<karlp> hrm, can't get ethernet to work on orangepi zero plus. mii info just shows zeros for all.
<karlp> (in uboot this is)
<karlp> I suspect that the defconfig in master is not entirely correct, but siwtching off allwinner 8i emac and turning on allwinner gmac results in it hanging
<karlp> the one built by openwrt doesn't work either.

<anarsoul> mripard: I tested Icenowy's A64 HDMI series, it works fine for me on Pine64-LTS
<anarsoul> mripard: so I think there's no reason to drop [PATCH v4 11/11] arm64: dts: allwinner: a64: Enable HDMI output on A64 boards w/ HDMI

<jerbob92> karlp, "do you know if anyone outside sunxi community is working on wifi like the rtl8189ftv", working on, like getting into kernel?
Wizzup has joined #linux-sunxi
<karlp> yeah, only thing I've seen is the notes on sunxi wiki referring to hans's tree, and hauke from openwrt saying it's not ready: __STATIC_INLINE
<jaganteki> Hi anarsoul
mavkhimenia has joined #linux-sunxi
<buZz> jerbob92: the driver is called 8189fs
<buZz> oh, karlp
<jaganteki> I've tried A64 HDMI on 2560 x 1440 Pixel monitor here is the hw link
<buZz> oh lol jerbob92 , your commits are in there :)
<fALSO> jaganteki, :)
<buZz> jaganteki: on hdmi?
<fALSO> jaganteki, in the H5 and H3
<buZz> didnt know that works
<jaganteki> I have tried all the boards with this. and sure I'm using new dtb
<fALSO> a patch by jernej is needed
<jerbob92> buZz, yeah, but the device is called rtl8189ftv :)
<fALSO> to get HDMI working on those resolutions
<jaganteki> but it's unstable
<fALSO> =)
<buZz> fALSO: ah, cool
<jaganteki> ie the reason I'm asking someone to verify..thanks for doing that
<fALSO> i always got a black screen
<fALSO> only got image on uboot
<fALSO> when the kernel booted, just a black screen
<jaganteki> I usually enable bootlogs so I get 4 penguins
<fALSO> nice
<buZz> i noticed the 11" pinebook now finally exists
<karlp> buZz: yes, there's a 8189fs driver in the vendor image, but I'm more curiosu about a stable workable one with a kernel that's not the vendor blobbs
<buZz> tbh 99% of wifi hw only works with blobs
<jerbob92> karlp, well I added the latest official Realtek driver I could find to Hans's repo and made sure it compiles with the latest kernel, but I don't think it will get into the kernel
<buZz> ok, maybe 95%
<jerbob92> Isn't that blob just a compiled version of some old realtek driver?
<buZz> if the blob is static inline, thats dumb yeah , it should use the normal firmware loading stuff
<karlp> jerbob92: so the https://github.com/jwrdegoede/rtl8189ES_linux is as good as it gets right now then?
<karlp> buZz: not really concerned about blobs per se, more that they actually function with userspace.
<jerbob92> @karlp, yeah, I guess
<buZz> karlp: well its not the best driver
<buZz> from what i see adhoc doesnt even work
<jerbob92> And that openwrt thread is about merging into openwrt kernel
<karlp> right, so my question is/was, is anyone working on that, at any point in the forseeable future? or is it a deadendand I should find some different wifi hardware
<karlp> jerbob92: more that the driver as is isn't functional with the way that openwrt userspace expects to be able to use the interfaces
<KotCzarny> using different hardware isnt bad idea
<karlp> so until it is, there's point in merging it.
<KotCzarny> :)
<buZz> karlp: i would just pick wifi hardware on -already- being inside mainline kernel
<KotCzarny> rt5370 for a start is bit better than most rtl
<karlp> yes, that's always ideal.
<jerbob92> karlp, well, not usable in openwrt, it's usable if you just use it to just connect to a wifi network
<buZz> ath9k is a killer driver ;)
<KotCzarny> :)
<jerbob92> I tried contacting Realtek for more up-to-date drivers, but never got a reply
<buZz> i dont think realtek is in the business to make users happier
<wens> lol
<wens> I know someone in realtek's kernel team, though I don't know how they divide up between BUs

wwilly has joined #linux-sunxi
<buZz> MoeIcenowy: no, it requires blobs
<MoeIcenowy> the FW is already not a blob
<MoeIcenowy> it's open
<buZz> there is a open blob for it though
<buZz> its not the official atheros blob
<MoeIcenowy> it's official

<MoeIcenowy> and the newest FW in linux-firmware is built on this
<KotCzarny> atheros is now owned byc quallcomm
<KotCzarny> which is a pity
<MoeIcenowy> buZz: yes, note the GitHub oragniztion is called "qca" (QualComm Atheros)
<buZz> ahhh
<buZz> ty
<jaganteki> can you check the panel desc.. I'm observing some panel power issue https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/2M7m56dvm6/
<jaganteki> this is with A64 DSI
<MoeIcenowy> and please check the readme
<buZz> -iirc- prism2 worked without a blob?
<MoeIcenowy> the main copyright holder is QCA
<MoeIcenowy> buZz: it is blobless, but 802.11b
<buZz> uhuh
<buZz> could be fine for many purposes
<KotCzarny> o.O
<MoeIcenowy> in 2018 we need at least a 802.11abgn
<MoeIcenowy> (or maybe abg is also acceptable
<buZz> i noticed the nintendo switch'es on our network dont seem be above 11mbps
<buZz> to be*
<MoeIcenowy> nintendo switches uses ath6kl
<MoeIcenowy> although I don't like bgn devices, I now must bear with them, because they're still common
<MoeIcenowy> sorry switch uses brcmfmac
<MoeIcenowy> it's dsi/3ds that uses ath6kl
