Folks, please advice command inputs for signal strength bash script for wireless device
Aylax has joined #qi-hardware
<xiangfu>
ankitb, sudo iwconfig 2>&1 | grep Signal ?
<ankitb>
I had tried this its giving output for wireless acess points, Not for USB modems or mobile phone used as modem to connect net

xiangfu: I had tried this its giving output for wireless acess points, Not for USB modems or mobile phone used as modem to connect net

i tried AT & AT+CSQ
<xiangfu>
ankitb, oh. don't know much about modem.

kristianpaul: backlog isn't recorded when the client is offline, is it?
<wolfspraul>
wpwrak - I had 2 more questions related to the expansion boards, most likely both are just for the record/documentation/faq as well ;-)
<wolfspraul>
the first one is whether an expansion card can access the conbus/wishbone. the second one whether it can access the sdram directly.
<Ayla>
any experts out there?
<Ayla>
any *ARM* experts out there?
<Ayla>
I'm wondering if this ARM instruction is possible:
<Ayla>
stmfd r1, {r0-r2}
<ankitb>
Folks, please advice command inputs for signal strength bash script for mobile and USB devices
<roh>
stop it.
<roh>
ankitb: there IS NO generic way for this.
<roh>
its device dependant
<roh>
and the values while not connected are usually a lie. so ignore them
<roh>
while conneted the serial is in use so you cannot poll it.
<Ayla>
response to myself: yes it is
wej has joined #qi-hardware
<ankitb>
Can i mean that..there is no way to find out the signal Str ??? and when it is no connected then AT+CSQ command respond some values
xiangfu has joined #qi-hardware
<roh>
maybe you should ask the vendor of your device
<roh>
there are many possibilities. to many for a generic script which works with more than one hardware
<ankitb>
The common thing that i have observed from different vendors site & mannual is all of them respond to AT commands
<kristianpaul>
wolfspraul: whitequark MAX2769
<kristianpaul>
is better option
<kristianpaul>
so i cant work with both gps and glonass and and why not other gnss
<kristianpaul>
s/cant/can
<qi-bot>
kristianpaul meant: "so i can work with both gps and glonass and and why not other gnss "
<roh>
ankitb: and thats about it. none of the devices adheres to a common set. especially in the mobile market
<ankitb>
So If you can help me with writing AT commands through bash script it would be great help
<roh>
as i said... i think you need to ask your vendor for documentation. also one serial isnt enough since its blocked while in use for data
<kristianpaul>
ankitb: ppp is not for that?
<kristianpaul>
Ayla: milkymist experts ;)
<Ayla>
kristianpaul: you guys know so much, I supposed you did know that too :p
<ankitb>
kristianpaul: I didnt get ur last comment
<ankitb>
can you please elaborate
<kristianpaul>
you want sent at commands to a modem
<kristianpaul>
right?
<ankitb>
yes
<kristianpaul>
using a nanonote? right?
<kristianpaul>
so modem and serial port plus AT commands, well ppp is good for that
<ankitb>
Not exactly!! I want to automate the process of getting signal strength.....using bash script
<kristianpaul>
ah
<kristianpaul>
and you already know how to get this data?
<kristianpaul>
at command chains or such..
<ankitb>
Can you please tell me what does ppp stands for?
<ankitb>
No
<ankitb>
I have tried something called SMSlib, but i am not able to get it running
<kristianpaul>
whitequark: i tried, may be as you live in russia is different, there is MAX2769 EVKIT, you can try writen then and get one for free or very low costs
wej has joined #qi-hardware
<kristianpaul>
i did, but they or donr understand me or just a robot reply me with a price..
<kristianpaul>
whitequark: that EVKIT plus your M1 is the way to to implement a gps sytems on chip receiver
<kristianpaul>
ankitb: seems very unrelated (smslib)
<roh>
what does the evk cost?
kilae has joined #qi-hardware
<kristianpaul>
let me find that mail first
<ankitb>
smslib is a java library that use to get signal strength ....i tried the minicomm, kmobile tool for getting Signal strength
<kristianpaul>
i see
<kristianpaul>
well long time i dont do at command, but i remenber some at stuff _jsut_ work with specific hw vendors..
<GNUtoo-desktop>

kristianpaul: max and friends don't send samples to Russia
<whitequark>
I doubt anyone really does
<whitequark>
Russians, er, like to get free samples and then don't do anything with them. hence the vendors' reaction is at least justified

damn where i get that 80.192 Mhz clock..
<whitequark>
kristianpaul: use M1 system clock, and then multiply/divide it?
<kristianpaul>
s/80.192/81.92
<qi-bot>
kristianpaul meant: "damn where i get that 81.92 Mhz clock.."
<kristianpaul>
it should be 65.536 Mhz..
<kristianpaul>
anyway fixing now
<wpwrak>
wolfspraul: hmm, in theory you could repeat bus signals on the expansion header. but if you know the fpga that well, you don't need to read faqs ;-)
<wpwrak>
wolfspraul: normally, you wouldn't think of doing anything like this. e.g., the led matrix is a controller sitting on the configuration bus (conbus ?), has a few registers there, but then has its own "protocol" on the pins of the expansion header
<ankitb>
GNUtoo|laptop, USB modem device ....
<GNUtoo|laptop>
ankitb, what protocol does it speak?
<GNUtoo|laptop>
AT or something else?
<GNUtoo|laptop>
note that "something else" is very common in smartphones nowadays
<kristianpaul>
wpwrak: what is the porpuse of repeating this signal?
<ankitb>
devices using ppp0 protocol ......It reaspond At command when it doesn't connect to Internet....if we connect it to inter-net ...then it shows the "resource busy" ....
<ankitb>
GNUtoo|laptop, devices using ppp0 protocol ......It reaspond At command when it doesn't connect to Internet....if we connect it to inter-net ...then it shows the "resource busy" ....
<GNUtoo|laptop>
ankitb, you need a muxer then
<ankitb>
GNUtoo|laptop, it respond only at+csq command ....
<GNUtoo|laptop>
ankitb, how many serial ports appeared?
<GNUtoo|laptop>
because there might be many serial port with each port having a specific set of commands
<ankitb>
how to use muxer ...
<ankitb>
for command it support only one port ....called as ACM0......aur ACM1.......any one one of them...
<ankitb>
GNUtoo|laptop, and for data it usage 4 port ....like USB0....USB1......USB2.....USB3......but one time it respond form only one port ...dev/ttyACM0
fossrox has joined #qi-hardware
<GNUtoo|laptop>
hmmm
<GNUtoo|laptop>
maybe look in ofono or such software
<GNUtoo|laptop>
for how they handle your particular modem
<wpwrak>
kristianpaul: that would be for cases where you'd want to "export" a bus on the expansion header. you'd need to bring the signals out somewhere. and you may modify things in the process ...
<wpwrak>
kristianpaul: don't know if wishbone has a means for devices to signal when data is ready on the bus. or if you can mix different bus speeds.
<kristianpaul>
ah debug porpuses yes
<kristianpaul>
wishbone, thats question for sebastien :)
<kristianpaul>
but the ideal will be by jtag library from xilinx
<wpwrak>
i think wolfgang was looking for something like an ISA or PCI bus, where you connect external cards
<wpwrak>
or at least one card, conforming to the bus protocol
B_Lizzard has joined #qi-hardware
<kristianpaul>
cern have a wishbone to PCI, i think
<kristianpaul>
yes i see
<wpwrak>
(wishbone to pci) cool ! when we could add a USB controller card and have YET MORE USB interfaces ;-))
<kristianpaul>
lol
<kristianpaul>
but why not make wishbone avalible phisically not sounds that crazy
<kristianpaul>
well no hotplug of course :)
<wpwrak>
but then you need hardware that speaks wishbone. another fpga ?
<kristianpaul>
yes
<kristianpaul>
or cpld, some wishbone to uart cores should exists already

kristianpaul: I'm not going to use leon3 SoC in the nearest future. Too many efforts were spend on MM SoC to through them ;)
<Artyom>
But leon3 SoC seems to be very popular among gnss-developers.
<Artyom>
For example javad also uses leon3 in their ASIC
<whitequark>
now that I look at it, I wonder
<whitequark>
why M1 doesn't use a LEON3 cpu?
<whitequark>
it's GPL
<whitequark>
3.5kLUT sounds manageable
