<focus_it>
20 seconds to boot as you know but it as fast as any 2GHz pc
<focus_it>
and feels faster than netbook
<keebler>
lol
<keebler>
Yeah
<keebler>
I'm pretty happy with it.
<focus_it>
i been ordered to build the soms
<focus_it>
asap
<focus_it>
what need doing?
<keebler>
I was HOPING to have my Lapdock this weekend so I could have had something portable to show Dale.
<keebler>
focus_it: On the SoM?
<focus_it>
just get a stata docking bay with usb + mmc and you got yourself accidental pc
<focus_it>
ordered to build som
<keebler>
If you need some SoMs quickly, I can get a few hundred.
<focus_it>
i mean design test, build the universal som we discuss
<keebler>
How soon do you need them?
<focus_it>
asap
<keebler>
Let me check with my contact.
<focus_it>
by christmas may be
<keebler>
Oh, I was thinking by October.
<keebler>
:P
<keebler>
How many do you need?
<focus_it>
we make new products and i need them to be the basic building block of the new product
<focus_it>
but it has to be kicad and open so that we don't run into supply trouble
<keebler>
Well, it's just the A20 + 1GB DDR2 + 4GB NAND(I'm getting quotes for 32GB), and RTL8201P
<focus_it>
i can take time out to cooperate with anyone to get this thing done
<focus_it>
and AXP209?
<keebler>
Yes
<focus_it>
why RTLxx?
<focus_it>
you planning putting the ethernet magnetic on the board?
<focus_it>
actually you be right rtl needs a lot of wires - while its output is just a couple of wires - better to put it on board
<keebler>
yeah.
<focus_it>
ok agreed
<focus_it>
how about the cooperation - who be interested?
<focus_it>
and the kicad cooperation ?
<keebler>
Well, what about converting Altium drawings to KiCAD?
<focus_it>
yes i can do that - if schematic available
<focus_it>
just send me pdf
rz2k has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it>
because its open sourced, everyone can use it
<focus_it>
save time and money!
<focus_it>
:)
<keebler>
I can TRY to get the schematics, however, I was under the impression they wanted to keep the SoM itself "closed", but make everything else around it, open.
<focus_it>
yuk - back to luke scenario - i get shot down if i do that again
<keebler>
They are providing me with the schematics for the Dev Board.
<keebler>
And will release it opensource.
akaizen has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<focus_it>
originally i thought luke was open source board, then it went wits and closed, and that had us in two minds
<keebler>
Yeah, we're in the same boat.
<focus_it>
but it was worth it to help as he said he intends to open source later
<keebler>
We initially signed on to the initiative because of a misunderstanding that the EOMA68-A10 was to be open.
<keebler>
That said, I still think it's a worthwhile endeavor
<focus_it>
ok - the best plan is i finish helping luke then i help dr. ajith and then i make another uiversal som with redundant 200pin SODIMM and FPC so that it can be used with or without mboard
<focus_it>
that is what my company wants and this way of helping each project is probably the quickest for me
<keebler>
Right.
<focus_it>
as I get experience on the way
<focus_it>
dr ajith board has a couple of footprint mistakes, but no problem just remake and move on
<keebler>
I'm also partnering up with AW-SoM.
<focus_it>
and if that works, i cut it down and make the 'univeral A20 som board' for everybody to use :)
akaizen has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it>
ok may be they help us or they take some good bits from us like software and give something back - we all win
<keebler>
Mainly because for now, I did not want to handle the design work of building a SoM.
<keebler>
Well, we could use their manufacturing vendors.
<focus_it>
dr. ajith took 3 to 4 months with my help
<focus_it>
that would be good - they can productionize this 100% open som board and that benefit us both
<focus_it>
i don't have to spend $ making board and they don't have to spend $ desinging board
<keebler>
I would have to ask them about that...because it would be a conflict of interest for their business model.
<focus_it>
yeah propietary - always crap that gets in the way
<focus_it>
i hate proprietary
<focus_it>
not personally
<focus_it>
but how it destroy projects and cooperation
joshskidmore has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<focus_it>
but any way i am steam roling ahed with universal som - if anyone wants in - so much the better
<focus_it>
(after i help luk an ajith)
<keebler>
Well, their entire business hinges on the SOM being adopted commercially, and being one of the only companies that can produce it with cheapness and efficiency. :) I definitely want in. :P
<focus_it>
that is good - but like cubie, they don't need ownership of drawings to find success - but its hard to explain that to management set in their ways
<keebler>
My business model is based around the idea of bringing designers and engineers together to make products and then bring those products to market.
<focus_it>
luckily i don't money or payment
joshskidmore has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it>
my model is get it working - build product and sell product which other people can't readily make and charge for the priviledge
<keebler>
Aye.
<focus_it>
so making the board open means nothing - the customers are always going to be the person who want product
<keebler>
That is basically the same premise, just worded differently. :)
<focus_it>
if someone make duplicate product, cutomer rarely buy from unknowns
<focus_it>
they only buy from competitor if they not satisfied with you
<keebler>
First To Market is key in that scenario though.... That said, you have the segmentation caused by Rikomagic and Allwinner.
<focus_it>
but i keep on improving and moving to next model every day and that what get me customer
<focus_it>
riko rubbish with open source - so i go with allwinner
<keebler>
Agreed
<focus_it>
if i get enough $ i buy arm license and make available a big soc for everyone
<keebler>
David wants Allwinner or similar SoC vendor to integrate the DDR + NAND.
<keebler>
I agreed with that idea. :)
<focus_it>
anway we don't plan selling soc - we plan to be user of soc that we make our own
<focus_it>
so no fear for cubie or luke or your partern! :)
<keebler>
Hah, yeah.
<focus_it>
ok i must go home for now - i log on later as focus_it
<focus_it>
bye for now
<keebler>
