<ldevulder> I tried u-boot on khadas-vim2 board, so with a S912 SoC, using the khadas-vim configuration (simplified, without nothing!), I'm able to enter the u-boot shell but I need to disable call to 'enable_caches' function, which is not good I think :)
<ldevulder> of course I used DTS for khadas-vim2 from linux kernel
<ldevulder> it seems that cache is not configured as the same way as the S905X

<Xogium> hi folks
<Xogium> so minimal gui can work with odroid c2 since kernel 4.16 right ?
<Xogium> thing I'm wondering about still is do I still need vendor u-boot ?
<Xogium> I'm on mainline now :S
<ndufresne> do you need a display in u-boot ?
<Xogium> naaah just as long as I can run xorg and stuff I'm glad
<Xogium> have no screen connected even, since I don't even need it, being blind and all
<Xogium> but just want to run some gui apps like thunderbird and co
<Xogium> unless you can't make it yet believe there's a cable attached so it won't start xorg due to not having a monitor
<Xogium> long story short, my desktop died and all I got is my odroid
<Xogium> also if someone here could give me a direct link to the latest stable kernel I'd be very grateful
<Xogium> I can't get it with this damned text browser :(
<narmstrong> Xogium: i think X will start if there is no monitor
<narmstrong> Xogium: no idea with which resolution
<narmstrong> You can try to add « drm.edid_firmware=edid/1920x1080.bin video=HDMI-1-A:1920x1080D »
<narmstrong> It will simulate a tv and force the hdmi output
<narmstrong> To the kernel cmdline
<narmstrong> Hmm it’s HDMI-A-1
<Xogium> I will try that
<Xogium> narmstrong: what is that .bin file ?
<Xogium> I just hope it's not going to crash :p
<Xogium> because if it does I'm stuck, can't change the kernel cmdline
<Xogium> I mean, can't use uart at this point hehe
<narmstrong> Ho, can you try to run xorg without that before ?
<Xogium> yeah that's the plan :)
<narmstrong> You can configure xorg to use a dummy screen
<Xogium> have no uart due to my machine being dead and no machine other than the odroid itself that could fix the emmc
<Xogium> how do I do that ? :S
<Xogium> I'm a xorg newb :p all I know how to do is startx
<narmstrong> With xserver-xorg-video-dummy and by specificing dummy as driver for the display instead of modesetting
<Xogium> and really these web browsers in text should be accessible, ironically they aren't that much
<Xogium> in xorg.conf file ?
<narmstrong> Yep
<Xogium> kay I will try that, worst that could happen this way I guess is xorg crashing or refusing to start
<narmstrong> Simply backup the xorg.conf to rollback
<Xogium> indeed, far less risky :D
<Xogium> I managed to finally get that 4.17.6 kernel
<Xogium> wow heh, still building kernel after 1 hour and a half, media/tuners
<Xogium> I'm kinda used to kernel building in 6 minutes
<Xogium> :p

<ndufresne> do you build on the board or something ?
yann has joined #linux-amlogic
<Xogium> I do
<Xogium> like I said my other pc is dead
<Xogium> so all I got left is the odroid itself
sputnik__ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<lvrp16> XD i build a couple of kernels a day and it is already intense pain. i can't imagine it building on a board.

<Xogium> hehe
<Xogium> tty/serial now… Go go go
<Xogium> x)
<Xogium> desktop died in like 3 seconds
<Xogium> last thing I saw were all my fs remounted r/o
<Xogium> then now if I try to boot it up it beeps and beeps and beeps
<Xogium> 2 sort and 2 long, sometimes 2 short or 2 long and rarely a neverending beep
<Xogium> *2 short
<Xogium> so I'm guessing cpu or motherboard but what do I know

<Xogium> narmstrong: still here ?
<Xogium> I seem to notice the cbus subnode in /soc in odroid c2 was renamed to bus, is this correct ? I want to add the rtc in it
