<Lord_Nightmare> whitequark: i just finished desoldering the mcu and the ym2413
<Lord_Nightmare> whitequark: can you pm me where i should send this?
<Lord_Nightmare> Foone_: if you want to go down the rabbit hole, the gv-usb2 device uses the same chipset as a different device which is supported by V4L, but I have no idea if the gv-usb2 can be convinced to work with the same kernel driver or if it will take some hacking to make it work
<Lord_Nightmare> i believe gv-usb2 is a h.263 encoder on a chip, which uses some format which has to be messed around with a bit (maybe ffmpeg can help with this) to be played back as a h.263 avi etc
<Foone_> yeah, I'm definitely not doing that. buying one stupid device was my limit, I think
<Foone_> I'm just gonna yell at these existing ones until I can get them to work
<TD-Linux> that sounds super gross
<whitequark> Lord_Nightmare: ok, in a bit, i'm having a really bad day so please ping me again if i forget

<Lord_Nightmare> gv-usb2 is supposed to be one of the better low cost usb2.0 240p/480i capture devices though
<Lord_Nightmare> lots of people use them for snes streaming since they do really nice s-video capture
<Lord_Nightmare> i have one, though i'm planning to use it for digitizing videotapes
<Lord_Nightmare> also i don't know what 'messing around a bit' means with regards to the h.263 stream the gv-usb2 does, it may just need a RIFF header slapped on and that's it
<Lord_Nightmare> i'd also LOVE it of the gv-usb2 had good support in linux...
<balrog> Lord_Nightmare: you're following the VHS related work around #domesday86?
<cr1901_modern> domesday86 is the laserdisc preservation project IIRC?
<Wohali> yes
<Lord_Nightmare> balrog: not this sec, i'll take a look
