<drujensen> @damianham @andrewc910 if both solutions are only using shards to download code and copy it over, there is no upgrade path for either solution. Is this correct? If so, I guess neither has an advantage over the other. If I ever get some free time, I will try both out and give feedback.

<damianham> @drujensen yes that is correct.

<damianham> @juozasg you are running crystal doc on the Amber lib src and getting an error from the generator templates. I think crystal doc should be run on a generated application and NOT on the Amber lib source. The documentation is online at https://amberframework.org and is extensive enough to cover all aspects of creating a web application with Amber.

<andrewc910> @drujensen @damianham I personally don't like the plugin fetching the repo. I personally don't believe that should be the plugins job. With that said, I am totally fine with @damianham getting merged. Its all his code.
<FromGitter>
<andrewc910> @drujensen because they are in a separate plugin folder, I see no reason users cant "reinstall" after an update. That would overwrite the files and the update would be complete. My concern is if plugin authors encourage users to manually edit plugin files. That's when the user would bave to manually update said plugin or reinstall and start over?
<FromGitter>
<andrewc910> So i guess updates would be 1. Update your shards.yml 2. Shards install 3. Amber plugin plugin_name. That would bring uo the interactive prompt to begin overwriting new files. At that point, ita up to the author & user to communicate what needs updating.

<andrewc910> @juozasg @damianham is correct. That particular error is in the CLI. An amber project doesn't depend on the CLI so you should be able to run crystal docs on your project. I have never tried though. With that said, amber framework/amber#760 is about this specific problem. Currently you can't run crystal docs on the amber repo because of all the templates.
