<Joerg-Neo900>
nRST should reliably keep the chip inactive
<Joerg-Neo900>
also it's connected to codec, headphone is antenna only
<Joerg-Neo900>
well, the TX is actually from HP_AMP_IN
<Joerg-Neo900>
but nRST looks sage enough
<Joerg-Neo900>

was wondering if it is possible to support component TV-out, instead of (or besides) composite TV-out, but given capabilities of DM3730... No, not possible. Humans aren't expected to use one trrs jack for component TV-out and another method (Bluetooth or second trrs jack) for audio out
<Joerg-Neo900>
component loses all its advantages when routed over a cheesy TRRS
arcean has joined #neo900
<Joerg-Neo900>
and yes, then you need audio by another method
<Joerg-Neo900>
plus DM3730 doesn't support component
<Joerg-Neo900>
not really, since it has no really good "channel separation" at high freuqencies, and only one common ground
<Oksana>
And 5-ringed 3.5mm jack would be non-standard, and difficult to maintain backwards compatibility with 3-ring and 4-ring variants.
<Joerg-Neo900>
yes
<Joerg-Neo900>
and you'd really need a 3 + 6 ring
<Oksana>
And using two different trrs jacks for one component TV-out would get really complicated, despite its advantages of "two grounds" and "eight rings"
<Joerg-Neo900>
could get away with 6pin, but then YPbPr is no much better quality than CVBS
<Oksana>
Three grounds and nine rings altogether?
<Joerg-Neo900>
9 pins
<Oksana>
>> Among consumer analog interfaces, only YPbPr and analog RGB component video are capable of carrying non-interlaced video and resolutions higher than 480i or 576i, up to HD ready for YPbPr. <<
<Oksana>
Not that I would see the difference in video quality unless it was very, very bad
<Joerg-Neo900>
yeah, but not via a flimsy TRRS
<Oksana>
Not-flimsy ports are generally too thick for a mobile phone?
<Joerg-Neo900>
there are some
<Joerg-Neo900>
micro-HDMI for example

HDMI is proprietary and digital. I am partial to analog, even though it's old-fashioned.
<Joerg-Neo900>
the jack is just a jack
<Joerg-Neo900>
and it can cope with the frequencies on YPbPr easily
<Joerg-Neo900>
and prolly has enough pins
<Joerg-Neo900>
but anyway, we can't do component
<Oksana>
>> the jack is just a jack << external appearances are important for the sake of people not trying to use a jack for the purpose which it cannot fulfil

nods, just musing
<anon->
composite video out is already excessive imo, component would be complete insanity
<anon->
remember that this is a phone...
<Joerg-Neo900>
its little brother served me fine as videoplayer for several Dr.House episodes during my last visit in Spain
<Joerg-Neo900>
the TV had a SCART and a adapter for CVBS
<anon->
few modern devices have analogue inputs any more
<Joerg-Neo900>
and I got the cable with me
<anon->
woludn't a wireless protocol or hdmi-micro be better?
<Joerg-Neo900>
microHDMI would be a think if the SoC would generically support it without blobs. Wireless is up to software and so is that USB displayport(?) thing
<Joerg-Neo900>
s/think/thing/
<Joerg-Neo900>
~s/think/thing/
<anon->
perhaps a small fpga would be in order, but I think that level of video circuitry is out of scope

CVBS is still a thing on most of the modern TV's I have worked with. It maybe relegated to a 3.5 TRRS adaptor hidden under a plastic panel, or tied in with the component connectors but its normally an option. I would say USB to HDMI display adaptor would be another route.
<sixwheeledbeast>
I also use TV-out on N900 every now and again. If I have downloaded a video to watch, I have the lead to watch on a TV away from home.

What's the bluetooth chip used on the neo900? Is it free of prop binary blobs??
