<chewitt>
ukleinek: wetek have sub-zero interest in users running linux on the 'air' box
<chewitt>
their consumer strategy is now focussed on android-tv
<chewitt>
and dvb support in the kernel is never a straightforward topic
<chewitt>
usb tuner devices are normally a better investment as the drivers are used/developed/tested on a wide range of hardware
<chewitt>
and they're portable so as you change cheap client boxes over time they can be reused

Yeah, I read a bit in forums, and indeed wetek doesn't seem to be user and developer friendly (any more?)

oh a quest! wetek support replied: "Unfortunately, you will not be able to run other OS on the WeTek Air."
<narmstrong>
wow
<narmstrong>
if you look for DVB enabled board, Khadas has a DVB HAT for the VIM & VIM2
<narmstrong>
but still, no (clean) DVB drivers available upstream
* ukleinek
still has a dvb-stick in his cupboard that doesn't work out of the box, but there are patches that make it work that I still need to polish and upstream
<ukleinek>
narmstrong: dvb-c + nice box to make it suitable for the living room in the end
<ukleinek>
looks nice, compared to the wetek air it seems to miss only the remote controller and zigbee which I should get over
<ukleinek>
ah, the dvb hat only has dvb-s and dvb-t

uk
<chewitt>
ukleinek: to be fair on wetek, the whole consumer sales thing was about brand building and window dressing for the real business which is iptv middleware
<chewitt>
their real market was always Android oriented
<chewitt>
and compared to most of the shitbag far-east vendors their support has always been good

the only things they've ever really struggled with are more about the legacy/sbp codebase than their product
<chewitt>
the raspberry pi dvb-hat does dvb-t2 and has decent drivers
<chewitt>
stick it on a zero in a cupboard somewhere

narmstrong: that DVB hat would be interesting, if it had drivers, to use to write a TS interface driver

A guy forward ported the amlogic dvb ts drivers, but honestly it would need a complete rewrite
* ukleinek
still thinks that the wetek air is a nice hardware, but if it's unsure if I can use it the way I want, that's bad
<wens>
narmstrong: that bad?
<narmstrong>
wens: the dvb driver is one of the oldest, a pile of changes on top of a very old driver never reworked

mjourdan: congrats on getting permission to redistribute the vdec firmware :) that was the last big blocker for the vdec driver in mainline
