the http://linux-sunxi.org/A64#FEL_booting command line (especially just using the spl binary from there) work great. give's me a uboot on console via usb.

(in uboot this is)

I suspect that the defconfig in master is not entirely correct, but siwtching off allwinner 8i emac and turning on allwinner gmac results in it hanging
<karlp>
the one built by openwrt doesn't work either.

karlp, "do you know if anyone outside sunxi community is working on wifi like the rtl8189ftv", working on, like getting into kernel?
Wizzup has joined #linux-sunxi
<karlp>
yeah, only thing I've seen is the notes on sunxi wiki referring to hans's tree, and hauke from openwrt saying it's not ready: __STATIC_INLINE
<jaganteki>
Hi anarsoul
mavkhimenia has joined #linux-sunxi
<buZz>
jerbob92: the driver is called 8189fs
<buZz>
oh, karlp
<jaganteki>
I've tried A64 HDMI on 2560 x 1440 Pixel monitor here is the hw link
<buZz>
i noticed the 11" pinebook now finally exists
<karlp>
buZz: yes, there's a 8189fs driver in the vendor image, but I'm more curiosu about a stable workable one with a kernel that's not the vendor blobbs
<buZz>
tbh 99% of wifi hw only works with blobs
<jerbob92>
karlp, well I added the latest official Realtek driver I could find to Hans's repo and made sure it compiles with the latest kernel, but I don't think it will get into the kernel
<buZz>
ok, maybe 95%
<jerbob92>
Isn't that blob just a compiled version of some old realtek driver?
<buZz>
if the blob is static inline, thats dumb yeah , it should use the normal firmware loading stuff
<karlp>
buZz: not really concerned about blobs per se, more that they actually function with userspace.
<jerbob92>
@karlp, yeah, I guess
<buZz>
karlp: well its not the best driver
<buZz>
from what i see adhoc doesnt even work
<jerbob92>
And that openwrt thread is about merging into openwrt kernel
<karlp>
right, so my question is/was, is anyone working on that, at any point in the forseeable future? or is it a deadendand I should find some different wifi hardware
<karlp>
jerbob92: more that the driver as is isn't functional with the way that openwrt userspace expects to be able to use the interfaces
<KotCzarny>
using different hardware isnt bad idea
<karlp>
so until it is, there's point in merging it.
<KotCzarny>
:)
<buZz>
karlp: i would just pick wifi hardware on -already- being inside mainline kernel
<KotCzarny>
rt5370 for a start is bit better than most rtl
<karlp>
yes, that's always ideal.
<jerbob92>
karlp, well, not usable in openwrt, it's usable if you just use it to just connect to a wifi network
<buZz>
ath9k is a killer driver ;)
<KotCzarny>
:)
<jerbob92>
I tried contacting Realtek for more up-to-date drivers, but never got a reply
<buZz>
i dont think realtek is in the business to make users happier
<wens>
lol
<wens>
I know someone in realtek's kernel team, though I don't know how they divide up between BUs

i remember seeing something about how simplefb can "hand-off" the framebuffer to the DRM once it's loaded, seems like that would be the reason for this
