yup, that would be almost mission impossible to try and replace the N900 genuine AV jack component by anything else

thinks that it will require complicated software, between 3-pole, 4-pole, and 5-pole plugs; microphones, speakers, microphone+speakers, and video out. Compatibility is important, and 5-pole thingies seem to not work in 4-pole devices.

actually you also could turn the Neo900 into a USB-"soundcard" and attach it to a USB host. Idea being that it shows up as 2 input channels then which actually cary the stereo-out from your Neo900 to host. Make that 4 virtual channels and <you can have stereo-mic-out on USB as well

the deadline for comments on FCC's wifi changes is october 9 apparently, and their form has a drop-down that allows you to choose european countries. not sure if thats just an oversight or they actually accept comments from europe too

Psykus: N900 kbd? it consists of a keymat that evidently show wear&tear after 2 years of intensive usage (replacements available for ~ 15 bucks, but dwindling supply), and the domesheet with the clickdisks that usually works a lot longer (replacements available in numbers up to 5 per week, with 4 weeks lead time, from Nokia repair shops. 20 bucks) We will probably produce the latter ourselves for Neo900
