<paulk-minnie>
Joerg-Neo900, DocScrutinizer05, hey, I just sent an email to your openmoko.org address, is it still valid?
<DocScrutinizer05>
sure, just reading it :-)
<freemangordon>
DocScrutinizer05: hi! what's up?
<DocScrutinizer05>
paulk-minnie: sure, sounds interesting, please send more details
<DocScrutinizer05>
hi freemangordon! all fine here
<freemangordon>
how's the project running?
<DocScrutinizer05>
we're just starting layout, more or less. Finding layouter and updating them on the requirements
<freemangordon>
sounds good, lets hope for a proto in 2 months :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
yeah, I wish it was that fast
<freemangordon>
well, 3 should be enough then :P

<paulk-minnie>
DocScrutinizer05, cool! Feel free to answer in the thread, since more people are involved
<drathir>
mornin/evenin...
<paulk-minnie>
DocScrutinizer05, I have a basic list of features and description for this project, I could probably send you that
<DocScrutinizer05>
paulk-minnie: please go ahead
<paulk-minnie>
DocScrutinizer05, overall, I guess the main problem with antenna switching is avoiding reflection, right?
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes
<paulk-minnie>
alright
<DocScrutinizer05>
also any "switch" you use must be able to cope with the rather storng signal
<paulk-minnie>
makes sense
<paulk-minnie>
DocScrutinizer05, so a termination load is required when disconnected, I suppose?
<DocScrutinizer05>
err well, the question is what exactly you want to accomplish. We didn't do this in Neo900
<paulk-minnie>
oh ok
<paulk-minnie>
well I only have basic EE skills
<DocScrutinizer05>
we switch down the modem completely, on battery side
<DocScrutinizer05>
if needed
<paulk-minnie>
well, all we can do here is act on the antenna
<paulk-minnie>
so we have to assume that the modem may still send a signal when the antenna is switched off
<DocScrutinizer05>
that might get pretty tricky
<paulk-minnie>
and so it could proabably reflect back if there's no termination load
<paulk-minnie>
to absorb the signal
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes
<paulk-minnie>
ok, thanks
<paulk-minnie>
DocScrutinizer05, gotta go now
<paulk-minnie>
got classes :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
and a termination load needs to dissipate the max TX continuous power of the modem, which is iirc 2W
<DocScrutinizer05>
which is quite a bit
<paulk-minnie>
ah right, it might quite a lot
<paulk-minnie>
heat quite a lot*
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes
<paulk-minnie>
good point
<drathir>
paulk-minnie: but even if antenna is detached the signal in cloose range of reciver could be sucessful?
<DocScrutinizer05>
then you want to make sure no RF leaks to air when you run on shunt-termination mode
<drathir>
ofc if i can ask...
<DocScrutinizer05>
drathir: exactly
paulk-minnie has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<drathir>
bc little awate of problem with sd cards used to transit/recive data in wireless way if good remember...
<drathir>
awate/aware*
<drathir>
and tat was no devices designed to transmit wireless way that could be bad if some leaks occuring there... ofc no offence at all only sharing my minds...
<DocScrutinizer05>
you have a point there
<DocScrutinizer05>
even modem without any antenna could receive and transmit with significantly reduced efficiency but still operable. You need special measures for shielding etc to ensure no RF creeps in from outside (RX) or from inside to free air (TX)
