Heya. I bought an arm netbook off of alibaba, it's got an a10 chipset which seems reasoanbly well supported by sunxi. Multiple sources suggest it should boot from SD, but that's not been my experience
<rm>
richo, interesting; I guess not many people have those
<rm>
around here
<rm>
richo, when you insert the SD card and reboot, does it not boot at all, or just boot into Android?
<richo>
Basically, what should I be doing to help chase this down. I've got root inside the preinstalled android, but it can't mount he SD card
<richo>
it just boots into android
<rm>
which SD card images did you try?
<richo>
would you recognise them from the filenames? the links are in my tab swarm
<richo>
from googling so many variations
<rm>
maybe
<richo>
a10-debian-server-2gb.2013-04-11.img
<richo>
a10_base-1.3.img
<rm>
yeah that's mine
<rm>
1st one
<richo>
Ah ok. Well, thanks!
<rm>
so you can't mount the SD card even when in Android?
<richo>
Nope, although that seems to be because it can't read the partition table
<rm>
maybe the reader slot is defective?
<richo>
if I read up on my mount-fu and manually give it the offset it'll work
<rm>
hum
<richo>
Hrm. I'll format the card exfat and see if I can copy some stuff over.
<richo>
Wait, will it not work with low class cards?
<richo>
I couldn't get anything good at short notice, so I grabbed a class 4 because it was better than nothing
<Marex>
anyone has any idea about CWM on rk3066-based device ?
<Marex>
I won a tablet (well ... "tablet" )
<Marex>
the android that's placed on that device is really crap :(
<eebrah>
Marex: Is it rooted?

<slapin_nb>
Marex: try running su on it
<slapin_nb>
Marex: or check for busybox presence
<Marex>

There are tools for rooting Rockchip devices
Yakuzza has quit []
<eebrah>
your best bet may be searching on slatedroid for instructions
<Marex>
eebrah: oh ?
<Marex>
okay, thanks
<Marex>
and once I'm rooted, then what ?

<eebrah>
If you do not like the ROM you are using the rooting won't really help
<eebrah>
maybe try some custom ROMS like rockcreamSandwich or CyanogenMod for rockchip?
<eebrah>
you need a windows tool [ RKTools.exe ] for flashing a ROM onto the tablet/miniPC
<eebrah>
the guys at slatedroid usually have links to something recent
<wumpus>
at least for flashing rk2918 there's also a linux tool
<eebrah>
development on RK3066 seems to have slowed down .... alot
<eebrah>
the linux port [ picuntu ] hasn't seen progress in a while
<eebrah>
the CM and Rockcreamsandwich ROMS i'm getting are months old
<eebrah>
I ended up going back to the manufacturer's ROM when they came out with an update
<eebrah>
too bad though .... The processor is snappy! Would have loved to run desktop Linux here

eebrah: the processor is crap
<Marex>
eebrah: I won't mind rebuilding the CM10 from chris troy for that, but where do I get kernel sources ?
<Marex>
eebrah: how/where do I pull all that stuff from ?
<Marex>
eebrah: can I pull it from the device ?
<slapin_nb>
Marex: some time ago they released source for that processor, no? and how you identify what crap and what is not? All hardware is crap these days...

I don't think Rockchip ever officially released their kernel sources
<eebrah>
but some spanish tablet manufacturer that uses the RK3066 did
<eebrah>
never thoroughly followed it up
<eebrah>
Marex: Coming from an Allwinner A10, the Rockchip RK3066 was just .... snappy!
