<kieppie> trying to figure out which stock Ubuntu/Debian images to use
<kieppie> anyone online
<kieppie> ?

<kieppie> I'm trying the berryboot image, but find it pretty hard to get the device to boot up properly
<syeekick> i;ve waited over a month for my cubie trruckk to arriv
<syeekick> yet nothing
<kieppie> honestly - can't say I'm overwhelmed by the platform
<kieppie> think I'll go for BB's next time. was hoping this would be suitable upgrades from RasPi
<kieppie> for the CB2 (A20), what is the hardware arch I'm looking for when seeking image for stock Ubuntu/Debian
<iggy> arm A7 iirc
<iggy> A8
<kieppie> looks it could be ARMv7 Cortex-A7 MPCore
<kieppie> hmm :/ I'm trying different images, but nothing seems interrested in booting of mSD or USB
<iggy> yeah, I was looking at CB1
<iggy> I think it can only boot off SD
<iggy> but it's late and I follow a bunch of embdedded board projects
<syeekick> much customer care such love

<kieppie> even so - I've loaded the berryboots on microSD's so that I can choose from option, but I just cant' boot into it. did a reformat, reflash & set boot flag, but still no-go

<endy93> многоуважаемое эхо. у меня имеется cubieboard a20 подскажите где купить для нее плату переходник или pbd с шагом 2 мм на Украине?
<JohnDoe_71Rus> in the shop
<JohnDoe_71Rus> on ebay
<endy93> нее это дорого с доставкой
<JohnDoe_71Rus> у нас в 200км от москвы дешевле заказать чем в единственном магазине где есть по конской цене брать
<endy93> кто вообще придумал ставить туда pls с шагом 2 2.54

<wickwire> Hi guys, I've been reading the forum and googlegroups but couldn't find a definitive answer:
<wickwire> is either one of cubieboard A10 or cubieboard A20 capable of operating from a LiPo battery?
<wickwire> even if installing some additional component?
<wickwire> I've found some battery charger chips which I could install
<wickwire> but next to charging a LiPo, I'd just like to know if cubieboard has the ability to commute between regular power or battery
<wickwire> like cubietruck does
<wickwire> and if so, which add-on circuit I should get for it
<wickwire> I've seen these, for starters, but are unsure if they may be used for powering cubie, after charging:

<th__> why don't you just get an external battery bank and use that?
nesthib has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<wickwire> well I would like to have some control over the battery
<wickwire> not use it when on external power,
<wickwire> get the battery charge status
<wickwire> or remaining charge
<wickwire> basically, I was just trying to figure out what could be done to a cubieboard2 to get it to cubietruck level
ricardocrudo has joined #cubieboard
<wickwire> considering that cubieboard is smaller than cubietruck
<wickwire> and even with some sort of add-on circuit board, take up less space
<wickwire> and be a cheaper solution, for the battery part - but with some control
<th__> well you could hack the battery pack and ready battery voltage to get estimate on remaining power
<th__> but if you need an adc..
<wickwire> ok, but for the power commute issue, cubieboard would be able to handle that?
<wickwire> truck does it just fine,
<wickwire> if the battery is attached and charged and if the external power is out, the battery kicks in
<wickwire> and if the power comes back on, the battery goes back to charging
<wickwire> plus getting the battery charge levels
<th__> I would just keep the batterpack on external power feeding the cubieboard so when power cuts out, the battery will take over
<wickwire> hmm ok, makes sense
<th__> but batteries do not like to be at 100% charge. they'll die fast
<rm> afaik not true at least with Li Ion...
<th__> very true for LiIon
<wickwire> this all began when I decided to build - yet another on of those - rc vehicles, controlled over wifi
<th__> keep it at 4.2V and it'll die fast
<wickwire> I scrounged some stuff around
<wickwire> found an arduino and a zumo kit, which are both powered by 4 AA batteries
<wickwire> then I thought it would be nice to have wifi and a webcam to remotely control the car
<th__> your cubie just uses a bit more power than an arduino so 4x AA won't last long
<wickwire> but wifi shields are expensive on the arduino, and no idea about the webcam - and with a few cubieboards just lying around,
<wickwire> I thought about hooking up a cubie to the car setup and control it
<wickwire> but for that, batteries were needed on the cubie
<wickwire> so I got the cubietruck first, and batteries are working
<wickwire> I found an old 2200mAh battery
<wickwire> soldered the connector and hooked it up to cubietruck
<wickwire> and got about 3h of running time with cubietruck on cpu idle and ethernet cable
<wickwire> even if I only get like 30min of total running time, with wifi on and a streaming webcam, that would be more than enough
<wickwire> but then cubietruck is a bit... big
<wickwire> so I thought about hooking up a cubieboard (either 1 or 2, I have both)
<wickwire> which is smaller
ricardocrudo has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<th__> well the quick & easy way would just to use a USB battery pack
<wickwire> and if possible, use the nimh battery to it
<th__> do you want to use nimh batteries instead of li-ion?
<wickwire> I wasn't actually being picky with the type of battery,
<th__> if you dont care about battery management, you could just use something like this http://www.dx.com/p/usb-dc-0-9-5v-to-dc-5v-voltage-step-up-boost-module-blue-288273
<wickwire> I was actually just using what I had around
<wickwire> I just used the battery I had, soldered a couple of wires and connected it to the LiPo connector on cubietruck
<th__> or if you have a separate cutoff when the voltage drops too low
<wickwire> I think I'll try the setup with the truck and the nimh battery I have now, see if it is any good
<wickwire> I'm not sure how long the battery will last on the truck,
<wickwire> or if the webcam wireless streaming will be decent
<th__> put a small voltage readout in the cameras view (:
<wickwire> I think I'll try to evaluate all that first

<kieppie> hi guys & gals
<kieppie> ok chaps - lets' try this again.
<kieppie> got 2x CB2's I want to set up
<kieppie> (btw - anyone online?)
<wickwire> hi
<kieppie> hi wickwire
<wickwire> th__ thanks for the help, I will keep at it, wish me luck
<wickwire> my ultimate goal would be to have races going on in the backyard!
<wickwire> :D
<th__> good luck (:
<wickwire> a nice obstable course for the cars
<wickwire> obstacle
<kieppie> I've loaded the berryboot image (beta6 IIRC - http://hivelocity.dl.sourceforge.net/project/berryboot/berryboot-cubieboard-beta6.zip) on a mSD & trying to boot up, but nothing comes of it
<kieppie> hi th__:
<th__> how did you install it?
<th__> (btw it's 2.41am here so dozing off soon)
<wickwire> does any of them - or both - boot the android from NAND, if you still have it there?
<kieppie> nothing is installing - can't get the SD to boot
<kieppie> boots off built-in NAND flash to shipped cubian
<wickwire> have you tried cubian from sd?
<th__> you need to install/write the image to the SD card with dd (in linux or other unix-like) or use something like win32diskimager for windows
<wickwire> instead of berryboot?
<wickwire> dd bs=1M if=<cubian_img> of=<path_to_your_sdcard>;sync
<kieppie> I'll give that a shot next - was hoping to use berryboot/NOOB to allow me to pick & choose
<wickwire> something like this should work on *nix
<kieppie> yea - did that with the above berryboot img
<th__> remember to write it to the device, not partition
<wickwire> or like th__ was saying for windows
<kieppie> chreck
<kieppie> also checked that boot flag is set
<th__> wen't roughly by these steps? http://linux-sunxi.org/Cubieboard/FirstSteps
<wickwire> I actually don't have boot flags set on my sd cards
<kieppie> want to have something as close to a debian/ubuntu on device
<wickwire> use cubian
<wickwire> format the card
<wickwire> apply the image
<wickwire> should work
<kieppie> yea - went through that
<kieppie> but will try cubian rather than berryboot next
<wickwire> ssh is enabled by default, on port 36000 - user and pass is "cubie"
<kieppie> I believe that it's also not possible to load the installers on straight-up USB - has to be SD
<wickwire> yes, SD
<kieppie> FYI - looks like the cubian images may need to find a new home - ubuntu one is going ofline soon
<wickwire> th__ I think the battery I used is li-ion after all
<wickwire> I took it out of an HTC tattoo
<kieppie> what distro of ubuntu is build for CB2? surely not 14.04
<wickwire> I'm unsure
<wickwire> cubian is debian based
<wickwire> and there there's a few alternatives based on linaro ubuntu
<wickwire> I made my own images with linaro saucy server
<wickwire> which is based on 13.10
<wickwire> hmm nope, saucy seems to be 14.04 actually
