<ukleinek> hello, I'd like to buy a tv box and consider the wetek air. This however is reported to have a locked bootloader. Do I have to care about that if I don't care about the android that this device is shipped with?

<kszaq> ukleinek: Locked bootloader may mean that you cannot boot anything but a signed Android kernel unless you connect UART and replace/chainload u-boot.
<narmstrong> ukleinek: I can't answer, never had it in my hands, you *should* still be able to chainload mainline u-boot, but can't be sure
<ukleinek> kszaq, narmstrong: Thanks. I will contact the vendor with my questions. That is also a good test that might help to decide if buying that device is a good idea.

<ukleinek> I wonder how I could (maybe) boot a vendor-locked device. I found a section in the S905X manual (though my targeted device has a 905D) which involves the hdmi i2c port. Is it documented somewhere in more detail what is necessary here? Is this the best option I have to boot custom code?
