<mkad>
bircoe, cubietruck has lots of obsolete interfaces :P and i big
<mkad>
is big
<mkad>
:)
<mkad>
I prefer cubieboard 1 or 2 :P
<bircoe>
for the intended use I wanted 2gb RAM and the Gigbit Ethernet...
<tomboy64>
wtf
<tomboy64>
why do people always claim their microcomputers are completely opensource, hard and software?
<tomboy64>
everything using mali uses blob drivers ffs
<tomboy64>
that is not open source -.-
<tomboy64>
the same with android and libhybris -.-
<bircoe>
yeah I don't get it either
<bircoe>
same with Raspberry Pi, the GPU drivers are proprietary blobs...
<bircoe>
IT makes them sound friendly if they say "full open source"
<mkad>
yeah some people are stupid and rude to that point that they claim their design is open-source while it is not made in any open-source software but in eagle crap
<mkad>
some ppl are just tards and you cant help that

what do you want to know... I've just spent a few solid days messing with mine, it's now stuffed in the cupboard being a TVHeadend server
<tomboy64>
bircoe: i intend to create a gentoo image for it and then use it as an always-on-server/htpc
<tomboy64>
bircoe: i wonder if it was powerful enough to run a java vm with a service without noticeable impact on its htpc functions (via xmbc)
<mkutsevol>
Hello. Cubie2 question. I need additional UART, RX/TX only. I'm a noob in this field ;) I'm editing cubieboard2.fex. The question is: can I use ANY port for the uart function (eg PH15/PH14 for uart_para1 uart_tx/uart_rx) or I have to obey port multiplexing table found at: http://docs.cubieboard.org/_media/hardware/gpio_defination_large.jpg?cache=
<bircoe>
tomboy64, I had a big file copy going from USB to SATA that had one of the cores pinned at 100%, and the web interfaces were still very responsive.
<tomboy64>
web-interfaces? what kinds of services are you running?

Web interface for tvheadend and phpsysinfo

tvheadend web frontend uses AJAX (sench/extjs framework) - it will be almost always very responsive

Yes true, but phpsysinfo is pretty heavy generating the page, takes 45 seconds on a Pi.

xbmc problem will be cedarx support, not cpu-related, imho

a20 is capable os 3k decodinng , but it's hardware assisted.
<mkutsevol>
of 4k decoding
<mkutsevol>
and java's love is usualy memory.
<mkutsevol>
smp support is available, so cpu pinning/nice can help make java play nice

mkutsevol: what do you mean by "os 4k decoding"?
<tomboy64>
i've had a htpc a while ago, when booting it up i had to disconnect my workstation monitor in order for it to use the TV (hdmi) as bootup-screen.
<tomboy64>
will that be an issue with the cubietruck? would it be able to mirror the output to both screens? (vga out & hdmi)
<mkutsevol>
seen some variables to configure that behavior, haven't tried them. I'll searc h for a link for you.

ok
<tomboy64>
will only be needed around christmas, when i actually get it
<tomboy64>
knowing that it's configurable (and approximately where) is enough :)

I'm a big noob in arm
<mkutsevol>
yesterday I was happy when I understood how the SoC boots.
<tomboy64>
:-D
<tomboy64>
i used to tinker around with a neo freerunner
<tomboy64>
but quickly got annoyed with the software stack
<bircoe>
all that box pretty much has is tvheadend running, the rest is just out of the box stuff... similar setup on a Pi with Archlinux had the load averages at <0.5
<mkutsevol>
Undestand that LA is something like "how many processes are beeing run/want to run in the time frame"
<tomboy64>
bircoe: do you have A20 on that machine?
<bircoe>
I understand how it works :)
<bircoe>
yes
<bircoe>
I'm not the only one to have noticed it, there are a few forum posts with users askign similar questions and i stumbled on this earlier
<bircoe>
might have to learn how to compile a kernel for this thing and leave out the SUNXI USB2.0 Dual Role Controller driver like the github page shows and see if it;s any better...
<mkutsevol>
I'm playing around 3.3 kernel at the moment, but going to try 3.4. There are buildtime options for usb driver. Seen them lately.

<bircoe>
Linux cubietruck 3.4.61+ #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 26 13:08:57 CST 2013 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux
<bircoe>
That was the other thing that bugs me, every time my board powers off it gets a new MAC address... Had to hard code MAC into the interfaces file.
<xeloweb>
The Wifi driver haven't been merged to linux-sunxi kernel, so the module doesn't work currently on r3 version. But a working wifi driver can be found at github.com/cubieboard2/linux-sunxi branch sunxi-3.4-ct-v101.
<xeloweb>
and i dont know what i have to make :D
<mkutsevol>
pity. don't have CT, cant help
<xeloweb>
its my first time linux
<torbenh3>
whats the status of u-boot spl on cubietruck ? i just booted my board for the first time, and went it went through this weird boot0 and boot1 stuff...
<xeloweb>
torben i see you from german ?
<torbenh3>
xeloweb: yes.
<tomboy65>
hehehe your first time linux? and already trying a board with incomplete driver support? curageous ^^
<mkutsevol>
Why not? The person want to learn linux. What is so funny in it?
<xeloweb>
i dont know

tomboy65: oh.. what drivers are missing?
<tomboy65>
Rasi: well, for one thing the mali driver is a blob. and apparently the wifi driver is still in development and only available via the sunxi kernel.
<Rasi>
ok... gpu binary driver is a common problem with such boards
<Rasi>
sadly
<tomboy65>
yup
<tomboy65>
taints the whole stack
<Rasi>
well, since my only usecase is audio, i dont care :P
<Rasi>
mpd + external DAC + sata drive
<Rasi>
as long as this works perfectly, i am satisfied
<Rasi>
but i cant find the cubieboard + case anyway, atm :P
