<cr1901_modern>
That's a cool looking library. Looks like it's quite general/could be used for a number of optimization problems
<sb0>
so, xilinx expects you to detect two rising edges of an asynchronous signal (TXPHALIGNDONE) to indicate when their transceiver is ready
<sb0>
I suggest they use messages in morse code to make it even more stupid
<cr1901_modern>
Why is this stupid?
<sb0>
it's a completely arbitrary interface, and detecting underspecified async signals is hard
<sb0>
they should have rather spent the hard-block silicon area on cleaning up that signal (make it go high and stay high when init is complete) instead of things that are logical and that the fabric does well, like 8b10b

" The first assertion of TXPHALIGNDONE will have a minimum pulse width of 100 ns. " - that's all it says
<sb0>
rjo, i suggested a menu bar. then it can have the usual options to tile mdi windows, open/close docks, etc.
mithro_ is now known as mithro
<sb0>
Qt gives you QActions for this that you can just drop into a menu
<rjo>
sb0: yes. i know how to set that up as a menu bar. but that is about as large as the toolbar.
<rjo>
and it would be a one-submenu, one action menu bar.
<rjo>
twice as awkward and more complicated to click as the toolbar.
<sb0>
there is the keyboard shortcut for quick open
<rjo>
it is still twice as awkward looking and about as large.
<sb0>
the menus can be something like: File, Docks, Windows
<sb0>
looks less awkward than a single-button toolbar imho
<rjo>
those actions could also be in the toolbar.
<sb0>
toolbar submenus?
<sb0>
ok
<rjo>
no. a bunch of toolbars or all actions in the same toolbar
<sb0>
I think one toolbar is more than enough
sb0 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<rjo>
but those actions are not needed. and having them just to fill up an otherwise mostly empty toolbar is pointless.
<rjo>
same for a menubar
<cr1901_modern>
rjo: Do you know how to make OpenOCD distinguish between two devices with the same FTDI chip?
<cr1901_modern>
-f board/$BOARD isn't working in my case b/c presumably the order that libusb subsystem is returning devices

<sb0>
you had proposed the mdi window layout actions
<rjo>
sb0: the standard "tile"/"arrange horiz"... actions? hmm. does anyone ever use them?
<rjo>
cr1901_modern: the configs look for a specific vid/pid/serial/text
<cr1901_modern>
Looks like the vid/pid are the same for both chips, so I'll need to be more specific
<rjo>
sb0: but e.g. afaik that "open new log dock" button should not be in the docks but somewhere else, globally, in a toolbar or menubar. that would then also be moved there. also probably "open experiment from file" in the dashboard.
<sb0>
"open new log dock" is only in the dashboard
<sb0>
I don't think there is a use case for multi-log-dock in the browser
<rjo>
sure. that's not my point.
<sb0>
but yes, if we have a toolbar in the dashboard, those things should go there

whitequark, baking the vacuum system at 170C right now. pressure went considerably higher.
<sb0>
(while hot)
<whitequark>
sb0: hmm
<whitequark>
did you wrap the system in heat insulation for that?
<whitequark>
and measure it using a thermocouple?
<sb0>
aluminum foil + TC, yes
<sb0>
and the beefier heating tape
<sb0>
the other one only went to 60C which didn't produce any effect on pressure
<whitequark>
beefier = longer?
<whitequark>
or wider?
<sb0>
wider and longer
<whitequark>
hm, is that mine?
<whitequark>
or did you order that?
<sb0>
yours
<whitequark>
hm, I don't remember having that one. but ok
<whitequark>
the turbopump stays at 25°C, right?
<sb0>
yes

chiller is running

great

hi
<mumptai>
is there a comprehensive manual or intro to migen/mibuild/misoc?
<rjo>
mibuild doesn't exist as such anymore. there is the migen tutorial and the migen documentation.
<rjo>
misoc itself there are a lot of projects to get you an idea and to copy-paste-from.
<rjo>
if you port blinkie to the current misoc/mibuild (which should not be that hard), that's an excellent tutorial in itself as well.
<mumptai>
so i better get a code-browser for python and some more coffein ;)
<mumptai>
it just appeared to me that such thing would be usefull for beginners
