alyssa: haven't got to it yet, but in the meantime: guess we just want to figure out what is the mask that enables all the levels and what size has the polygon list in that case?

<sphalerite>
so I want to try the current state of panfrost out on my gru-bob chromebook, how can I do that? I've got a build of mesa with panfrost (and not much else) enabled, I figured es2_info would be a good start, but that fails, at least on X, with "eglGetDisplay() failed". Can I get a wayland compositor running with panfrost? If so, how? :)
<sphalerite>
s/not much else/not much else except for kmsro/
<anarsoul>
sphalerite: you also need recent kernel with panfrost driver in it
<sphalerite>
anarsoul: yep got that
<anarsoul>
is it probed?
<sphalerite>
[ 11.003923] [drm] Initialized panfrost 1.1.0 20180908 for ff9a0000.gpu on minor 1
<anarsoul>
check your Xorg.0.log
<alyssa>
all the big X and wayland compositors should work afaik
* alyssa
runs GNOME3 personally
<anarsoul>
I use plasma with X11
<anarsoul>
works fine
<sphalerite>
what am I looking for in the X log? Or should I just share it here?
<sphalerite>
hm, [ 3320.314] (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable
<sphalerite>
then it tries to load swrast which fails presumably because I didn't include it in my mesa build
<sphalerite>
is that the issue?
* robmur01_
adds another "out-of-the-box distro package just works" vote for GDM on Arch, using lazy ld.so.conf to play with newer mesa builds
<sphalerite>
:) well, I want to get support for panfrost in my distro working (which it isn't OOtB unfortunately) ^^

sphalerite: post full Xorg.0.log somewhere
<robmur01_>
Hmm, of course my board is nice and simple with only HDMI enabled; not sure what difference it makes to throw eDP into the mix as well
<sphalerite>
is the key being able to open /dev/dri/renderD128?
<sphalerite>
Setting an ACL on it to give my user access doesn't make a difference
<sphalerite>
(nor does adding my user to the render group, as I just discovered)
<sphalerite>
oh, plus both of those things are silly if that device is relevant, since it's a+rw
<sphalerite>
ooh, hmm, it seems there's another mesa build getting in the way here. I have a track to follow, I'll report back if I suddenly get everything working :D
<alyssa>
tomeu: I think (texture.format_unk2 & 0x100) does a=1 since we don't havea format swizzle
<sphalerite>
Got it working! Using the right mesa in all the places is helpful :)
<alyssa>
sphalerite: :)
<sphalerite>
thanks very much for the help! And kudos on the successful project and thanks for improving freedom to alyssa and everyone else involved!
<alyssa>

<thefloweringash>
sphalerite: for us following along at home, did you have to set hardware.opengl.package to a custom mesa build?
<thefloweringash>
I think there was a period that gdm just worked, but then it broke and I didn't get around to figuring out why
<thefloweringash>
(oh my gru-kevin, that is)
<sphalerite>
thefloweringash: I tried that and it turns out removing it is the way to go — 20.03's mesa includes panfrost and everything works fine in stock settings >_<
<HdkR>
alyssa is doing a lot of good work :D
<thefloweringash>
i updated, gdm just works again, shrug, :-)
