<greenbagels> hm
<greenbagels> this feels very trivial, but for some reason running `ocaml myfile.ml` errors out on `open Base`
<greenbagels> oh wait
<oni-on-ion> got it working?
<greenbagels> sadly not
<greenbagels> kinda confused; it was working earlier
<greenbagels> now it doesn't after i added more stuff
<oni-on-ion> what is the error ?
<greenbagels> unbound module Base
<oni-on-ion> oh =) how come you want to 'open Base' ?
<oni-on-ion> i don't have a Base module either. is it jane street base ?
<greenbagels> hm now that you mention it
<greenbagels> good question
<greenbagels> oh wait one sec
<greenbagels> okay i dont need base anymore, hehe i was using pervasives but got confused by docs real quick
<oni-on-ion> ok cool =)
<oni-on-ion> companion_cube, ah! ppx_sexp is hard set for ocaml < 4.03.0 !
<greenbagels> Hm I think I'm getting confused on modules
<greenbagels> I'm trying to use Command.basic and Command.Spec to do some parsing
<greenbagels> ...are there any modules i need to open to use those?
<greenbagels> it seems its inside the Std module?
<greenbagels> gah, maybe i should just read tad more through this book rather than keep tinkering
<oni-on-ion> don't need to use 'open', really
<greenbagels> ok I think the problem is in my uh
<greenbagels> compile invocations
<oni-on-ion> hmm. have you played around with the repl at all?
<greenbagels> yeah i've been using utop some
<oni-on-ion> i think 'Command' module looks to be a part of jane street Core
<greenbagels> I'm... just going to see if dune can solve my problems
<oni-on-ion> where is Command from ? dune is a good idea.
<greenbagels> ok i have a fundamental misunderstanding of what's in the standard library and what's in jane street's libraries haha
<greenbagels> i think it's in jane street's core

<oni-on-ion> ok then need open Core =)
<oni-on-ion> yeh i was there too, got quite confused. i'm sticking with standard
<oni-on-ion> until i really need to move or change
<oni-on-ion> if i dont know the default one i won't be able to judge the alternatives clearly
<greenbagels> Yeah, that makes sense
<greenbagels> I'm most familiar with C and C++, so the whole stick-to-the-standard thing is pretty comfortable haha

<Serpent7776> learned about `opam switch create`. It lets me use newer compiler than my system have in packages. Cool

<reynir> Serpent7776: that's also recommended IMO if you run a rolling release distribution - then opam doesn't get confused when the system compiler changes under its feet :)

<Serpent7776> hmm, I should prob create separate switch for each project. Then I can safely update packages independently
<reynir> Serpent7776: what's cool is you can create a switch in a directory: opam switch create . 4.08.0 (if I remember correctly)
<Serpent7776> ye, that's what I did

<appleclusters> Noob question I just can't figure out. I'm trying to run this scheme interpreter via opam https://github.com/freehck/ocs and when I try `opam exec ocscm` I get no output, error, anything. When I run `ocscm` in my shell I get command not found. Can anyone reproduce this?
boredumb has quit [Quit: leaving]
<Serpent7776> dunno about opam exec, but if on unix you should exec it as `./ocscm` in your shell
<appleclusters> @Serpent7776 in what directory?
<appleclusters> I was able to get it to build manually by git clone and `make` in src/. But if I was installing via opam https://opam.ocaml.org/packages/ocs/ how would I run the binary?
