is anybody using his cubieboard as a router ?
<mnemoc>
it only has one ethernet
<BigWhoop[DE]>
is not a good deal because of only one ethernet port

<rm>
I do
<rm>
for router-like usage you need either a VLAN-capable switch, or an USB NIC
<user>
cheap usb-nic converter works fine
<rm>
beware randomly buying a cheap one though, there's a lot of devices on the market which only support USB 1.1
<Yaku321>
i do have a cheap ethernet nic which turned out to be only 10mbit anyway, since i have only 1mbit dsl that could be my wan
<Yaku321>
do you use linaro or archlinux or debian ?
<rm>
debian
<Yaku321>
headless ?
<rm>
yes
<Yaku321>
and yes i was decieved by a 10/100mbit adapter with only usb 1.1 even tho the package says 2.0
<Yaku321>
rd9700
<Yaku321>
archlinux can start direcly from sdcard on the mele, a multiboot sd card would be neat, since i still need it as mediaplayer as long as the cedarx distros aren´t yet smoothless
<shineworld>
There is a wayt to boot the board just when power is UP without to press the related button ?
<shineworld>
*way
fzerorubigd has joined #cubieboard
<Yaku321>
what OS do you use on yours ?
<shineworld>
Android 4.0.4_r1
<shineworld>
I would like to avoid to add an extra circuit to simulate power button click when power supply is rise to ON
<shineworld>
really I can't open every time the cubieboard selfmade box to press power button to power up it...
<Yaku321>
well the a2000 i have starts on connect to power, so a physical powerswitch might work with the cubieboard too ?
<Yaku321>
but not a good solution either i suppose
<Yaku321>
and if i don´t use a device i like to disconnect it from power physically
<rm>
cubieboard boots up when power is applied
<rm>
no any button press needed
<Yaku321>
does cubieboard also have the IR reciever like the mele board, so the ir signal would do it too while power is applied ?
<shineworld>
mine cubie don't boot if I simpli connect the power cable :(
<shineworld>
*simply
<shineworld>
I've tried with all my 4 boards just now
<Yaku321>
i would try a different 5v powersupply too, maybe the voltage isn´t enough for it to trigger if the powersupply is too weak, but i really don´t know then
<shineworld>
I will close the entire board in a box which need to boot automatically at power up (partitions are R/0 and mounted on ram so I have problems to shutdown without right process) : example of box https://www.dropbox.com/s/xvhzpn1tus5hxdf/IMG_20130419_125527.jpg
<shineworld>
I've powered with 5V 2A DC/DC converter (from main 24V line) so I don't guess is a problem of power supply
<Yaku321>
there is still the IR led
<Yaku321>
on which port do you power it ?
<shineworld>
in main port

well, i wonder if it will be at all better then the rk3066 which is out for more then a year, but i guess rockchip didn´t make too many friends in the open source world and looking at the rPI shows how well support and community make an underpowered device more usable then a twice as powerful
delusr_ has joined #cubieboard

I've choose cubie at 70% for community
<shineworld>
I've also a iMX6 Dual board in the desktop which collect dust ....
<hipboi>
:O
<hipboi>
isn't there are more people playing with imx?
<shineworld>
we are a customer of Freescale by a lot of year, good documentation but very bad support
<shineworld>
and very little community
<shineworld>
the things are changing (about community) but slowly
<hipboi>
but there are fifty million sunxi device shipped all over the world
<shineworld>
yes ;) the only very question is type of cortex used... Allwinner use A series (for tv box, etc) and Freescale is based on M
<hipboi>
:O
<shineworld>
M is more near to my real needs but at end I've choose All winner
<shineworld>
and cubie meets my needs
<shineworld>
totally
<shineworld>
if all gone fine I will contact you hipboi
<shineworld>
sorry I've missed the M is another chip not IM6 that is mounted on another board that I've on desk
<shineworld>

<hipboi>

<shineworld>

<shineworld>
hipboi, I will use your board for some different than a tv box :)
<hipboi>
that what it should be used
<shineworld>
yeah, but can be used also for HMI that don't need to be safety certified
<shineworld>
I'm customizing android (I'm staring from openbox tv but I'm matching it with AOSP code) to fit better that needs
<shineworld>
Next step will be to try it in climatic chamber and and some strong power supply burst to test operating limits .. but for HMI there are low requirements
<Yaku321>
is there an IR codelist for the mele remote somewhere ? since the cubieboard is a modified meleboard it might work
<shineworld>
IR to KEY values ?
<Yaku321>
you may just turn it on with a learning remote then
<shineworld>
I can't use IR, I will remove it's support too
<shineworld>
actually there are a lot of components that I don't need :) HDMI, usb connectors, IR, LAN, and audio components ...
<shineworld>
cya
shineworld has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<hipboi>
Yaku321, you can use mele remote directly
<hipboi>
Yaku321, the mele ir code is already in there
<Yaku321>
well it was because shineworld wanted to start his board somehow without pressing the button, but it´s good to know

Hi, the Android (tv 2.2 release) firmware does not allow applications to write to the external SD or connected USB drives. I need my app to be able to write to it, as the internal one is to small. Is there anyway I can fix this? I have found references to the problem here http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is_Google_blocking_apps_writing_to_SD_cards_/ but no solutions. We are looking to deploy a few hundred of these devices but cannot do so if we
<TimothyP>
can't write to external devices
<mnemoc>
iirc android uses an special permission for that and apps "forget" to request it
<mnemoc>
but you can change a certain file to give apps in one group write access to sd cards or usb devices

@mnemoc Thank you It worked !!! on the cubie. Now you mentioned you did it on the Mele A2000 as well, how did you connect ADB? there is no USB debug connector and no option to enable ADB over TCP
<TimothyP>
ah ssh server will do :p
