<nmz787>
john_cephalopoda: I wouldn't mind writing up something
<Noxz>
FIB = ?
<Noxz>
focused ion beam?
<nmz787>
john_cephalopoda: do you think it should be individual sections/pages? Like one for spin-coating, one for focusing the FIB, one for developing the PMMA? Or everything on one page, with sections for each?
<nmz787>
Noxz: yes
<Noxz>
what is the ion source?
<nmz787>
gallium
<Noxz>
oh, neat
<Noxz>
"In a gallium LMIS, gallium metal is placed in contact with a tungsten needle, and heated gallium wets the tungsten and flows to the tip of the needle, where the opposing forces of surface tension and electric field form the gallium into a cusp shaped tip called a Taylor cone. The tip radius of this cone is extremely small (~2 nm). The huge electric field at this small tip (greater than 1 x 108 volts per centimeter) causes ionization and field emission of the gal
<Noxz>
lium atoms."
<Noxz>
neat neat
<nmz787>
yeah it's a field-emission source
<nmz787>
basically a small coil/spring looking wire that is wetted with gallium, then a current is passed through the coil/spring to heat up the metal and help it flow/melt a bit... then there's another potential between the coil and the sample stage which extracts ions downward through the optics
<nmz787>
apparently the only thing you really need to worry about is isotopic purity, because multiple atomic-weights will cause focus blurring (ghosting I've heard)
<Noxz>
very neat though, I didnt know the physics behind it.. as I was interested moreso into electron beam w/ PMMA
<nmz787>
apparently the exposure mechanism is the same with either beamsource
<nmz787>
just breaking the polymers into smaller ones
<nmz787>
I've said this before, but if anyone has moved since, if you're in/around the Portland OR area, and have a decent amount of free time, I would enjoy coming to tool and get my (personal) SEM and FIB up and running
<nmz787>
I also have a spin-coater too, the same one I used at the part-time job where I did this recent work
<nmz787>
I only lack proper fume hood/ventilation
<Noxz>
I'm in Seattle..
<nmz787>
ah, yeah I seem to recall that
<Noxz>
I havent setup my fumehood (for chem stuff) since moving
<Noxz>
but I am here for ~2 more years
<Noxz>
I basically was offered a job back home in Ohio upon graduating
<nmz787>
I was spin-coating some ebay photoresist a year or two ago and had to stop because I was getting high
<Noxz>
have a meeting w/ the VP of Brand on tuesday regarding that
<Noxz>
lol
<nmz787>
nice
<nmz787>
I am from western PA
<Noxz>
chlorobenzene is the solvent used w/ PMMA
<nmz787>
can't imagine moving back there after getting addicted to being out here with all the hiking and ecosystems
<Noxz>
do you know of Lititz, PA? that's where the other big watchmaking school is
<nmz787>
Noxz: the PMMA I used was dissolved in anisole
<nmz787>
"Our PMMA A resists are formulated in anisole, while our PMMA C resists are formulated in chlorobenzene. We introduced the PMMA A resists in response to the environmental concerns expressed by many of our customers with PMMA resists formulated in chlorobenzene solvent."
<nmz787>
versus this crazy 5 or 6 chem recipe with multiple toxics
<Noxz>
hey, if it isnt dangerous, I dont want to do it :P
<nmz787>
I get enough of that driving around here
<nmz787>
lol
<Noxz>
working on getting my [bio]diesel engine going.. still bicycking to school
<Noxz>
just picked up decent rain gear
<Noxz>
right now the engine is my #1 personal project, beyond watchmaking stuffs
<nmz787>
the old recipe the company had on hand featured things like MIBK and ethoxyethanol, and a few others
<nmz787>
nice
<nmz787>
I've got a Jetta TDI that I've tooled on a bit
<Noxz>
ethoxyethanol isnt crazy.. I think that is what is in the Purple Power cleaner
<Noxz>
hrm, maybe not that one..
<Noxz>
Simple Green is similar enough
<Noxz>
C9-11 Alcohols Ethoxylated
<Noxz>
so your personal SEM/FIB arent running just yet?
<nmz787>
nah, the SEM needs some electronics debugging, and the FIB was sold in working and calibrated condition 1.5 years ago but I never uncrated it after getting it home
<nmz787>
been changing the dehumidifier religiously
<pie_>
though tbf discord dint exist when i started ircing
<Noxz>
yeah, well, you go to where the content is or you get lost, right?
<pie_>
eh.
<pie_>
i guess
<Noxz>
not get lost, but miss out unless it is linked elsewhere
<Noxz>
but, if you dont know your are missing out (or rather, you dont know what you are missing out on) then meh
<Noxz>
sync is on there :P
<pie_>
yea
<pie_>
smh :P
<nmz787>
is there an IRC-discord bridge bot?
<nmz787>
I like IRC too compared to the web-based stuff
<nmz787>
mostly just because I want things centralized
<nmz787>
is discord a website?
<nmz787>
oh, maybe I'm thinking slack
<nmz787>
either way, I wish there were some bridges
<Noxz>
bots sorta exist, one server I am on uses one
<john_cephalopoda>
nmz787: Hmm, you could make a single site, describing your specific process, or make a site with a basic description and sub-sites describing the general idea and basics of the used techniques. Both work.
<Noxz>
bridge bot, that is
<john_cephalopoda>
nmz787: What's your github handle?
<Noxz>
nmz787, I use discord as a website, I dont use it on my phone at all
<Noxz>
but I know they have apps
<nmz787>
john_cephalopoda: nmz787
<Noxz>
I dont use irc on my phone [anymore] netiher
<nmz787>
yeah I used to use an IRC phone client, but usually I just SSH to a server that's always on so I can have backlogs and such
<nmz787>
and on the phone that is just annoying
<john_cephalopoda>
nmz787: Ok, invite sent.
<john_cephalopoda>
Noxz: Have you got access to the homecmos wiki yet?
<Noxz>
I have ventured onto there I think, but I havent done anything to warrant adding info
<pie_>
nmz787, i made one at some point but it was actually just a thng hacked into my friends hobby project so theres probably better things
<pie_>
also bitlbee is a thing but im not sure how good it is
<pie_>
im a bibliography fanatic, just start aggregating books and papers you like lol
