Hi, I'm trying to get cubieboard1 working with sata disk - when i leave put root = /dev/sda1 in uEnv.txt, it picks it up but does not boot from it. just hangs saying "waiting for /dev/sda1". The sata is externally powered and does not take power from cubieboard. (cubieboard2 works if i leave it in boot.cmd)
<focus>
well done popolon! I to follow your work soon
<rm>
popolon.org uses an invalid security certificate.
<rm>
The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
<rm>
The certificate is only valid for master2.planet-service.fr
<popolon>
don't really understand why such a kind of alert
<popolon>
fisher use CDN now, with valid SSL certificate
<rm>
the error message explained precisely why...
<popolon>
this block more user that are aware of some security
<popolon>
I know
<popolon>
I don't know why for every navigator tend to block user for that
<popolon>
meaning => there is no mean to have secure connexion if you are not big corporate
<popolon>
oe at least have 300$ to spent by year for this f*** alert
<rm>
startssl provides SSL certificates for free
<rm>
others from $2-$3/year
<rm>
(I am sensitive to this because I just finished implementing SSL on my own website couple of days ago)
<rm>
also there's CACert which is free and supported by some browsers/OSes...
<ttmrichter>
popolon: If you're going to have a self-signed cert you may as well not use a cert at all.

does ssl will start ?

at least with a self-signed certifacte, I'm sur to be on my own server
<popolon>
if there is DNS problem
<popolon>
and I access by name
<popolon>
of if there is ip adress conflict due to some network configuration error
<ttmrichter>
popolon: The issue is man-in-the-middle attacks.
<ttmrichter>
Someone does something nasty to route traffic intended for your server to theirs instead.
<ttmrichter>
And they present their own self-signed certificate.
<ttmrichter>
And just forward anything a visitor to your site wants to do over to you whilst skimming the "secured" content at will.
<popolon>
so if i have my own self signed certicitate I know I'm on my server
<ttmrichter>
Hence "a visitor" and not "you".
<popolon>
I'm a visitor of my site
<popolon>
but still, attackers today use cdn certifcates
<ttmrichter>
OK, I'm just going to stop even trying to explain this. You're absolutely right. The thousands of cryptographers and PKI implementers who disagree with you are delusional. You win.
<popolon>
so noone have alert when cdn are used instead of official site

they are always debating rules and policies :p

but still not resolved for network, didn't try your trick, but I would like to found the standard way on ubuntu 13.10
<popolon>
only autodhcp for network is my problem
<popolon>
still need to compile again, graphics driver, but that's the same method than for ubuntu 13.04
<focus_it>
the linaro ubuntu image doesn't come up with sound in its drivers but alamixer shows them - don't understand why the two behave so differently
<popolon>
focus_it, for linaro ubuntu, that was only a right problem
<popolon>
linaro user worked
<popolon>
but not jm user you created, because you didn't added it to audio group
<focus_it>
i added it later here, and still same result
<focus_it>
may be i should fix the linaro user and start from there
<popolon>
I have sound with your installation with linaro user
<focus_it>
follow your suggestion as to how to fix it - some problems with root owing linaro user files
<popolon>
ho !
<popolon>
there was two problems
<focus_it>
hmm i still can't login with linaro - haven't followed your suggestion to fix the root owned files yet
<popolon>
some rights problems on directory linaro
<focus_it>
ok
<popolon>
and jm wasn't in audio group
<focus_it>
ok
<popolon>
as root:
<popolon>
passwd linaro
<popolon>
but I believe that's already the case
<focus_it>
so in your linaro user now you got audio come up in the right hand side tool bar?
<popolon>
and you can log with linaro (if you resolved permission problems on linaro user directory
<focus_it>
i got audio with "x" in jm user despite being added to audio group
<popolon>
didn't looked at this
<popolon>
but it work
<focus_it>
ok
<popolon>
alsamixer

didn't tried a lot
<focus_it>

<focus_it>
sound through hdmi working?
<popolon>
throughjack out
<popolon>
don't have any hdmi in
<popolon>
but on a video-only hdmi->dvi adapter
<focus_it>
yes I got that too - but no hdmi - sound is mixed in with the video - booting up on android has the sound through hdmi working
<focus_it>
but not yet through linux
<popolon>
that was the problem for me
<popolon>
by default
<popolon>
android sound is on hdmi
<popolon>
you have to switch it to jack in prefs
<popolon>
I suppose that's the same on linux, but jack by default
<focus_it>
alsa mixer can play sound through jack socket - but when selecting hdmi, it does not come out of hdmi - still comes out through jack
<popolon>
it seems you can have both together (at least on android)
<focus_it>
yes
<popolon>
ok
<popolon>
need to be reported to linux-sunxi devs then
<focus_it>
that serious eh? :)
<focus_it>
do you know if cubie1 can boot from uSD and switch to booting from Sata? i tried it but it always hangs and says waiting for /dev/sda1
<focus_it>
cubie2 fine of course :)
<focus_it>
my impression is that no one has it working - so the only way sata access is happening is to mount the sata after the os booted off the uSD - a bit slow
Freyr has joined #cubieboard
<bfree>
if you mean root on sata, yes it can. just make sure sata (and filesystem) support is built in to your kernel, or that your initramfs loads the module(s) required.
<bfree>
I admit I've only done it the initramfs way, but I'm sure I've seen plenty of others reporting success doing it without an initramfs
<focus_it>
just looked at kernel config - the only thing sata related not set is CONFIG_SATA_MV - is that important?
<focus_it>
The others are CONFIG_SATA_PMP=y CONFIG_SATA_AHCI_PLATFORM=y CONFIG_SW_SATA_AHCI_PLATFORM=m CONFIG_ATA_SFF=y
<bfree>
CONFIG_SW_SATA_AHCI_PLATFORM=m means it is modular, so you need an initramfs that loads it. http://linux-sunxi.org/Initial_Ramdisk or build it in
<focus_it>
hmmm.. wonder if CONFIG_SW_SATA_AHCI_PLATFORM=m need to be changed to CONFIG_SW_SATA_AHCI_PLATFORM=y
