<eddyb> aww, I was on some random Romanian "electronics projects" website (ardunio & friends, robotics, 3D printers, etc.), for an unrelated reason, and I started browsing their misc products, and: https://www.optimusdigital.ro/ro/altele/5720-testclip-cu-fir-mama-10p-rou.html
<eddyb> only 4€, but it's out of stock :(
<eddyb> (they do have individual clips, but they look like they require soldering, which probably means I would have to waste a bunch of time getting individual pin headers onto each of them or something)
<eddyb> oh lmao, out of the 3 colors, yellow is in stock https://www.optimusdigital.ro/ro/altele/5729-testclip-cu-fir-mama-10p-galben.html

<d1b2> <Hardkrash> @Attie @electronic_eel I tend to prefer the internal tooth lock washers e.g. https://www.mcmaster.com/93925A416 As the locking elements are contained inside of the screw head and affect a smaller area.
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> if you want to really protect the PCB then a Copper washer soldered to the mounting hole pad is the best protection, but that gets up in the complexity that is typically not warranted. i.e. threaded screw bosses and standoffs. Some times the anodization shop can use one of the mounting holes as the mount for the hanger and it will block the anodization from sticking. They also typically have plugs that can be placed in the holes that will prevent
<d1b2> plating as well.
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> Some conductive fabric/mesh can be used as a washer and it can break through the thin aluminum oxide layer, but not anodization. https://www.laird.com/products/electromagnetic-interference-emi-shielding/wire-mesh-knitted-conductive-gaskets/electroground-washer/89xx-xxxx-44
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> For the standoffs i'm talking about, here are some that are threaded. https://www.adafruit.com/product/4206
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> Others with clearance holes are available.
<d1b2> <theorbtwo> I should think if you want to not have anodizing on a threaded bit, you'd give it to the anodization shop with a screw threaded into it, no?
<d1b2> <theorbtwo> Ah. Short answer, probably not: https://metalfinishingsltd.co.uk/articles/non-aluminium-inserts-and-anodising/ -- steel screws won't do what you want, as they would be converted to rust. You want hdpe, polyprop, cpvc, or ptfe screws.
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> yea, didn't know about the rusting in place, but little rubber plugs are typical, as easier to insert and remove.
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> Yikes, this is a huge variation of designs. https://viadon.com/products/caps-plugs-and-corks

<eddyb> I recall something about serial numbers and an authentication chip, to be able to validate a certain manufacturer/production run, so if that's still a thing, presumably you'd have two levels of third party devices (and support for them, presumably?)

<bvernoux> Just one word about comparison with HydraBus the price is not 80euros but 69euros (Amazon)
<bvernoux> also HydraBus does support CLI and API (pyHydraBus see https://pypi.org/project/pyHydrabus) and support also parallel (Sump with 16bits)
<d1b2> <uep> hey, these look cool and useful to keep in mind. I'm a big fan of using rivnuts for mounting to sheetmetal caases
<bvernoux> it will have been interesting to add number of protocol supported for each platform too

<eddyb> okay, order sent, found a bunch of random useful things on that website, but the main thing for the glasgow are those grabbers. hopefully they'll be good enough to get me started
_whitelogger has joined #glasgow
<bvernoux> eddyb, good grabber are expensive
<bvernoux> EZHook are good for the price

<bvernoux> compared to that crap sold on Aliexpress ...
<bvernoux> you cannot grab anything with ultra cheap chinese grabber
<bvernoux> are very good for the price
<eddyb> shrug these were $5 for 10, and is local, so I'll find out what they're like in less than a month https://www.optimusdigital.ro/ro/altele/5729-testclip-cu-fir-mama-10p-galben.html

<d1b2> <HardWall> Hah, @eddyb nice to see someone from Romania here. I have some similar testclips(just tesclips) I bought from AliExpress but they're... not so great.
<d1b2> <HardWall> I have also some tesclips that came with a DSLogic logic analyzer and those are much nicer and find myself reaching for them much more often.
<d1b2> <HardWall> Not sure if they are ezhook or what, and don't have them on hand, but nice, nontheless.
<d1b2> <HardWall> Let us know how they turn out, I might get a set as well, to feed my HW fetish.
<d1b2> <HardWall> Regarding test probes, i keep wanting to build this thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3615910 - supposedly, it works quite well.
<eddyb> heh, that looks like a DIY alternative to https://sensepeek.com/pcbite_20

<d1b2> <Sid> I have one of those, printed by the designer since I don't have a 3D printer. It works well, takes some practice to get set up to probe a PCB, but is stable once that is done.
<kmc> neat
<kmc> I'm getting a 3D printer in Feb, maybe I'll make one
<whitequark> eddyb: we got rid of that authentication chip
