when you get a cb2, is it preinstalled with an os? i mean all you have to do is connect it to a usb, connect the hdmi and it will boot?

i don't have a usb to serial, but i have an arduino, i could connect cb2->serial->ardu->usb->pc
<gts2>
and read what the cb2 is spitting at the serial
<gts2>
... right?
<lunra>
the arduino is 5V serial (unless it's a Due?)
NinjaBruxo has joined #cubieboard
<gts2>
it's a uno
<lunra>
it's not clear whether the serial can take 5V without damaging it, but IIRC some people have done it
<lunra>
if you wanna risk it, it might work, but the higher voltage level could damage the cubieboard
<gts2>
what if i make a voltage divider lol
<lunra>
that could work
NinjaBruxo has quit [Client Quit]
<gts2>
iirc the rs232 protocol both the rx and tx lines are driven from both sides, it's just that the receiver's "+5" is a weak one?
<lunra>
If you have a buspirate, they can also be used as 3.3v serial
<lunra>
it's not rs232, that's much higher voltage
<lunra>
I'm not sure what you mean :(
<gts2>
i have an arduino, some avrs floating around... maybe if i program an avr and power it from 3.3... and then talk to the avr
<gts2>
ffffffffff......
<lunra>
relax XD
<lunra>
there are bootable graphical SD card images I think...
<gts2>
i have a card with cubian already
<gts2>
the cb2 doesn't seem to be outputting hdmi
<gts2>
if i manage to run the arduino at 3.3? :/
<lunra>
IIRC the arduino's serial is connected up to a secondary AVR which runs at 5V and talks directly to USB
<lunra>
have you got any other working embedded systems?
<gts2>
TI msp430
<gts2>
some pics
<gts2>
i mean PICs
<gts2>
ti msp430 dev board. the PICs i have are just the chips lying around.
<gts2>
i have three computers, two hp calculators...
<lunra>
hmm. Well, the best solution is to buy a USB->3v3serial adapter and be patient enough for it to arrive... next best is the voltage divider

does the cb2 have provision to power itself up from the tx/rx lines FROM AN ARDUINO ?

Just happened. It's weird, yeah.

ya you're gonna need cedarx to get any significant performance. it looks like nobody's made much of an attempt at patching it into anything but vlc
<GargantuaSauce>
you'll make a lot of people happy including myself if you do it though :)

in which case it's just a question of convincing gstreamer to use it

<utente>
GargantuaSauce, you said: "you're gonna need cedarx to get any significant performance. it looks like " so i ask you wot to do, how to recompile gnash activating cedarx
<GargantuaSauce>
it uses gstreamer, which can use vdpau, which as rz2k noted has a fork for cedarx support
<utente>
do you mean gstreamer must recompiled activating cedarx? if yes, i duno how to do. (i recompiled drom debian source packages addinf some paramenter in LDFLAGS adn CFLAGS)
<GargantuaSauce>
no that is not what i mean
<utente>
ok, tell me, i did not understood
<GargantuaSauce>
get rid of the standard vdpau packages
<GargantuaSauce>
compile the one in the github link above
<utente>
ok, i go to these loinks, thanks,
<GargantuaSauce>
you might have to jump through hoops to get gstreamer to use that vdpau, i have no idea

i dont understand the meaning of your last sentence.

<Yaku-noob>

<Yaku-noob>
and i uncommented the pre up lines in the interfaces file
<rm>
are you using the correct script.bin for your device
<Yaku-noob>
i copied something when i first started the image

maybe it wasn´t right, it´s a mele a2000
<Yaku-noob>
how can i see that it was correct

hmm when i dded the hwpack i think i dded it to mmcblk0p1
<Yaku-noob>
since i recall when i first dded it to mmcblk0 the box didn´t reboot anymore
<Yaku-noob>
was mmcblk0p1 right when i dded the files from ../bootloader ?
<Yaku-noob>
and in lsusb it should be this one: Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
<Yaku-noob>
i guess since i was annoyed that a 10/100 could be delivered with usb1 :P
<rm>
no... not p1
<rm>
just mmcblk0
<rm>
by using mmcblk0p1 you may have corrupted your boot partition
<Yaku-noob>
then it´s possible that i first tried p1 and then did mmcblk0, the first time it didn´t boot, i don´t really recall the order
<wolfy>
if it boots you should be fine. however I am no expert but I'd say that the kernel does not know how to handle your USB device
<Yaku-noob>
ah, it´s a crappy adapter anyway
<rm>
does it work in a different computer
<rm>
do any other device works in Mele in the same USB port?
<Yaku-noob>
it works, on my mk808b it does
<Yaku-noob>
i haven´t tried it under the server image yet
<Yaku-noob>
i haven´t had use for a mouse or so, i will grab a usb stick
<rm>
thing is, you may be using a script.bin which doesn't set the correct mode of operation for all the USB ports you have...

from 115200

i suppose upon booting cubian you get a login in x and i assume ctrl-f1 goes to command line
<GargantuaSauce>
you have to take specific steps to make it actually have a text framebuffer
<GargantuaSauce>
not sure whether that distro has that done

blindly change the resolution?

blindly log in x and change the serial mode from there?
