DocScrutinizer05: nnnope - not pipe dream: live *right now* and on target if steady-projections continue to reach the crowd-funding target
<lkcl>
DocScrutinizer05: :)
<lkcl>
arossdotme kindly pointed out that in the huge rush to get set up i'd forgotten to update the web site - doh! but thanks to this being a libre project, he _was_ able to remind me

wpwrak: certainly is... past 5 years spent making *absolutely* sure that the standard will pass the test of time (over a decade), and being 100% confident that the hardware will work in prototype form *without* needing massive (eco-hostile) investment. got there... :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
edwin: OHNOES! that comes as by complete surprise
<edwin>
lkcl: congrats on the launch, did you have an irc channel for your device? I think I was on it a while ago but forgot the name
<lkcl>
wpwrak: oh, btw, i've found an SoC that will go into CompactFlash-style form-factor and won't cost a fortune or require NDAs. so on my TODO list is to create an upgradeable smartphone by re-using CF cards to house a complete computer... Phonebloks but done OPENLY and WITHOUT PATENTS
<lkcl>
edwin: thx! it's arm-netbook - i know it's not the best name - been very quiet recently but that will change
<wpwrak>
lkcl: you could target the hp200lx market. that critter had a whole PCMCIA slot ;-)
<wpwrak>
lkcl: or the zaurus line, they had CF
<wpwrak>
but 200LX would be cooler, much more retro
<lkcl>
wpwrak: looked that up: it looks niiiice. very similar to the skytone alpha 400 in fact they look suspiciously similar, hmmm... :)
<wpwrak>
those HP (100LX and 200LX) where great. excellent keyboard. and an agenda that actually let you have an overview. a lost art, it seems
<DocScrutinizer05>
best keyboard ever

edwin: "Google reads your email"
<DocScrutinizer05>
edwin: "Google archives *all* websearches you ever did, incl which hits you clicked on, and how fast and in which sequence, and how long you stayed on that site"
<edwin>
no suprises there
<edwin>
can't say I'm much surprised by the phone/SMS metadata either
<DocScrutinizer05>
I would've been surprised by "not it's proven: Googel does NOT spy on your calls and SMS"
<DocScrutinizer05>
s/not/now/
<pigeons>
some people will comment with remarks like that. and "well i just disable search history or delete or something and surely that makes it all go away"
<pigeons>
actually that site, HN lately i see, "well how do you expect them to get useuful analytic to make the service better for you, and are you a communist or something, do you hate people earning a living"?
<wpwrak>
faith. unwavering faith makes it go away.
<pigeons>
lol at the "they dont say they use it, just that they might and can"
<wpwrak>
so you're getting that newsletter, too :-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
sure! :D
<Arch-TK>
DocScrutinizer05: By the way, ignore that message on my order, I'm not sure if I wan to switch to getting a Neo900 over a NeoN yet
<Arch-TK>
But do tell me, if you can, when it's about to be too late to switch.
<DocScrutinizer05>
Arch-TK: don't worry, nothing that can't get simply chosen in final order

someone in that link brought up neo900 and with no irony someone else replied that blackphone would fit the bill

step 1: pick your preferred solution. step 2: define requirements. step 3: if solution meets requirement, celebrate success and call it a day. step 4: change requirements. go back to step 3.

pigeons: If you're not aware of the problems, they don't exist.
<pigeons>
yeah i had a hackerspace advocating for a bunch of raspberry pi projects because "open source hardware" at the time you couldnt even boot the things without a binary blob
illwieckz has joined #neo900
<wpwrak>
pigeons: has that changed ? i've read that the rpi3 (?) uses a BCM chip because the IV (?) graphics engine is nicely documented. is that true ? and does this mean that they've also overcome that "closed boot" issue ?
<pigeons>
wpwrak: i don't know. i complained about it recently and someone told me i was wrong, but i didnt look into it

if you don't buy apple, then you don't need to repair apple products. very simple :)
<Arch-TK>
Well, you can still repair apple products for _other_ people.
<DocScrutinizer05>
12 min? tl;dr
<Arch-TK>
DocScrutinizer05: the video isn't all that important, the guy does videos on component level motherboard repair of apple laptops, he also shows on video lots of apple's schematics and boardviews, probably apple doesn't like him for that.
<Arch-TK>
the video basically means: "I am getting sued, I can't tell you anything about it but I would highly recommend downloading some or all of my videos because they are likely to be taken down tomorrow."

iirc I heard of (C) disputes of a portrait photo that been taken in front of a display that shown the architecture of a new CPU
<DocScrutinizer05>
the dispute was not by the guy who been portrayed but by the company holding the (C) of that display
<DocScrutinizer05>
you mustn't even snapshot or video the Eiffel tower at night, since the lightshow is (C)
<DocScrutinizer05>
which is ROTFL
<wpwrak>
our last hope is that religious zealots take over. all is god's creation -> no copyright, no patents.
<DocScrutinizer05>
no rights to make any photos ;-P
<DocScrutinizer05>
no pictures at all
<wpwrak>
okay, that's the other zealots :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
as usual they exaggerated terribly, getting the rule of not making pictures of God completely wrong
<wpwrak>
"if god had wanted us to have computers, he had made our brains of silicon"
<DocScrutinizer05>
seems pretty close to their line of rationale
<wpwrak>
and before you know it, you're friends with green extremists, too ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
hm?
<wpwrak>
so i guess we're destined to be outlaws, no matter what
