I personally wouldn't mind if the kodi devs combined TV and TV Shows. It's been years, and my spouse still doesn't understand the difference.
<Klojum>
o.O

recordings (TV) vs library (TV Shows)
<Klojum>
I know the difference, I just never imagined that people could mix them up somehow.
<mack->
some people don't care where a file is. They just either want to watch a TV Show or a Movie
<mack->
basic UI design principle, if you want people to choose between something Red, Blue, and Yellow, don't label things Rose, Red, Blue, Azure, and Sunshine.
<Klojum>
Well, Kodi does not have an AI for that yet.

<zhasha>
does anyone have any idea of what's causing an infinite loop whenever I put on something with ASS subtitles in it?
<Klojum>
An infinite loop of what?
<Klojum>
video? audio? subtitles only?
<TheTrash>
But a library is for books, and I don't record live TV, and what about torrents? :P
<TheTrash>
The whole media ecosystem is just confusing.
<TheTrash>
This will all be solved when linear television finally dies.

My parents recently got fiber from a relatively small provider, good thing is they use standard DVB-C with no encryption, but on the other hand.. they convert a DVB signal to fiber, then back to DVB-C, had lots of problems with artefacts at first, "signal strength" issues, all while internet worked perfectly fine (500MBit at that). So I was like... why DVB-C, Docsis and all those complicated BS protocols, just gimme a .m4u or
<TheTrash>
something.
<zhasha>
Klojum: it gets stuck at the busy animation and the load average exceeds 2 (dual core ht system)
<TheTrash>
Other cable providers here invested heavily in "cloud recording" and the likes, I was like.. that's a lot of trouble for a bunch of 65-year olds.
<TheTrash>
Meanwhile, lower-income families are going bankrupt because they have like $100 a month in streaming service subscriptions.
<TheTrash>
zhasha: you sure it's the ASS?
<zhasha>
TheTrash: it only seems to happen on files with ASS subtitles
<zhasha>
everything else plays fine, including files with other types of subtitles
<TheTrash>
Even if you start it without subtitles?
<Klojum>
"Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 @ 1.60GHz"... We're in prehistoric territory now :-)
<TheTrash>
Oh, that's your CPU? Hmmm
<TheTrash>
Still, ION board, should be able to do h264 just fine.
<Klojum>
zhasha: You could try at the LibreELEC forum, with your log file and a crash log if available.

INFO: CDVDSubtitlesLibass: Initializing ASS Renderer
<TheTrash>
Anyone else finding it a bit awkward how we're so casually discussing ASS issues? :P
<TheTrash>
I'll have you know my ass is rendering just fine!
<Klojum>
Personallt, I always use SRT subs, I find they are easier to edit.
<TheTrash>
I dunno how intensive ASS is for the CPU
<zhasha>
I don't know how I'd go about starting it without subtitles, so I haven't tried
<TheTrash>
Can maybe try the ASS font override, that might mean it will just use a system font instead of rendering something custom?
<zhasha>
Nothing crashes. It just turns the board into a shitty space heater until I kill kodi
<TheTrash>
Player > Language has a bunch of settings
<zhasha>
and the system is indeed ancient
<TheTrash>
Yeah, I suspect the weak excuse for a CPU (sorry :P) is just choking on having to render fonts without hw accel.
<zhasha>
It worked fine before updating to libreelec 9.0.1
<TheTrash>
Oh
<TheTrash>
Worth posting on the forums then, I guess. And maybe go through the changelog to see if there are changes in ASS.
<zhasha>
it's the font
<zhasha>
turning on ASS font override fixes it

<TheTrash>
Hm ok
<TheTrash>
Any chance you had that set previously?
<zhasha>
no it was rendering in all kinds of wonky fonts
<TheTrash>
Hmpf
<Klojum>
zhasha: You can report the bug at Kodi's github tracker page.

it's almost certainly a massive pain in the ass to build
