<Willox> Ooh, chrome's console has been updated
<vil> in stable or in beta/dev?
<Willox> I'm in stable
<Willox> Just got a new scrollbar the other day too
<Willox> Like my chromebook's
<vil> I have an update waiting, should probably do something about that
<Willox> I think scrolling with mouse-3 is smoother
<vil> which OS are you on?
<Willox> The issue is whenever I'm at college on a computer I just mouse-3 scroll constantly on IE and it lags
<Willox> I'm on Win 7
<vil> oh k
<vil> I'd be mad if they fucked with scrollbars on os x
<Willox> Windows scrollbars look pretty bad
<vil> yes
<Willox> Windows 8 did an alright job with them
<alexgordon> firefox's web inspector is ridiculously awful
<alexgordon> firebug used to be good!
<Willox> I've never used firebug, but I know Chrome's console is meant to be as good/better
<vil> s/firefox
<vil> oops
<vigs> "firebug" lol
<purr> lol
<vil> fuck it, too lazy to finish that joke
<alexgordon> but lol
<vigs> s/firefox/vil is a big poopyhead
<Willox> You can use Chrome's console for debugging node.js apps, which is pretty cool
<Willox> More than Chrome actually

<devyn> please Willox, you must help!
<devyn> the fate of the human race depends on it!
<Willox> o no
<Willox> I better go tell everybody to fix it
<Willox> It's 7 AM
<devyn> you're a liar. it's 10:42 PM. time zones don't exist.
<Willox> We have a slight difference
<Willox> I must be tired because I keep having bugs where I am not returning things and it's taking me 10 minutes to fix
<devyn> heh I know the feeling
<devyn> it's like "come on, this shouldn't take nearly this long, wtf brain

<Willox> At one point I was struggling so much a memory address called me BAD

<yorick> omg the climbing ne
<yorick> one*
<whitequark> or the DRIVER of the fucking car exiting the seat to climb on top of it
<whitequark> I don't even
<yorick> if you have cruise control with automatic braking and line-following that's a bit more acceptable but still fucking stupid
<yorickpeterse> http://imgur.com/4vYvb5w hahaha
<whitequark> look at that car. its engine control block is, literally, a set of relays.
<whitequark> about two dozen.
<whitequark> the turn signals are controlled by a relay with a bimetallic plate inside to implement a delay.
<yorick> yeah
<yorickpeterse> http://i.imgur.com/fNNm9vr.gif haha
<whitequark> the last one is fake afaik
<yorick> maybe he has someone else steering from the passenger seat
<whitequark> yorick: chances that no, he's just dumb and/or DUI
<yorick> yorickpeterse: yeah that one's fake, the even left in the watermark
<yorickpeterse> still it's pretty funny
<whitequark> there's probably some homemade device to lock the steering wheel
<whitequark> but that's about it
<yorickpeterse> .nl is so boring compared to .ru
<whitequark> go live to RU then!
<yorickpeterse> fuck no
<yorickpeterse> I don't want to die
<whitequark> well, exactly
<whitequark> although, my life is quite boring
<yorickpeterse> clearly you need to get a car and a dash cam
<whitequark> you're assuming I want it to be exciting.
<yorickpeterse> well, biking in Amsterdam is pretty close to driving in Russia I suppose

<whitequark> I like to play games too, so far it's either on steam@linux or runs with $ wine game.exe
<whitequark> surely YMMV.
<joelteon> I'm think I'm some kind of idiot, because I never got wine to work
<whitequark> well, at worst it requires some winetricks invocations
<whitequark> you could either figure out that yourself by looking at errors or go to appdb.winehq.org
<whitequark> hrmpf, by the way
<whitequark> elliottcable: I suppose I could teach you some embeddedness or something
<whitequark> hrmmm, kill la kill actually got much better
<whitequark> I mean, it's still teenagey fanservicey series, but 13th episode actually got me wondering about the plot, which is nice

<devyn> joelteon: WINE is pretty damn good for what it is
<devyn> that's a hard thing to do
<devyn> it works pretty well
<devyn> oh you never got it to work, hmm
<devyn> on OS X? because lots of things are tough to get running on OS X for whatever reason
<joelteon> no on arch
<devyn> oh, it's always worked for me on Linux
<devyn> what were you trying to run it with?
<joelteon> hmmm
<joelteon> super meat boy
<devyn> http://appdb.winehq.org/ is your friend
<devyn> appdb says the latest Steam version works perfectly
<devyn> but that it didn't used to
<joelteon> yeah, figured
<joelteon> the mac port of super meat boy is a disaster
<Willox> no XInput
<joelteon> it's the official port
<joelteon> and it crashes a lot
<joelteon> and the performance is abysmal
<Willox> But they wouldn't be able to use Xinput would they?
<joelteon> i'm thinking of building a machine solely for gaming on windows
<devyn> Willox: what do you mean
<joelteon> but i never game, so it's gonna be a super low end piece of shit
<joelteon> optimized for flash games
<joelteon> haxball and super meat boy
<Willox> For controllers, SMB (windows) uses Xinput
<Willox> Controllers are pretty neccesary for super meat boy
<joelteon> well I don't use a controller
<joelteon> but the framerate is shit
<Willox> Didn't they make it in flash or something? Ir was that only the original
<devyn> Willox: some games have controller support on OS X, so I'd imagine there's a way
<joelteon> well the steam version isn't flash
<joelteon> I don't think
<joelteon> pretty sure it's c++
<joelteon> everything is c++
<devyn> well
<devyn> SDL
<devyn> probably
<joelteon> right
<Willox> Some games on Steam use Lua (Still sort of C/C++ I guess)
<joelteon> lua is awesome
<Willox> yes
<devyn> Willox: well yes, many games use an embedded scripting language over the engine because no one wants to write all of their creative scripting stuff in C++
<devyn> but generally that's just for NPC and monster scripting and stuff
<Willox> Some games on steam use Love
<Willox> Or one at least
<devyn> I've used LOVE before but I'd imagine that'd be a nightmare to deploy over Steam
<devyn> maybe not
<devyn> idk
<Willox> Apparently not
<Willox> I wouldn't be surprised if they just modified it to run their script only or something
<Willox> I'm sure there is oneIt might just be on greenlight
<devyn> well yeah IIRC you can just concatenate your archive to the executable
<devyn> not that you'd want to
<devyn> for multi-platform reasons
<devyn> so you'd just leave that separate
<Willox> You could have a automated process to just do that for every OS I guess
<Willox> Not much extra work
<devyn> you wouldn't want to
<devyn> that would be stupidly redundant
<devyn> and slower
<Willox> I don't know how it works with chucking your code in the binary
<devyn> it's not just code; it's all image resources and stuff too
<Willox> Oh I can see that being an issue
<devyn> but there's not even any reason to duplicate code; it's the same stuff that runs on every platform
<devyn> Steam gives you a directory to put everything in anyway, so it's not like you have to keep to one file
<devyn> and who cares if the LOVE engine you bundled can run other LOVE stuff
<devyn> lol
<purr> lol
<Willox> I just mean so it can run without arguments, although you can chuck them in when deploying games anyway
<devyn> yeah that doesn't matter. many Steam games run with arguments
<Willox> I'm not seeing any cons of games using Love on steam other than the fact that it is Love
<devyn> well, game devs love C++ because it provides fairly modern abstractions while still allowing total control over memory management
<devyn> garbage collection is still generally more disruptive than desired
<Willox> I'm thinking specifically Love + Steam, rather than Love vs anything else
<devyn> yes that's fine
<Willox> Just that you said it could be a nightmare
<devyn> yeah, I did, but I didn't really think about it that hard :p
<Willox> that's alright :D
<devyn> should be fine
<devyn> I nearly built an MMORPG in LOVE once but at the time it had next-to-zero networking support
<devyn> so I abandoned it
<Willox> By nearly I guess you mean almost started rather than almost finished
<devyn> it ran really well though; I easily got 60 FPS on an old computer with some minor hacks
<devyn> more like got half way through developing the engine
<devyn> so not "almost started"
<Willox> aw :(
<devyn> a very old computer though. AMD Sempron 3000+ and a Radeon 9250
<devyn> single core 32-bit
<devyn> and graphics card was PCI
<Willox> I'm guessing that it must've been quite simple in terms of what was rendered
<devyn> fairly high quality bitmaps, but no shading or anything really, so yeah
<devyn> I did have full parallax background layers
<devyn> which I chunked into several smaller images because it ran better on my graphics card that way
<devyn> actually I think my card wouldn't support non power of two textures in OpenGL
<devyn> which is why I did that
<devyn> and just padding the entire image was still kinda slow
<devyn> it could draw lots of smaller textures much better than one large one
<Willox> I know there are flash games on steam as well
<Willox> Windosill is great
<devyn> nuck: ever hear of Humbert Humbert?
<nuck> hm?
<devyn> band
<nuck> Doesn't sound familiar
<devyn> pretty good stuff. folk, like Shugo Tokumaru and Tenniscoats
<devyn> female vocalist
<devyn> kind of celtic
