<pointfree> o/ pie_ !
<pie_> random find scrolling through things tagged semiconductor on githb https://github.com/exa-mining/formal-verification-vlsi
<pie_> (its just a list of stuff)
<john_cephalopoda> Nice. We should have a page for material collection on the wiki
<john_cephalopoda> I'll set one up after dinner.
<Noxz> stabalizer legs came up in an off-topic chat (people working for semiconductor places) .. looked into the newport ones some
<Noxz> will absolutely need to figure out something for my SEM
<Noxz> also, one week of watchmaking school completed!
<Noxz> super tired already, trying to get into the rhythm
<john_cephalopoda> Noxz: Stabilizer legs for what exactly?
<Noxz> SEM
<Noxz> lots of road vibrations
<Noxz> live kinda near/under a bridge
<pie_> oh cool @ watch school :p
<Noxz> :D
<Noxz> 2 projects completed already
<Noxz> some parallelagram wood block thing, and our name plate
<pie_> meh, if a deer walked by that would be too much vibration :PP
<Noxz> amazing we get to work with tools on the first day
<Noxz> lol @ deer
<pie_> you do? xD
<Noxz> yeah, other schools are like 6mo of theory and calculations and such
<Noxz> but we start immedietly
<Noxz> exactly what I wanted
<pie_> are you overqualified :P
<Noxz> there's only 5 first year students.. only one guy is really over most of the others
<Noxz> but, not sure how much watch mfging he has done, I dont think much
<Noxz> just more so practice in other trades
<Noxz> knife making, scroll work, etc
<Noxz> one guy straight out of high school, like 19 years old
<Noxz> that other guy has a daughter older than that :P
<Noxz> oh, also that 19yo knows about sci-hub
<Noxz> which was super cool
<pie_> hehe
<pie_> we arrrr pirates
<pie_> (well im a couple years over 19 now..._
<Noxz> a decade and some change for me
<pie_> random possibly interesting social science project?: prevalence of scihub knowledge by age
<Noxz> anywho, now that I have my first weekend off, and not doing house work.. trying to work on the biodiesel engine/flowbench/ECU
<pie_> i need to finish cleaning my room one of these days so i can get to my electronics table and maybe actually play with some of that stuff..
<pointfree> It would be interesting to know how they compare to stabilizer legs.
<Noxz> I have some neoprene sheets I was going to experiment w/.. for thickness and durometer for what sound it blocks..
<Noxz> I wouldnt have much confidence in the life span of those mats
<Noxz> good for the first week, then the machine legs would settle in
<Noxz> pushing all the air out
<Noxz> not sure if true or not, but likely?
<pointfree> good point on the lifespan.
<pointfree> "SorbothaneĀ®absorbs shock efficiently for millions of cycles." https://www.sorbothane.com/Data/Sites/31/pdfs/product-guides/Sorbothane-SPG.pdf ...that's all I found so far on that.
<Noxz> it looks ridiculously low budget though - not for scientific equipment, more for audio and machine shops
<qu1j0t3> constant weight is a very different matter than transient shocks?
<john_cephalopoda> Noxz: At the student science lab at my old school, they have an atomic force microscope. Because even footsteps would bring problems, they mounted a hook on the ceiling, hung heavy stones from there and put the microscope into a box on top of the stones.
<Noxz> I have seen springs used as well, from the cieling
<john_cephalopoda> Maybe a combination of springs and weight could weaken the connection to the outer world and reduce the effects of an impulse.
