DocScrutinizer05: now back to work, finish your awesome gadget :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
will do :-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
just convinced another user to get a second one preordered ;-D
<DocScrutinizer05>
thanks to the awesome dual SIM slot which also works as smartcard reader (and more)
<Wizzup>
I need to check the monies, but I think it is doable :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
wish we could get SDR, but it's not really ready for primetime yet, in power-striving embedded
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, we have some SDR of sorts in NFC, thanks to wpwrak's awesome work
<DocScrutinizer05>
not a generic SDR though, only for one frequency
<DocScrutinizer05>
actually it's rather a hypersmart NFC than a SDR
<FIQ>
SDR? radio?
<DocScrutinizer05>
yep
<FIQ>
ah
<DocScrutinizer05>
I just met x29a in a channel for rad1o (SDR gadget that came with cccamp ticket)
<FIQ>
ah
<DocScrutinizer05>
also see 'hackrf'
<DocScrutinizer05>
this is such an awesome device
<DocScrutinizer05>
basically arbitrary signals RX/TX in a range 50-6000MHz
<DocScrutinizer05>
alas we couldn't get cert for such a device, *ever* ;-D
<FIQ>
Heh
<FIQ>
glhf with that cert
<DocScrutinizer05>
:-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
hackrf/rad1o is power greedy, huge, and expensive. No way to get such stuff into a Neo900 this year or next 2
<DocScrutinizer05>
however see xes_' awesome work regarding RTL-SDR and N900
<DocScrutinizer05>
RTL-SDR is still power greedy but rather small and not really expensive (devices start at 15 bucks)
<DocScrutinizer05>
one downside of all SDR: you need a beefy CPU to process the signal in ... tadaa S_oftware (D_efined R_adio), and _that_ will always be power greedy no matter what, unless you use specialized chips. And then it's again the end of S_D_
<DocScrutinizer05>
rtl2832 based USB dongles have specialized 'CPU' to decode DVB-T but they have an option to get the raw I/Q signals via A/D and USB out of the stick. That's how all SDR works: digitize I/Q (the real and 90° shifted signal of IF) and then process those on a CPU by sw defined algo

(awesome dual SIM slot which also works as smartcard reader (and more)) I have mentioned to local transport authority that they should produce their transport card in SIM form-factor, for NFC-enabled phones. No response, so far
