<zarvox> Does filedrop support static publishing? If not: what app do you/we recommend for that?
<zarvox> Oh, looks like Davros does. I'll do that instead.

<zarvox> Hmm. GitHub lists zarvox@users.noreply.github.com as one of my verified email addresses. I'm not totally convinced that belongs in my list of contact emails.
<zarvox> It's a little weird, but not harmful, I suppose.

<sprin> discussion here of attack on piwik's unsalted md5 passwords: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10697326
<sprin> mitigated by sandstorm
<sprin> the parent submission is "We ditched Google Analytics" (out of privacy concerns): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10696873
decipherstatic has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<sprin> I think the question posed by this submission and following comments is "How can I get secure site analytics without contributing to mass surveillance?"
<sprin> the general consensus seems to be that piwik's admin is not secure out of the box
<sprin> but with only the tracking API exported from sandstorm, I think the security proposition looks a lot better

<zarvox> sprin: and also a link from the app details page in Sandstorm, once you install the app! :)
<sprin> nice
<sprin> zarvox: curious, where is the .sandstorm config for piwik?
<zarvox> on the sandstorm branch: https://github.com/zarvox/piwik/tree/sandstorm
<zarvox> I just changed that to be the default branch on my repo, which should help the next curious person
<msoucy> :D I can switch from Thunderbird to sandstorm-powered apps! This will be very convenient.
bb010g has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<sprin> zarvox: ah, thanks!
<sprin> another bit of sandstorm-relevant news: http://www.didgoogleshutdown.com/
<sprin> when someone asks why they can't rely on google hosting their data/apps indefinitely. it's not just reader...
<msoucy> oof. I remember some of those existing...
<kentonv> there's definitely some false items on that site
<sprin> oh?
<kentonv> ChromeOS and Google+ are not dying. Those were media misinterpretations / speculation that Google denies.
<sprin> it's certainly not a complete list of google apps
<kentonv> gmail is not dying. Google started redirecting people who had signed up for Inbox to the Inbox UI when they open gmail, with the ability to disable this redirect. Media seems to be speculating from this that gmail is going away, but I don't see any evidence.
<sprin> my understanding was that inbox was fundamentally changing some privacy conditions
<kentonv> maybe. I haven't actually used inbox (but I do use gmail).
<kentonv> (actually I'm even signed up for inbox but never bothered to open it, just don't have time...)
<kentonv> and it's "possible" that Google plans to completely replace gmail with inbox -- but I don't think there's any evidence currently that that is their plan.
<kentonv> most of the rest of the things look right, though
<msoucy> Does the sandstorm.io RoundCube port allow me to hook it up to an existing imap account, instead of forwarding? I can't find the option
<kentonv> msoucy: sorry, it doesn't
<kentonv> in the future, probably. Our email support is admittedly sketchy right now.
<msoucy> aww...looks like I'm stuck with thunderbird for a little while longer then
<sprin> the didgoogleshutdown app actually looks pretty poor, I would not use it as a reference. no citations, anonymous author, no place to discuss status, closed source, etc.
<|jemc|> what's the best place to read more details about the planned features/mechanisms for the "Powerbox UI"?
<|jemc|> (the one mentioned briefly at the bottom of this blog post: https://blog.sandstorm.io/news/2015-06-10-network-access-permission-android-vs-sandstorm.html)
<msoucy> sprin: also doesn't quite describe some of the "dead" apps...
<sprin> yeah, it's a decent idea, one that I would like to see extended to *all* proprietary cloud apps, but the execution is terrible
<sprin> it comes across as a dodgy hit piece rather than user education

<dwrensha> ugh
xet7 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<dwrensha> so apparently libsodium force-pushed the stable branch
<dwrensha> now it's exactly the same as master
<dwrensha> this explains the test failure in https://github.com/sandstorm-io/sandstorm/pull/1258
<dwrensha> the same merge conflicts happened when I did `make update-deps` locally
M-hrjet has joined #sandstorm
funwhilelost has quit [Quit: My Mac has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<zarvox> stable is so stable!
<zarvox> so, the solution is to manually "cd deps/libsodium && git fetch origin && git reset --hard origin/stable" I guess?
M-eternaleye has joined #sandstorm
<zarvox> dwrensha: if you haven't clobbered your deps/libsodium yet, consider testing https://github.com/zarvox/sandstorm/commit/be2d5910a3a177eed3337b028d0f5b5ab1aa79f6
<dwrensha> I haven't clobbered it yet!
<zarvox> I'm about to make a PR and see if that makes Jenkins happy
<dwrensha> On branch stable
<dwrensha> Your branch and 'origin/stable' have diverged,
<dwrensha> and have 4 and 180 different commits each, respectively.
<dwrensha> Jenkins is already happy
<dwrensha> because jparyani manually clobbered its libsodium
<zarvox> oh ha so fast
<zarvox> it'll make a big scaryish warning about checking out FETCH_HEAD and being in a detached state
<zarvox> but the tree should be what you want it to be
<dwrensha> can you explain FETCH_HEAD to me?
<jparyani> :(. We should talk to the libsodium maintainer and ask him to not force push in the future...
<dwrensha> FETCH_HEAD points to what was most recently fetched?
<dwrensha> jparyani: yeah, I suspect that he did not appreciate the git-fu that would be required to maintain a stable branch
<jparyani> haha probably very true
<dwrensha> I'm not sure that I understand what git-fu he should have used
<jparyani> git merge i guess?
<jparyani> its weird that stable would have all these extra merge commits....but that's just the way it has to be i guess
<jparyani> if he's very careful, he could rebase onto, thus making sure it's fast-forward only
