(I'm actually kinda curious as well :v) If I plug in my back-up battery (UPS) into itself, will it run out of battery on it's own? I mean, I guess technically it will after a long long time...hmm
<RobertArctor>
not that I know of, there doesn't seem to be any info about development boards
<RobertArctor>
except for the examples shown in their videos.... the board with 16 synaps chips on it....
<customminer>
Damn
<RobertArctor>
neurosynaptic FPGA-like chips like this will be able to exceed FPGA or ASIC processing speeds while being more flexible than a regular FPGA. not to mention more massively parallel connected, the 4096 individual 256-neuron cores.
<RobertArctor>
crazy bleeding edge stuff
<RobertArctor>
super power efficient... ~80mW tdp, could run 'full bore' on a cellphone battery for a week
<RobertArctor>
this type of hardware (if neurosynaptic chips like this become commercially available / common in the near future) could be very important for the ongoing development of Gridcoin

I'm wondering whether they would allow Gridcoin foundation or BOINC to acquire some of the hardware to test run on BOINC. Might be easier for the 'foundation' as a whole to do that than for an individual researcher. What do you think customminer?
<customminer>
Doubt it, the gridcoin 'foundation' isn't a registered 'foundation'.
<RobertArctor>
I mean, then there's Watson...... I don't suppose someone has thought to run BOINC projects on it? or maybe IBM has some hardware somewhere that is running BOINC projects?

curly-brace there is a video series where the creators talk about it, and their ways of converting images in the example to a sparse pulse code format
<curly-brace>
RobertArctor, yes. but neuron is something like logical cell. outputs something depending on the combination of inputs. its not suitable to compute numbers, but very good to learn to recognize images
<curly-brace>
normal cpu core contains billions of such logical units
<curly-brace>
not very 'such' tho
<curly-brace>
simplier..
<RobertArctor>
and there are no BOINC projects currently that could use image recognition tools whether in software or hardware or both? or projects whose work involves image processing or GPUs?

you might max out the board with 4 gpus. make sure
<RoyalPhay>
So my PSU is 1220w. The Molex/Sata part of it distributes the least amount of power OUT OF the 1220w. I think 850 watts is dedicated to the 6-pin cables
<RoyalPhay>
so the one that comes in Near second is the mobo power cable which also powers part of the gpu
<Peppernrino>
if you're doing cards that run 6 pin as well, you're probably going to need another psu
<RoyalPhay>
utilizing energy from the mobo will be the most effective
<RoyalPhay>
nope! I checked :)
<RoyalPhay>
This PSU is rediculous >_>
<Peppernrino>
8x6pin?
<RoyalPhay>
Hmm. so... this.. urg, tired lol
<RoyalPhay>
This PSU is different than most where it seemingly "encourages" 6-pin splitters
dante14k has joined #gridcoin

I tested this recently by (lo and behold) trying 2 splitters out
<RoyalPhay>
basically the problem with my psu is it doesn't have enough cables

atm at least

i don't know that any psu discourages splitters...

yeah
<Peppernrino>
if you recognize the brand you should be ok.

I mean, my splitters are fine lol
<Peppernrino>
saving 40 cents on a $4 cable just isn't worth it

So, I started with Gridcoin about a week ago. I have well over 10k GRC in my wallet and still haven't gotten my first stake (well, I did a few days ago, but it was on an orphaned chain, so that's gone now.) Is it actually possible to stake a block in a reasonable amount of time? If I've read correctly on how this all works, I won't actually get any research earnings until that first stake,
<Ramokk>
regardless of how much BOINC RAC I have. "list explainmagntiude" shows a total RAC over 1,000,000 and a Total Mag of over 100. So I'm pretty sure I set everything up correctly, but won't actually earn anything until I get "lucky". The client estimate "a few hours", but it's been days.
<ltkeklulz>
The estimation is always wrong
<ltkeklulz>
I'm not sure what the issue is though
<Ramokk>
By what order of magntiude, though?
<Ramokk>
Like should it take another few days, or will it take months/years?
<ltkeklulz>
With your stats, you should expect to get a payout about once a day
sbits has joined #gridcoin
<Ramokk>
But doesn't it not take magnitude into account until the first proof-of-stake block?
<Ramokk>
That's why I obtained 10k as a temporary starter balance
<ltkeklulz>
It takes it into account, but you do need some to get started
<ltkeklulz>
I was getting multiple a day with 1k and 175 mag

<Ramokk>
Doesn't it not start counting until you stake the first time?
<ltkeklulz>
I'm not sure. I staked almost instantly when I first set it up
<ltkeklulz>
But that isn't typical
<Ramokk>
The docs say that it doesn't look back to the beacon but to the first stake
<Ramokk>
