ahycka has just gotten access to a new i7 laptop, 16gb of ram, and all that
<ceene>
it's only lacking ssd
<ceene>
but it's a freaking monster that thing
<ceene>
that's one small step ahead of neo900 routing
<ceene>
we only had small netbooks at home

<fawick>
hi
<DocScrutinizer05>
hi
<fawick>
who would be the correct person to talk to with regard to an open Neo900 purchase (down payment paid a year ago), which I would like to cancel?
<DocScrutinizer05>
that's me. We used downpayments to source components and do R&D, so a refund is not possible
<DocScrutinizer05>
I'm very sorry about that
<fawick>
a) you might want to add a hint on the website for that
<fawick>
and you just answered b) before i could raise the question - where to find terms and conditions. thx.
<fawick>
are you in the state of "total or partial failure"?
<DocScrutinizer05>
we hope not :-)
<fawick>
so point 6) of the terms and conditions does not apply
<DocScrutinizer05>
Nikolaus leaving for layout was a massive impact but we are just recovering from that and it looks very promising
<fawick>
if point 6) does not apply, I fail to identify which entry of the terms and conditions prohibits a refund
<DocScrutinizer05>
fawick: we just migrate from eagle to KiCAD and resulting from that, a way more "Open Hardware" compliant character of the whole project
<fawick>
i do not understand that last statement
<fawick>
DocScrutinizer05: so, besides point 6 -- for which you stated it was not applicable here -- would you kindly tell me why the legal situation voids my rights to a refund when stepping back from the contract?
<hellekin>
fawick: Eagle is proprietary software, KiCAD is free software. So the latter is more appropriate for free hardware projects, given the ethical alignment.
<ShadowJK>
ceene, which i7 cpu? :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
the legal situation is like: we ordered goods and did work in your name and at your order, and thus we can't refund. This is the normal situation for services already partially accomplished and goods built to order
<fawick>
okay, thanks for clarifying your position
<DocScrutinizer05>
aside from that we offer refund at the time of shipment, when we have a final balance of expense and income, so we can calculate how much of your down payment been used by R&D and how much we can refund due to tzhe fact you don't want the material goods we sourced for you
<DocScrutinizer05>
anyway please send a mail to settle this amicably, we don't like disgruntled users

Don't worry, I'm not disgruntled, just sad. After I authorized the down payment in Aug 2015 I never received any mailing about the status of the project.

<DocScrutinizer05>
we don't follow or insist in "the legal situation", we try to do the right thing we can do and seems fair to all who are involved in this project
<fawick>
and I feared that there was no progress
<fawick>
and recently I learned about the Pyra and thought I'd rather get one of these instead of the Neo900

yes, the lack of newsletters is a BIG flaw we are just discussing a zillion'th time with some supporters
<DocScrutinizer05>
Pyra is a nice device. Nikolaus built it, we helped a little by providing some details we developed for Neo900. alas Nikolaus "was eaten" by Pyra project completely
<fawick>
I sent a message with my inquire via the website two days ago and did not receive an answer.
<DocScrutinizer05>
sorry for the delay in mail answer, very busy times since 7 days
<fawick>
well, in that case special thanks for addressing my issue here in IRC.
<fawick>
what is your current estimate for the time of shipment?

<DocScrutinizer05>
we have no deadline, we try to gain pace again after the issue of layout workflow and procedure going down the sewer and we almost accomplished migration to KiCAD now, so we're basically weher we been 6 momths ago, sad but true. On the bright side we got KiCAD now, and new propspective layoutrers capable of doing the job thanks to this
<fawick>
well, I guess all I can do for now is sit back and wait patiently and revise my options again when you are ready for shipment?

DocScrutinizer05: btw -- fwiw i've had little trouble setting up a devuan desktop and transferring copies of key mail/ssh/otherwise configs from and old deb based OS variant -- really starting to see this worthwhile, got rid of loads 'of 'mess' but can still access my own stuff, launch old browser chroot as needbe, etc etc =)
<enyc>
had a lot of nonsense with nvidia/nouveau multi-head but got there in the end [!]

enyc: is Debian not compatible anymore with chrooted browsers???
<enyc>
hellekin: oh it is, just my old version was outdahed and being increasing pain//mess ;p
<enyc>
i was putting up with more and more and more niggles
<hellekin>
:]
<DocScrutinizer51>
devuan feels good
<hellekin>
talalala
<DocScrutinizer51>
recently I had to migrate my private server (8yo, centos5 iirc). Migrated to debian, pondering to go devuan instead

ShadowJK: i can't tell from memory, sorry, a 6th gen one
<ceene>
it's an asus gaming laptop... 17.something" and red lights coming out of the keyboard :D
<ceene>
i hope the can be switched off
<ceene>
*they
<ceene>
last saturday i had in my hands a Fairphone2
<ceene>
and got to disassemble it a bit
<ceene>
this particular device had trouble recognizing left edge screen presses, so it was difficult to type q.a.z
<ceene>
it also believed it didn't have a frontcamera installed, but it certainly was
<ceene>
it looked great, though, and the modularity was pretty cool
<ShadowJK>
ceene, the keyboards tend to be configurable atleast under windows
<ceene>
i hope so
<ceene>
this laptop will be used mainly for altium
<ceene>
so wiindows 10 it is
<ShadowJK>
My MSI gaming laptop can even be set to use keyboard LEDs as spectrum bargraph for whatever audio is currently playing
<ceene>
it's just a gamers pc because the dipshit head we have as a boss wanted to buy a dell... which costed twice as much with half as much power so we found this thing on a local seller
<DocScrutinizer05>
you might want a VM with linux, for KiCAD. I dunno how good KiCAD actually works under windows
<ceene>
that sounds as useless as cool :D
<ceene>
DocScrutinizer05: a few gigs partition will be reserved for linux
<DocScrutinizer05>
:-)
<ceene>
20 gigs ought to be enough for everyone - me, 2016
<ShadowJK>
I'm repeatedly surprised lately by how many good quality open source software from linux origins is turning up on "normal" people's windows machines
<ceene>
yes, most of the time they don't even know what they're running
<ceene>
some of them i think even believe they've downloaded a pirate version of firefox :D
<ShadowJK>
Some KDE apps seem to work better on Windows 10 than they did natively in KDE the last time I tried to run KDE :D
<ceene>
kolourpaint on windows is so much better than mspaint
<ShadowJK>
My gf uses krita with a tablet and dual monitors, and it even works. I was shocked and surprised when I found out it was kde software :-)
<ceene>
what is krita?
<ShadowJK>
Painting
<ceene>
oh!
<ceene>
i only use kolourpaint to retouch screenshots

wpwrak: so is the git clone http://*ee* issue sorted by now?
<hellekin>
DocScrutinizer05: partially. We found the problem, fixed it, and documented it, but there's another option I need to check to remove the need for manual configuration.
