<jdenz> Anyone know an easy way to delete users in a self-hosted Sandstorm instance? Am I missing something in the admin or documentation?
|jemc| has joined #sandstorm
<mnutt> it looks like the latest jessie64 box in vagrant removes guest additions and forces rsync, which doesn’t seem to work for vagrant-spk

<jdenz> For my question above, I should clarify that I'm asking about deleting/removing email users from Sandstorm on the 'admin/users' page, not users of a specific grain.

<mnutt> re: the failed syscalls, I eventually found that the upstream author had fixed it in a later version
<mnutt> ok, time for something totally crazy: https://fltxj4bvh7yfw337mr1v.mnutt.sandcats.io/gedit-0.0.0-dev.spk
<mnutt> have to wait for it a bit to load, and keyboard input is currently broken on chrome but working on firefox

<kentonv> mnutt: hah, Alexander Larsson once send us a GIMP spk presumably based on the same tech. It was buggy, though... maybe would be better today?
<kentonv> mnutt: hmm your gedit spk won't accept my keyboard input. Mouse works though.
<mnutt> kentonv: yeah, it looks like something broke in chrome. works in firefox, I’ll bet I could get it working.

<kentonv> does this work by compiling the whole app with emscripten or some such?
<kentonv> or does it run server-side?
<mnutt> it’s a bit unfortunate that broadwayd is packaged as part of gtk+ and not standalone, most of the bugs / quirks seem like things that could be fixed with some dev work
<mnutt> it runs server-side and uses a gtk backend that renders html5
<mnutt> (called broadway)
<kentonv> ah I guess that makes more sense
simonft has quit [Quit: leaving]
<kentonv> so it's probably laggy when not running locally, I suppose
<mnutt> pretty much solely developed by Alexander Larrson, I believe
<kentonv> looks like it's all canvas-based
<mnutt> some stuff is a bit laggy remotely, unfortunately
<kentonv> it would be pretty cool to put together a tool that can auto-package gtk apps.
<mnutt> well, varies from not laggy at all to extremely laggy.
<mnutt> yeah, it would. It requires gtk 3.18, so debian sid rather than jessie. (gtk 3.14 bundled with jessie has some bugs with trying to use shm and doesn’t work in sandstorm)

<dograt> Huh, interesting stuff. Had not heard of broadway.
<dograt> I guess it translates marshalls gdk calls to the browser and paints with canvas
<dograt> -translates
<dograt> using websockets

<mnutt> it unfortunately doesn’t seem to have any sort of multi-user mode. not sure how that would even work.
<XgF> mnutt: like screen sharing?
<kentonv> hmm I bet it would be easy to make work based on merging all users' keyboards / mice
<kentonv> not sure whether that would actually be useful, though. :)
<mnutt> haha yeah. making apps intended for single-user use multi-user may be a challenge
bb010g has joined #sandstorm
<dograt> Wouldn't it be analogous to an X display, which is single-user?

<mnutt> dograt: yeah, I just mean it’s hard to cross paradigms from single-user X app to a webapp, from a UX perspective. Sandstorm apps can sometimes be a bit more single-user, but still have multi-user edge cases.
<dograt> mnutt: OK, I see what you mean. I think broadway would be a VNC-window/iframe-in-a-webapp type deal rather than a webapp in and of itself
<dograt> With all the pitfalls entailed in making that into a multi-user webapp
<mnutt> yep. seems like things like inkscape and gimp could work well in that context, assuming lag isn’t too bad.
coyotebush has joined #sandstorm
<dograt> I guess it would be a decent remote display protocol for GTK apps where most of the graphics calls would be handled by cairo, since cairo and canvas probably match decently well
