working with a galaxy tab 2 10.1. it was bricked by an update and was unmodded at the time. it is unresponsive and simply flashes samsung. it wont recognize the usb port so the simpler methods of install are out. It does have an extSD. recommendations for where to start?

I23verend: does it go to download mode?
I23verend has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<frankdrey>
:/
<frankdrey>
Looks like I'm too late
<frankdrey>
Shame, I know that tab
<frankdrey>
Speaking of which, installed CM11 on it for my parents
<frankdrey>
CM has seriously gone to shit
<frankdrey>
4.4 is supposed to be faster :(
<frankdrey>
But I guess they're too busy working on CM account or some shit to fix system bugs
<frankdrey>
*angry*
* frankdrey
should start a project that provides device trees for pure AOSP
<frankdrey>
What CM was basically 4.0-4.3
<akfaew>
is a typical compilation of cm supposed to spew out literally thousands of various warnings?
<akfaew>
i keep trying to compile cm for i9070 but it's full of bugs i need to overcome
<jomp16>
frankdrey, finnaly, you say CM is a * shit *
<akfaew>
i'm wondering if official cm is the same
<jomp16>
better is pure AOSP!
<frankdrey>
akfaew, sounds about right from my experience :p
<frankdrey>
jomp16, hush, cm used to be great :p
<jomp16>
frankdrey, I know
<jomp16>
Good ol' CM7
<frankdrey>
I liked 6, 10, 10.1 best
<jomp16>
and CM7?
<jomp16>
alright, your old Nexus got every CM version
<frankdrey>
It has 7-11
<frankdrey>
My G1 ran CM6
<jomp16>
My G5 ran CM7
<jomp16>
And it has 11, but, not very usable
<frankdrey>
Nexus S cm11 is unusable
<frankdrey>
But AOSP 4.4 is better than any other
<frankdrey>
Better than 2.3 :p
I23verend has joined #teamhacksung-support
<jomp16>
AOSP is godness
<jomp16>
most close to AOSP is Google Stock
<jomp16>
(just remove uneeded apks, deodex it, and that all)
<frankdrey>
l23verend, download mode?
<I23verend>
i have a gt-p5113 that is unable to progress beyond loading the os screen and as such the usb wont identify on win8. oding says it sees it and says it succeeded in putting a new cwm rom on the tablet but it fails on reboot and goes back to its old ways and will still only boot into stock recovery. any ideas?
<jomp16>
I23verend, download mode, as frankdrey told
<jomp16>
you can access?
<jomp16>
(god dammit Android, by blocking logcat without allowing)
<I23verend>
i can access download mode but it still doesnt idenitfy
<jomp16>
frankdrey, probably samsung USB drivers?
<frankdrey>
l23verend, so Odin/heimdall flashes cwm?
<frankdrey>
Make sure it doesn't auto reboot
<frankdrey>
And when its done:
<frankdrey>
1. Hold vol down + power
<frankdrey>
Wait for it to turn on and then keep waiting until it turns off again
<frankdrey>
Second time it turns on, wait a second and let go of power
<frankdrey>
Keep holding vol down
<frankdrey>
The trick is you cant let it even try booting stock ROM or it'll flash stock recovery
<frankdrey>
Because it sounds like as broken as it is, its still flashing
<I23verend>
i downloaded kies and it still not idenitifed via usb. i used odin with out auto boot checked. will attempt again using your steps. the file i am attemping to flash is a cwm image that was converted to a .md5 for use in odin.
<frankdrey>
Kies sucks you don't neef it
<frankdrey>
Yeah try it
<jomp16>
*cough* Heindall *cough*
<jomp16>
flashed like in less than 1 minutes on my tab
<I23verend>
it says reset in blue for a min or 2 then it says pass after 2:03
<I23verend>
followed the instruction and made sure it never loaded the flashing samsung screen. loaded into recovery and shows to be the same as before
<I23verend>
maybe i am using the wrong file

Probably
<frankdrey>
Get the IMG from clockworkmod.com/rommanager
<frankdrey>
And use heimdall to flash
<I23verend>
i have heimdall up and running and have the file from cwm. but heimdall is asking for a tar.gz and the file is .tar.
<frankdrey>
Use command line heimdall not hui
<frankdrey>
Gui
<frankdrey>
There's good instructions on wiki.cyanogenmod.org

yeah got the cwm on it and going through the install of cyanogen no
<I23verend>
now
<I23verend>
the problem was the cwm not taking and being over written
<I23verend>
thanks for the help
<frankdrey>
Yup np
<jomp16>
heimdall ftw!
<jomp16>
more powerful, of course is fastboot

i changed ro.product.device=janicep in my installed system in /system/build.prop, but the installer still sees ro.product.device=janice (getprop("ro.product.device")) - where do i need to change this?
<jomp16>
akfaew, if you is trying to flash a zip, either change build.prop to janicep inside that zip, or change recovery to janicep version
<jomp16>
Are you sure janicep works for your janice? i.e, no issues, bootloop, no radio, etc
<akfaew>
ah recovery
<akfaew>
yes, this actually is a janicep. i flashed a janice before (works fine, except for the modem, which is fixed by copying over the tee binary)
<akfaew>
modem = telephony
<jomp16>
I know
<jomp16>
also known by radio, or baseband
<akfaew>
which partition does recovery reside in?
<jomp16>
you can't mod recovery, but, you can flash a janicep img version
<jomp16>
assuming samsung, flash janicep version with heimdall
<akfaew>
btw, do you know why radio doesn't work between these nearly identical devices?
<akfaew>
ok, it will be easier to just remove the assert
<jomp16>
Samsung I9070 Galaxy S Advance ?
<akfaew>
yes
<akfaew>
the 'tee' from i9070 does not provide radio for i9070p
<akfaew>
i'm wondering why
<jomp16>
janicep == Samsung I9070 Galaxy S Advance with NFC?
<akfaew>
yes
<akfaew>
is NFS inside the radio component?
<akfaew>
is NFC inside the radio component?
<jomp16>
how hard is flashing a janicep recovery version?
<jomp16>
or they don't exists?
<akfaew>
i have no idea, i'm using cm for under a week
<akfaew>
just finished compiling it for the first time
<jomp16>
alright, if you're pretty sure janice recovery will work for janicep (i.e, correct partitions path), then you can remove assert prop in build.prop in your zip
<jomp16>
if you built the janicep vesion, you can find a CWM image (recovery.img) at $OUT dir
<akfaew>
i'm sure, because my phone now runs on a janice version
<jomp16>
remove assert(something) in your zip, repackage, flash, wipe everything, done
<akfaew>
CWM recovery is from recovery.img? not from boot.img?
<jomp16>
not sure
<jomp16>
some phones, recovery is at same img (boot.img)
<jomp16>
like SII
<jomp16>
Not sure about your device
<jomp16>
most devices has a own recovery partition
<jomp16>
SII is the most known device which doesn't have one
<akfaew>
i flashed the new boot.img using Universal Kernel Flasher by frapeti, this seems to have done the trick, it's installing
<jomp16>
akfaew, your device won't have the recovery partition?
<akfaew>
it probably has
<akfaew>
hey, it's working
<akfaew>
my custom built cm
<akfaew>
three days well spent
<frankdrey>
Nice
<frankdrey>
BTW what are your PC specs?
<jomp16>
frankdrey, better than your PC and mine?
<akfaew>
AMD FX-8150 3.6GHz (8 cores), 8GB ram, 4 SSD disks (used 2 for the compilation)
<akfaew>
it's shitty ram though
<jomp16>
frankdrey, I told ya
<akfaew>
i made CCACHE on the second SSD. I think setting $OUT to the second SSD might speed things up as well?
