<linkmauve> I’m not aware of any emulator for the GPU for instance, but the distributions usually build their kernel in a fairly generic fashion which will work even on different hardware (like Qemu emulated hardware).

<apritzel> Lada: virtualization with KVM (and QEMU) should work out of the box, given the kernel has KVM enabled (most do, as it's in defconfig)
<apritzel> Lada: there is not much device specific here, it's mostly architectural. And sunxi has a GIC, so much better than the RPi3

<anarsoul> Lada: IIRC qemu doesn't emulate GPU, even for rpi. Since most of pinephone OSes utilize GPU you won't be able to run them in emulator
<apritzel> anarsoul: actually there not even a framebuffer, since there is no emulation of the Allwinner Display Engine (the command line even says -nographic)
<anarsoul> apritzel: mentioned tutorial doesn't emulate rpi either, it emulates arm versatile board instead
<apritzel> yeah, once can easily run a generic ARM64 kernel in QEMU, using "-M virt -cpu cortex-a57 -nographic", but this would be headless
