitrary, but current check is too strict. It's close to impossibel to get exact clock in most cases
<mripard> anarsoul: I know
<mripard> I guess a good solution would be to use the display_timing all the time and have the same min/max/typ values when applicable
<mripard> in your particular case, EDID seems to have in addition to the timings a descriptor for the panel tolerances
<mripard> in the Monitor Descriptor Description
<mripard> I guess you can use that to generate it
<mripard> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Display_Identification_Data, see the EDID Display Range Limits Descriptor array
<mripard> I'm not sure if it's supported by DRM yet though
<mripard> but that would be valuable to have
clemens3 has joined #linux-sunxi
<anarsoul> I don't see range limit descriptor in edid
kaspter has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
kaspter has joined #linux-sunxi
<anarsoul> so panel tolerance is more than 5% as per spec, but it's not specified in edid
<anarsoul> (btw, you can find edid in spec as well)
<mripard> I don't have a good solution then :/
<mripard> I guess you can submit something, and we'll discuss it with the DRM maintainers

<webuser5224> Hello everyone!
<webuser5224> I have a question: can I put my SBC (OPi PC) into a low-power mode and still let it register an input from a sensor to wake it up, e. g. a PIR sensor?

<brianjaod> Hey all, I have a burning question about Allwinner hardware/software development: how do I get normal development support docs, datasheets, design guides, app notes, dev kits, sample code, etc? I'm new to Allwinner, but have been doing embedded hardware/firmware development for 20 years and usually that type of info for different SoCs/MCUs is freely provided by the manufacturer to promote product development with their chips
<brianjaod> But with Allwinner, it seems to be this crazy mystery and very little publicly available
<brianjaod> What am I missing?
<brianjaod> I'd LOVE some insight from you pros, thanks!
<KotCzarny> that allwinner is low end of cheap
<KotCzarny> and documentation is provided in the form of old source code
<KotCzarny> :)
Mr__Anderson has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<brianjaod> haha, yeah, crazy!
<KotCzarny> crappy source code at that, mind you
<brianjaod> I don't get it though; don't they want to sell more chips?
<brianjaod> And AT LEAST provide basic docs to allow development?
<KotCzarny> but, linux-sunxi is a community of fine folks that got things in their hands and RE'd most things
<KotCzarny> so your best bet is to go to linux-sunxi.org
<KotCzarny> plenty of info there
<KotCzarny> as for hardware dev, bad luck i guess
<brianjaod> Yeah, I've been reading all through that sunxi wiki, but still have a TON of questions
<KotCzarny> there are few open designs available though
<brianjaod> Yeah, we're starting with the hardware design now, but it's nearly impossible
<brianjaod> We're hoping to design our own custom V3 or V3s board for a custom type of camera
<brianjaod> But don't even the Chinese engineers, that develop with Allwinner devices, don't even they need basic mfr support?
nuuuciano has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<KotCzarny> i suspect knowing chinese and having contacts helps
<brianjaod> Hmm, it's so weird. I've already tried to contact Allwinner direcly, but still waiting for a response
<KotCzarny> got an order for 10k chips or more? maybe they will talk then
<KotCzarny> a bit
<brianjaod> Anybody here have any experience with the V3 or V3s camera-related chips?
<brianjaod> Would love some experienced input, and willing to pay
<KotCzarny> maybe you could write to lichee pi maker
chomwitt has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<brianjaod> Yeah, I'm reviewing the litchee pi github and forum stuff, but I haven't tried to contact them yet. Just saw a bunch of angry comments on Indiegogo about unfulfilled backers, etc
