21:52 <icecream95> daniels: Having working OpenCL upstream is blocked on #4002 and !6064 <- dumb question probably, but anybody have an idea where I can find these issues? I get no results attempting to find them at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues
<macc24>
heddwch: !6064 is a MR. not sure why it was mentioned

does anyone here know what would pinning kevin's gpu to 800mhz result in battery life?
<macc24>
like how much?
<macc24>
from 100%: 1 minute? 10 minutes? 1 hour?
<br__>
macc24: I've fixed full-screen mode :) Apparently I have *at least* to clean the backed pages of GEM objects when pan_bo.c (userspace driver) getting them out of the cache using madvise PANFROST_MADV_WILLNEED ioctl
<alyssa>
br__: Depeneding what cleaning entails, that might be a Mesa bug...
<macc24>
br__: \o/
<macc24>
i may or may not be planning to get netbsd running on my kevin
<br__>
alyssa: I'm just zeroing the backed pages
<alyssa>
Yeah that... shouldn't be necessary assuming bug-free Mesa.
<br__>
ah
<macc24>
br__: my spidey sense tells me 'winsys'
<macc24>
if it works on linux
<alyssa>
But if the Linux driver does it, and there are no tests for not having it... bugs will slip in undetected.
<br__>
Linux does better thing. It releases all the pages back to OS on PANFROST_MADV_DONTNEED ioctl
<br__>
so cleaning is not needed
<macc24>
there's MR that rips out madvise
<macc24>
ohhhh, alyssa, i spottet those purging messages when there's high memory load
<br__>
new pages will be allocated and they are clean
<alyssa>
madvise in panfrost is.. controversial...
<alyssa>
macc24: Yeah, purging just means madvise is kicking in.
<macc24>
on my duet too, and that means... i am ready for testing :D
<alyssa>
It's not inherently good or bad.
<alyssa>
With the "rip out madvise" MR they won't show up since madvise will be disabled in userspace.
<alyssa>
stepri01: has some history here too...
<br__>
If we would have a rockchip IOMMU driver then madvise is not needed much, since pages are not contiguous so easy to find free
<br__>
(I see that some GEM objects exported from rockchip DRM and imported to panfrost DRM)
<heddwch>
What is a kevin? Not the most searchable name
<macc24>
heddwch: samsung chromebook plus v1, rk3399 laptop with a giant fucking screen
<heddwch>
aaah, thanks
<macc24>
(2400x1600)
<heddwch>
cool
<macc24>
no it's not, tbh i would rather have 1920x1200 in my kevin
<macc24>
or a fast bifrost gpu
<heddwch>
ah
<heddwch>
I'm planning on getting a pinebook pro, currently just have a rock pi 4c
<heddwch>
good to know I'm not missing out on too much due to budget limitations lol I agree; I use a Surface 3, 1920*1280 but only 10". HiDPI is more of a pain for me than it's worth
<macc24>
hidpi is super nice when gpu can drive it *cough* *cough* lenovo duet *cough* *cough*
<heddwch>
It's just pretty unimportant for me. Aside from software with hard minimums of 1024*768, I miss the 9" 1024*600 panels in acers
<heddwch>
I can't really fit more on a 10" screen just because it's higher DPI. Font scaling should be a non-issue, but that's not the world we live in unless I want to run GNOME or KDE with only 4GB RAM
