<brendafdez>
just checkes the thread on maemo forum, sad to know you're still dealing with the issue.

brendafdez: many thanks for this link. Yeah, that's exactly how PP acts
<DocScrutinizer05>
glad to read again that there's obviously a time limit of 180d aka 6 months for how long they can freeze funds. We already passed that period, so it's only about informing PP about the fact and make them act according to their own words and ToS

wpwrak: I wonder basically what's worth researching to help with desireability of ordering
<enyc>
wpwrak: above just... not enough know about the project
<DocScrutinizer05>
drathir: we don't use the twl4030 audio section
<DocScrutinizer05>
not because I think the integration of audio and power in one chip would be particularly troublesome, but simply to stay compatible with fremantle(N900
<wpwrak>
enyc: hmm, research ... i guess one thing could be to describe the project to people who might vaguely be interested and see what points they react to and what doesn't interest them. that could help to keep the message focused.
<DocScrutinizer05>
no idea why Nokia decided to not use the twl4030 audio. Maybe because of only 48kHz max sampling frequency for ADC
<DocScrutinizer05>
(focused msg) yep, very good approach

wpwrak: i do wonder what sort of steys-to-comprleciton // looking like will definitely complete/succeed in some sense.... would be needed
<wpwrak>
my parser segfaulted at "steys-to-comprleciton" :)
<enyc>
err steps-to-completion
<enyc>
to functional product and some sort of usable software
<enyc>
you dorn't want to appear like it may 'fail'
<wpwrak>
heh, you'd be surprised how difficult that is :)
<wpwrak>
look at the campaign, then the comments, from the beginning. then, days later, the updates.
<wpwrak>
so the bar is *really* low as long as you're just promising something people want to believe in. in our case, we have of course the not so small issue of a rather high price tag. that may complicate things. i'm actually curious about this ;)
<enyc>
wp
<enyc>
oops
<enyc>
wpwrak: in this case project been more open about development and details and a different sort of target market, i think
<wpwrak>
(i.e., i haven't looked at any KS campaign that had a high price tag but was for a reasonably mainstream item. i've seen failed big ticket campaigns that were way out in crazy land, but they may not be a representative reference for our case)
<enyc>
wpwrak: i stil wonder if it helps/not to clearly define a list of tasks needed now to complete project, able to demonstrate how far its' come // how close to the end
<edwin>
is this still accurate? http://neo900.org/static/plan.png if someone looks at the 'we are here' it'd look like the project isn't near halfway done
<wpwrak>
yes, a timeline should be part of the campaign. that's not only a good idea in general, but it seems to be considered standard practice for campaigns anyway
<enyc>
wpwrak: i suspect alos just usefor for internal projct manlement to clearly define what else needs doing
<edwin>
perhaps the progress bar should be rescaled
<enyc>
and/or that timeline doesn't sohw so obivously design work et.c which is huuuge part of it
<wpwrak>
maybe getting rid of the payment information would make it clearer. well, or maybe keep it but make another one with just technical progress.
<edwin>
yeah I think the timeline currently shows progress in number of completed milestones, not physical time spent / expected to be spent on various things

wpwrak: imho definitely (try) to create a technical timeline even just text list at first
<enyc>
wpwrak: then this will help to make clearer
<wpwrak>
yes, sounds like a good idea. thanks ! i already have some picture forming in my mind ...
<ravelo>
would be nice to have a list of tasks in which the community could help
<ravelo>
there might be some that want to support the project by helping out as volunteer in easy tasks...

((timeline)) yes, there's obviously missing any dimension showing magnitudes like "after 6 months of searching we found a RAM chip of 1GByte for OMAP3, something that to our best knowledge been done only once before in history: on Nokia N9 - and after another 6 months we have tested the chip, found it works (we booted linux with 1GB of available memory) and secured a 500+ pcs, with option for some more if we need"

<DocScrutinizer05>
or "of the (random number) 59 core components, all 59 are 99% determined now, and integrated into the complete circuit"
<DocScrutinizer05>
this means we've selected 59 components, searched and found and read 59 * N documents to make sure the component is what we need, checked 59 times multiple sources for purchasing them, calculated 59 times the BOM cost. Now we need to: place those 59 core components plus a 400 (another random number) small birdseed on a PCB, do the copper trace routing, build it and bring it up to show it off
<DocScrutinizer05>
from this POV, we're almost there, eh? :-)

:D
<DocScrutinizer05>
oh, what I forgot: during picking 59 core components, we evaluated maybe another 120 and eventually during the 120*N docs-searching&reading, 120 times source&availability checking. considered them a misfit and wrote off the invested time to "nice experience" account
<enyc>
wpwrak: ^^ start collecting notes !!
<DocScrutinizer05>
big comapnies like e.g. Nokia streamline that whole process by agents of chip manufs visiting them and doing a lot of evaluation/selection of best fitting component for them, then they simply build a prototype and see if it works. If not, so what, let's build a better one. A relatively quick but expensive process
<wpwrak>
enyc: yes, sir ! actually, i let my secretary do that, the logging function of xchat :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
one general note: during the last 12 months, more than 2/3 of my time got 'wasted' on stuff like tax declarations, bank account fraudulent withdrawal rollbacks, talks witjh lawyers, lots and lots ad nauseum of PP battles, organizing an event which didn't payback in publicity as much as I hoped it would, and a 5 dozen other things I already managed to move over to Sigmund Freud's /dev/null
