<brads> narmstrong: I'm testing on N2 with 5.7-rc / mpv / wayland / libmali and the vdec. I have some issues especially if I don't start with --fullscreen or I resize the window during play. With all IRQ threads on CPU0 and then userspace 2-5 works better again but still some issues to be worked through especially if the bitrate through the vdec is high.

<brads> The issues range from system freeze, artifacts and system stall (hdmi dropped out). I think this might have to so with the kernel timing system and how fast times can be requested (especially with busy system such as desktop / resizing windows or something else producing load).

<brads> Here is a pastebin of mpv (if I run it through strace less problems for whatever reason) - https://pastebin.com/1BJZfB4M
<brads> I was trying to get 5.4 patched with realtime patches some time ago which was successful in build but not performance. Seemed to be an issue managing IRQ's between both domains on the SOC. ie meson uart would deadlock the scheduler in PREEMPT_RT at times.
<brads> I would actually be interested in testing this patch on 5.4-rt to see if it solves my problem for realtime - https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?h=v5.7-rc4&id=0a66d6f90cf7d704c6a0f663f7058099eb8c97b0
<brads> I also wonder if the same underlying cause is what is causing me problems in 5.7-rc3 with the vdec, irq's and its buffers and trying to get a gig on the cpu without delay.
<brads> I wonder if clock_gettime gives skewed results depending on what domain it is run in

<narmstrong> brads: system stall ??? weird
<narmstrong> note ffmpeg support for the v4l2 m2m hw decoder is really bad

<etrig> ended up getting emmc to hopefully work around the sd card reset issue on odroid-c2, but still eager to help identify what might be going wrong

<narmstrong> etrig: what did you change ?
<etrig> narmstrong: I applied the patch from earlier but it didn't change the behavior
<etrig> narmstrong: I meant to get some scope traces but got sidetracked
