<BytePaste> GrimKriegor: doesn't armbian still support banana pi m1? it is here: https://www.armbian.com/bananapi/
rexxster has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<GrimKriegor> my bad BytePaste, I eventually found that page, but I was blindly unable to find it a while ago. Excellent. Still, is there a recommended way on how to get Debian armhf on a A20 board?
<BytePaste> I always just write the armbian image to an sd card
<BytePaste> oh you mean regular debian without armbian patches
<BytePaste> there are some guides on how to cross debootstrap
<BytePaste> prob wouldn't be too hard to rip off armbian's uboot and kernel+initrd and place it on top of a custom debootstrap of debian armhf
<beeble> about cross debootstrap
<beeble> qemu-debootstrap --arch=armhf stretch debianstretch
<beeble> done
<BytePaste> beeble: that's cheating ;)
<beeble> whatever gets the job done fastest? :)

<vagrantc> BytePaste: there are several A20 boards supported by debian-installer: https://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/installer-armhf/current/images/netboot/SD-card-images/
<vagrantc> BytePaste: if it's supported with mainline linux 4.9.x ... otherwise you can use the daily images to install a work-in-progress version of debian
<vagrantc> BytePaste: you might have to build and install u-boot yourself
<vagrantc> BytePaste: looks like bananapi-m1-plus is at least has a device-tree for linux 4.9.x: https://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/installer-armhf/current/images/device-tree/
<vagrantc> no idea how well supported
<vagrantc> GrimKriegor: or maybe that is of interest to you ^^
<GrimKriegor> thanks a lot guys!
<vagrantc> GrimKriegor: fwiw, i run my main firewall as a cubieboard1
<GrimKriegor> interesting, how is performance?
* vagrantc mostly runs machines headless without video and serial console
<vagrantc> GrimKriegor: works fine as a firewall
<vagrantc> with essentailly constant traffic
<GrimKriegor> excellent! been running a mesh of lime2 and banana pis for a while, impressed with the performance and reliability. Hence my fear of the banana pi loosing support

<GrimKriegor> buZz, awesome! That's 3d printed right?
<buZz> yep :)
<GrimKriegor> can see some faint ridges
<GrimKriegor> impressive
<buZz> https://imgur.com/a/BVqsr48 < some pics of design prior to printing
<GrimKriegor> any interior pics?
<GrimKriegor> ah, excellent
<buZz> interior placeholders are in the design , as visible on these old designs ; https://imgur.com/a/e9MPFiO
<GrimKriegor> that looks like openscad
<buZz> it is :)
<buZz> best CSG tool to me
<GrimKriegor> impressive work indeed, congrats
<buZz> \o , just gotta replace the screen , as i blew up the backlight :P
<buZz> but that 'fbtft' driver works well in armbian
<GrimKriegor> I imagine the code for those shapes must be quite complex
<buZz> not the worst, i can share a snippet
kaspter has joined #linux-sunxi
<buZz> or entire thing ; https://hastebin.com/ebojudedin.cpp
<buZz> module backcase() {
<buZz> that defines the shape of the case
<buZz> mixed dutch/english comments etc ;) once i'm done i'll clean up that code
<GrimKriegor> thanks for sharing, awesome work. Should really try to learn this sort of modeling, CSG is it?
<buZz> yeah , constructive solid geometry
<GrimKriegor> TIL, OpenSCAD has a "Thrown Together" option that shows how the shapes go together before the bolean ops, awesome
<buZz> when you 'math' on objects
<GrimKriegor> this helps a lot when trying to understand how you accomplished this
<buZz> i learned a while ago, that nearly 100% of CAD work for US Army is in CSG
<buZz> using http://brlcad.org/
<GrimKriegor> awesome, this seems really useful. Always wanted to be able to do cool parametric designs with a few variables
<buZz> just use openscad imho ;)
<buZz> avoid anything that would make you a viable army employee, at all times
<buZz> world needs less violence
<GrimKriegor> will have to learn this properly this time, ahah, thanks for the inspiration
<buZz> :) welcome
<GrimKriegor> no interest in being in the army, fortunately
<buZz> there is #openscad
<buZz> i idle in there
<GrimKriegor> also, no real army where I live
<buZz> praise your nation :D

<GrimKriegor> oh it seems you can easily use an external editor, most excellent
<buZz> yeah anything you want really , i've even seen people use openscad from Makefiles :D

<buZz> i wished friendlyarm had put the OTG usbport on the headers aswell :P
<KotCzarny> you can use one of the boards using usb-a port for otg
<buZz> yeah i was considering that
<buZz> for now i just cut away most of a usbmicro cable
<buZz> still need to solder it in but wont care for now, still waiting for replacement screen :)
<KotCzarny> what will be the purpose of that build?
<buZz> hehe, ppl keep asking that :P
<buZz> i dno , 'webpotato' has been a project name
<buZz> or 'modern chumby'
<KotCzarny> too small to be viable tv replacement
<buZz> i was aiming to run ppsspp on it, or at least pcsx
<buZz> but i'll see , probably just end up collecting dust
<buZz> :)
<buZz> i'm mostly enjoying making it, but its completely general purpose
<KotCzarny> yeah, learning value is also nice
<buZz> and just entertainment :)
<KotCzarny> sell it, or make a kickstarter campaign out of it to check ppl's interest
<buZz> hehe
<buZz> yeah i've been considering it, or just list as some artisan linux machine on etsy :P
<buZz> its about 1:8 scale , maybe i can sell it to people building doll houses :D
<buZz> ah, those are 1:12 , it seems
<buZz> i dont think many 26" serial terminals were built :D
<KotCzarny> will make a fine 50" specimen for those
<buZz> heh
<buZz> its just a 2.2" screen :)
<KotCzarny> thought it's 4"
<buZz> 320x240 ILI9341 , supported by that fbtft thingy

<willmore> Where do you find filament in such colors? Does someone make "old computer case beige/grey"/
<buZz> i had to search around a bit, but there are some ppl that make beige/grey/mehwhite colors filament
<buZz> this is by some polish filament producer called 'devil design'
<buZz> both the beige and the brown
<willmore> Nice.
<buZz> 'faberdashery' in uk also makes nice colors, but the polish one was a bit more red , which felt more authentic to me :)
