<kuba-orlik> Hi! I cannot upload a profile picture to my sandstorm instance. I get the following error: "Upload failed: network". What can I do? :<
phoenix1796 has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<kentonv> kuba-orlik: That's strange. Can you take a screenshot of the error so we can see the context?
<kuba-orlik> kentonv: Could it be because I am behind a nginx reverse-proxy
<kuba-orlik> ok, I think it's because I don't have an SSL key for a "static" subdomain
<kentonv> kuba-orlik: Oh, yeah, you will need a wildcard SSL certificate to use Sandstorm.
<kuba-orlik> kentonv: it's a bummer... is there a way to make sandstorm use something like sandstorm.domain.tld/static instead of static.sandstorm.tld?
<kuba-orlik> kentonv: I wonder why does sandstorm insist on dynamic subdomains, what's the reasoning behind this?
<kentonv> kuba-orlik: it's not just for "static". The link above explains why we need it and answers FAQs.
<kuba-orlik> Thank you, I'll read through it
<kentonv> FWIW we issue free wildcard certs if you choose to use sandcats.io
<kuba-orlik> kentonv: Can I use sandcats.io wildcard certs if I want to run a separate http server on my vps? The default setup script does not seem to allow this
natea has joined #sandstorm
<kentonv> kuba-orlik: You can use "sniproxy" as a reverse proxy that delegates HTTPS connections to your existing web server or to Sandstorm based on the SNI info. Here's a doc someone wrote on that: https://xamar.sandcats.io/shared/Bqa9dftNbc1Ni06D-SgBdkFuM_iky8VHAlTw0Rk1lzN
<kuba-orlik> Thank you! You're really helpful :)
<kentonv> no problem! Thanks for trying out Sandstorm.

<kuba-orlik> If the domain name for each grain is changed each session, is it possible to run e.g. RadiCale with CalDAV sync? What address would I need to enter into the devices I want to sync it with?

<isd> Hey. So I'm having an issue with ethercalc where the actual grid part of the UI is just blank white; there are the tabs for the individual sheets, but the contents of the cheets are just not visible. Someone came in asking about the same problem a few weeks ago, which is when I noticed it, but never got around to dealing with it.
<dwrensha> isd: does that happen for you on all Ethercalc grains?
<isd> dwrensha: seems to happen with new ones; I only had one existing grain when the problem began.
<isd> (which is still having this problem)
<dwrensha> what browser?
<isd> wait, hang on
<isd> No, the new one eventually loaded
<isd> firefox
<isd> let me check chromium
<dwrensha> on oasis?
<dwrensha> (It seems to work for me)
<isd> dwrensha: no, isd.sandcats.io
<isd> haven't tried it elsewhere
<isd> and yeah, seems to be an issue with existing spreadsheets
<kentonv> Note that v0.181 had a bug that would cause the problem you describe. v0.182, released within hours, fixed it. This was all a couple weeks ago.
<kentonv> looks like you're on the latest version, though
<kentonv> I don't seem to be having any trouble opening Ethercalc in Chrome -- new or existing.
<isd> Yeah, it finally loaded in chromium, so seems to be at least somewhat browser-dependant
<isd> Fortunately there's nothing terribly sensitive there, so sharing it is workable.
<isd> Does that work in firefox for you two?
<kentonv> loads in chrome and firefox for me
<isd> Okay, so there's some problem with my browser's config then.
<isd> hrm.
<kentonv> anything on the JS console?
<isd> I should really get into the habit of checking that up front.
<isd> Nope.
<kentonv> how about the network trace?
<isd> Aha! it finally loaded
<isd> network was just 200s and 304s
<dwrensha> is dns slow?
<isd> Taking ~0.35 seconds to resolve a new *.isd.sandcats.io hostname for me
<isd> I'm going to set this aside for now and if the problem persists I may mess with it more later
