<Atzekraut>
u mena me asheesh? change the pc and got no history
<asheesh>
Yes, Atzekraut!
<asheesh>
Gotcha
<Atzekraut>
ok, great!
<asheesh>
There's a new version of the Sandstorm install script that changes the dependencies so that maybe your server can run Sandstorm.
<asheesh>
I'm honestly not sure.
<Atzekraut>
ok. starting my shell....
<asheesh>
If you're willing to try an experimental version and let me know if it works for you, then that will help me know, too!
<Atzekraut>
no problem.
<Atzekraut>
as root oder sudo user?
<Atzekraut>
as root or sudo user?
<asheesh>
Doesn't matter
<asheesh>
If it needs sudo, it'll ask you and then escalate to root.
<Atzekraut>
ok im here! root@host ~
<asheesh>
Great! Did you run the wget command yet? If not, do that.
<Atzekraut>
let us ungoogle my life ;)
<asheesh>
:D
<Atzekraut>
saving install.sh
<Atzekraut>
./install.sh , yes?
<asheesh>
I would say
<asheesh>
bash install.sh
<asheesh>
Since the file may not be marked as "executable", so ./install.sh might or might not work.
<Atzekraut>
ok ;) it seems to work

Great! Let me know how it proceeds. Does Sandstorm start properly?
<Atzekraut>
yes
<asheesh>
When your install succeeds, if you can give me two things - a screenshot of the Sandstorm server being online, and the name of the hosting company you're using - that would be hugely helpful to me.
<Atzekraut>
in the ural question. can i add a subdomain cert with letsencrypt
<mokomull>
asheesh: "rate limits" seems to be markdown-mangled there :P
<asheesh>
Oh, I can fix that, one sec.
<Atzekraut>
the domain i would like to use was setup with letsencrypt befor. i host owncloud in this. what to to?
<mokomull>
asheesh: :) good mornin'.
<Atzekraut>
in the sandstorm setup i can now used this subdomain?
<asheesh>
Atzekraut: Are you comfortable setting up a reverse proxy e.g. Apache or nginx?
<Atzekraut>
apache
<asheesh>
Cool. Then I would suggest you set up Sandstorm with the domain you want, but using port 6080 at first, and then make sure it works, and then follow https://docs.sandstorm.io/en/latest/administering/reverse-proxy/ to make the port number go away. But note that if you'll want HTTPS, you'll need a wildcard certificate.
<asheesh>
We can offer free of cost wildcard certificates for Sandstorm, but only if you use a something.sandcats.io domain name. If you're OK with that, then the easiest thing is probably to set up Sandstorm to use a sandcats.io subdomain right now.
<asheesh>
e.g. atzekraut.sandcats.io :)
<asheesh>
So if getting a wildcard cert will be a pain for you, then I suggest using a sandcats.io domain and adding HTTPS after the install finishes.
<Atzekraut>
Your server is coming online. Waiting up to 90 seconds.............................................................................................*** INSTALLATION FAILED ***
<Atzekraut>
Your server never started listening.
<asheesh>
Eek, yeah. It could be the case that there's problems related to the vServer.
<asheesh>
Can you look at /opt/sandstorm/var/log/sandstorm.log and see if anything strikes you in the last approx 20 lines of the file?

<zarvox>
The issue you're observing is actually GlobalSign being slow with setting up OCSP for newly-issued certificates.
<zarvox>
Firefox uses OCSP to check cert validity; Chrome does not.
<zarvox>
In any event, both browsers should work within 10-15 minutes or so.

thema: hi, and welcome to #sandstorm! feel free to ask any questions you may have, or voice any ideas, or just idle, if that's what you prefer! :D
<thema>
Thanks zarvox: I was wondering what is the most important platform to follow if I want to get a little insight on the sandstorm.io development and the app development? (I'm a computer science student but far away from claiming to be good at anything yet, specially not very good at programming, but I would like to follow the process and maybe contri

This page is interesting (context: https://auth.livepatch.canonical.com/ ) with regard to thinking about "Sandstorm" free users and "Sandstorm for Work" customers.

Thanks funwhilelost and zarvox. I've set up a sandstorm server for collaboration with other students on assignment/'homework' with gitlab and sharelatex and like it pretty much :) So I'm going to stick around in this channel and get to the other options later ;)

I was surprised by how easy it is to package a simple PHP app and have been working on some new apps to scratch some itches I have.
<funwhilelost>
In December I might have some time to package up some of these ready made ones. Odoo, Camlistore, and an HLedger replacement are at the top of my list.

thema: One pseudo-random tip: I find that in addition to ambient knowledge, the best way to learn about something is to ask questions when you see something you don't understand.
<funwhilelost>
Random thought: I think classrooms might find Sandstorm really awesome for conducting classes. There are at least a few SAML identity providers that would work, too.
<funwhilelost>
I did see Open EdX on the app committee list.
