i have a questionnnnn, preparing pictures
<ohsix>
http://i.imgur.com/U8lp3Mf.png i have this, and i want to cut into the model / have a work plane at the current camera view, i can't just draw a rectangle. i can draw in 3d but i'm geometry-dumb enough to not just do it
<whitequark>
it doesn't make sense to have a workplane at the current camera view because the camera view is far from the model, it doesn't come through it
<whitequark>
or rather the frustum encompasses the model or something like that
<ohsix>
yea i know that, but the result is similar
<ohsix>
right, with that projection it might as well be 'infinite'
<whitequark>
yup
<whitequark>
so, hm
<ohsix>
i modeled it really bad / quickly to show someone something, it is just a cube with a subtracted rect on each face
<ohsix>
i could put a workplane onthe inner cube but there'd be a compound angle they'd meet
<whitequark>
can't you just take the three vertexes that form an equilateral triangle
<whitequark>
and put a workplane on it?
<ohsix>
i tried that
<ohsix>
hm, i didn't try it on the inner cube though
<whitequark>
oh, right, that won't do
<ohsix>
the first thing i did was similar to that, drew in 3d to get a reference at bottom, front corner
<ohsix>
i hadn't even thought of just looking for a geometric thing haha, i was like 'oh i could ask someone!' :D
<ohsix>
i'll have to read that, i had a false start that looks similar
<ohsix>
k i'm on irc on a weird computer and it's bugging me, bbl
<whitequark>
it's really really simple
<whitequark>
cut a few adjacent edges in half, pass two lines through that, maybe use a center of the cube for the workplane origin (or don't)
<ohsix>
i've kind of been conscripted to operate the 3d printer, solvespace has been great for making test parts so i can learn about the plastic & printer properties
<ohsix>
the '3d printer guys' i spoke to don't really seem to know or care about the materials and stuff that much, they're like, print and reprint until it is right; but you can know the shrinkage and shit of the material you use most of the time :D
